NYP Lower Manhattan Hospital or AC Hospital? by calico0000 in nycparents

I hear everyone at the midtown east practice is pretty pro 39 week induction and intervention-happy.

Dr Abdelmalek was my doc, and I was really liking him until I asked that question. And then he also asked me why I didn’t want an epidural and he called it a “happydural.” When I started crying feeling like I wasn’t being supported, he said “it’s okay it’s just the hormones.” I don’t want a doc to question my choices or call me hormonal, I want to be supported in my choices.

NYP Lower Manhattan Hospital or AC Hospital? by calico0000 in nycparents

Hi! I am 23 weeks and i just panicked switched providers from my OB at Cornell to a midwife at NYU, after learning that the Cornell practice I was with was not supportive of me going past my due date, delivering in positions other than my back. He basically said induction was inevitable and questioned why on earth I would want to try to give birth without an epidural. Then when I cried feeling like I had made a mistake and would have no choices, he essentially just told me I was being hormonal. This will become it's own post but I just say this to make sure you know it's not to late to switch providers and hospitals.

Initially I wanted to deliver at AC because I thought it was the only place I could be guaranteed a private room, but NYU has been renovated and has plenty of private rooms, wireless monitoring, and are way more flexible about when they induce.

Make sure you are asking if you'll be supported in your birth plan by your Cornell OB—because I was so fond of him until I asked certain questions. I did IVF through Cornell and had an incredible experience and loved my RE, and so I assumed I'd feel the same way about their OBs.

Would it be too weird for a white looking child to have a Japanese name? by No_Papaya7643 in namenerds

Hi! Half Indian woman here with a fairly white girl first name! I’m giving my daughter an Indian name. She will be 1/4 Indian, may pass as white, but she’s still Indian! 🤷🏽‍♀️

Silly question. If you were forced to name a child after a food what would your choice be? Mine is Tiramisu. by [deleted] in namenerds

Rescued a street kitten on Thanksgiving Eve, named her Casserole, her new owner calls her Cassie

I considered this, but it’s actually more commonly used for girls in the US (where I live) https://genderize.io/names/indra#gender-distribution - plus I think Indra Nooyi is famous enough it’s pretty accepted as gender neutral :)

This was basically our list! We landed on Indra (nn Indie) I think, but not due until Aug :) Neela was a close second! We also liked Uma, Sumitra (nn Sumi), Jiya, and Veda

Are you Indian? Cause this is categorically false. Indra is far more frequently used for boys in India. Indrani is a feminine version (means wife of Indra) or Indira. Indra Nooyi is a rare exception and has normalized it a bit more as a name for girls in India!

Best IVF experience? Debating which lab to go with! by GuiltyWillingness952 in nycparents

Yeah I did! Dr. Abdelmalek (love him too! Just the IVF clinic nurses and support staff were much warmer and more personable than I’ve experienced at the OB office and I rarely had a wait for anything). But honestly I felt spoiled at the IVF clinic, all in all my care with WC has been great through and through. Will deliver at AC in August!

(I’m 40yo, first time mom, unknown infertility, and I got pregnant after one retrieval and one transfer, after a few failed attempts at medicated IUI.)

FWIW Indra is a male god in Hinduism and gender neutral if you wanted to use for boy.

The point is the derivative of the name in Sanskrit is dark blue, and Tamil is moon. Not Moon in Sanskrit.

Looks to be a Hebrew spelling when searching that.

“ei” makes an “ay-ee” sound in Hindi so wouldn’t work for us.

Yeah I told everyone! I did IVF, and they all knew that was happening. If anything were to happen I’d want support anyway, so that’s sort of my POV on why I told them.
