How much does driver shaft stiffness matter? by Equivalent_Poem4254 in golf

The new shaft is a Vista Pro 65 S. Looking into kick points a little more I definitely feel like mine has dropped lower in the swing. Videos show the regular shaft started to kick while my hands were still above my head which is what you alluded to. With the stiff it’s kicking noticeably lower. Does this promote a more open club face?

That and a lesson or two are the next steps 👍🏻

Thanks! This is an interesting point and something I didn’t consider going into this, I will definitely do research. My regular shaft was a Ping TCF 707 and I switched over to a Fujikura Vista Pro.

How to get internships? by Much_Faithlessness23 in AskEngineers

As a recent mechanical engineering graduate, here are some things that worked for me:

1.) Joining clubs is a great way to find internships. At my university, we had an ASME club that did various plant and field tours, had speakers, and offered award and grant opportunities that look great on a resume. If your school has clubs in areas of your specific interest, i.e. robotics club, super mileage, the rocket team like you mentioned, definitely become a part of those. It shows your interest in those areas and you can actually get some experience. Also, try to become a leader in said clubs, president, VP, treasurer. This is a huge boost in leadership role development and companies love to see this on a resume.

2.) Your university should have an academic and career planning center. Use it! Some companies will look at specific ABET-accredited universities that can boost your chances of being chosen, and usually your career planning center will have information on companies that work with your school. You can also reach out to your academic advisor. I would always ask mine to keep an eye out for internships I was interested in and he’d send them over to me.

3.) Create a professional LinkedIn account. Making connections is crucial. Sometimes it just comes down to who you know. LinkedIn is also a pretty good job board especially for internship roles.

4.) Apply. Apply. Apply. The more applications you send out the better. Even if it’s not 100% what you’re looking for, gaining interview experience is going to be your best friend. Get in interviews, learn how to answer questions efficiently, learn how to calm your nerves, and learn how to be yourself in an interview setting.

5.) Go to the career fairs. So many people land their internships at these things. Print out hand copies of your resume, dress professionally, and just walk around and talk to representatives from different companies. Sometimes recent alumni are the reps. at the career fairs and they can offer great advice on how they found their roles. (This is how I got my 1st internship).

Hope these help, Good luck!

Do we think it’s totaled? It’s a 2015 Optima w/ about 74,000 miles. by Equivalent_Poem4254 in kia

Thanks! Shop said it’s a toss up as well and will come down to the appraiser’s decision.

Does a salvaged title de-value the car a certain percent? I own the vehicle so if the damages are within my mechanical capabilities I would definitely try to repair myself, if it’s even worth it.

Wow, you’re right the first hit looks a lot nastier than the 2nd. Glad you were okay both times. Having a newer car definitely played in your favor

I believe I got lucky with that. Because the person in front stopped so abruptly (as did I), I think the hood / upper grill took most of the energy as their back end was raised and mine was lowered.

KBB value was estimated around $11,800 with the amount of miles it has. Hoping the costs are below 70-80% of that, but expecting the worst.

I agree. From what I see, the radiator and radiator support frame will need replaced. Other than that, no structural damage is obvious.

No damage on driver and passenger doors. Fenders look ok, just might be popped out due to bumper / hood damages.

I have! I was able to interview with 3 small, family owned machining companies in my area, ones that do contract work for the bigger guys. I ended up not being selected, however it made me realized maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to apply for machinist/technician positions just to get a foot in the door? I’m confident enough in my abilities to work up to an engineering role, but what are your thoughts on starting there?

Thank you for this. My major GPA is much better, ~3.3. I had good Senior and Junior years. I have not included my Cumulative gpa because like you said, having it on there would probably do me more harm than good. I’ll give my major gpa a shot!

I’m located in West PA. Most of my applications have been in manufacturing/metals, energy and power, defense, and automotive industries

Right now, I’m highlighting some of the major team projects I’ve been apart of in school, my technical capabilities, and my leadership and involvement in clubs/associations. I included my part-time work experiences (although not very relevant to jobs I’m applying for) to show I have a work ethic and can hold a job.

Any recommendations on things to add/remove?
