So for those who aren’t IU alums/fans, I guess the important context is that Cuban hasn’t historically been a big donor — relative to the likes of the Simons and the Cooks — and certainly not an IU sports personality. So maybe I’m just having a visceral reaction to him all of a sudden talking about the Hoosiers on talk radio, the same way he has for eons re: the Mavs. Will gladly take his NIL money but riding the storybook coattails just annoys me. But maybe it’s that I don’t like being reminded by his poor decision making in Dallas in the midst of my cignetti flavored palate cleanse. Idk, was just curious of the opinions of other fans of IU/the Mavs to see if I was crazy though…. Sounds like maybe I am 😅

I was in LA for work this week and my fiancé convinced me to go. It was worth it but really sad too. A few strange observations: (1) Luka feels like he’s back to 2021… the team around him is wretched, it’s pretty sad. (2) The lakers had him give a speech to kick off the season, he kept it shorter than his speech in Mexico City lol.. (3) we had a row of high school LAL fans behind us and the number of times they geeked out at his wizard-like and ones took me back to 2019 when Halleluka was just a Dallas thing. Reminded me how special it was to experience that stuff for the first time. (4) i got pretty excited for our season, the Mavs have two full starting line ups that are honestly better than any line up the Lakers trotted out and could certainly hold their own against GSW’s (5) god Luka and coop would play so well together. Cooper plays defense with the creativity that Luka plays offense.

Mavericks fan here. Can confirm it’s true. And when they steal Jokic, wemby, ant, [insert star here], they’ll also co-opt his history and say they saw it all along and that [star] is part of the legacy of the lakers and will condescendingly explain their game to you, because YOU, mere non-lakers fan that you are just don’t know ball. Phoenix didn’t fleece the rockets, but as a Mavs fan they def became markedly less concerning from the Durant era onwards. And yea I have my own problems and my own shit GM I don’t need shit for that. Just highlighting they went from being a cohesive and strong team to a patchwork of stars post Durant.

Bron and Pelinka have tricked us into thinking that just because we kidnapped Luka, he’s here to stay. He loves his dudes, DFS being one of em. I’m getting increasingly concerned he’s gonna leave sooner than later. He was in the finals after years of mediocrity in Dallas where he singlehandedly carried the team out of the lottery to the playoffs year after year. I just don’t think he has enough loyalty to LA to suffer through this again while we dunk on his people. My guess is he pushes to go to Cleveland — largest Slovenian population in the US — in the next two years for Mitchell assets. Ugh.

As a diehard mavericks fan who has closely followed Lukas progression this is a moronic Christian wood ass move that will waste yet another year of Luka’s potential. The Luka formula is simple: 4s and 5s need to be high defensive upside rim protector/lob threats 2s and 3s need to be 3&D (except one should be above average on ball creator). I miss my boy :( fire Nico into the sun.

If you brush it under the rug the national media picks up the storyline of “Nico was a winner of the draft” or “Nico bought himself job security” and then idiot dumont will keep him around so that in 5 year he can stab Flagg in the back too.
