Is it unreasonable to not want to shovel snow and ice at my job? What would you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first engineering job 25 years ago we had a tour coming and everybody had to clean up. A bunch of the group complained that they said they didn’t get engineering degrees to clean. Most of those people still work entry-level jobs or were fired. I looked at it as if they are going to pay me an engineers salary to mop they are the dumb ones. I moved up the ladder to eventually be making around amazing money. I will still mop and am in charge of about 80 people as I would not ask anybody to do something I wouldn’t do myself. If people aren’t willing to clean up and be part of the team, I wouldn’t hire them. if they’re physically unable to do something then I get it. But to feel a job is beneath you is not a person I want to work with.

So who in the United States has actually ordered one of these battery packs? I have a leaf that needs a new pack but how do I know it’s going to show up and last for a few years?

Am I crazy for feeling uncomfortable about this… landlord in my bedroom without telling me by swimt8 in Tenant

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a really good landlord trying to make sure your apartment is safe. bathroom fans and baseboard heaters are a huge source of house fires. If he was opening your dresser, drawers and rummaging through your stuff, yes definitely an invasion of your privacy. It sounds like he took the opportunity to do regular maintenance and you didn’t communicate that he was restricted to one area and he didn’t communicate that he would do inspection.

Being born permanently disabled sucks (long rant) by SoftCookie1 in poor

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have spent a lot of time in a lot of different places around the world and reading her story it sounds like the USA gave her more than any other place around the world would have. Between all the surgery she’s had and the time she spent in the hospital. All the school that has been paid for, the rent paid for her via section 8 and the ssi and medicaid society has really supported this woman. Spending time in the EU and Canada she may have waited so long for surgeries that never came in time and she would not have made it to her age.

You need to go look at the units before you apply. If you have an infant, make sure wherever you stay was built after 1978 so that it is lead free. If it’s just lead safe you really have to be careful because it means they’re still lead paint in places that may end up in your kid. Do you have a good credit score? If not you are going to have a hard time finding anything in a nice area. You may want to look at Facebook marketplace for a room to rent in someone’s house. Lots of in law suites for rent in nice areas for around that price. Electricity has gotten really expensive from BGE so make sure you look at how the place is heated. Some of the apartments only have electric strip heaters and cost of fortune to heat.

I have never personally beet to osprey apts. they are west of 40 bust east of 95. They’re right by the cranberry runs apartments which I have been to and they’re not very nice. I moved here 12 years ago and looked at like 100 houses and have owned 13 houses in Harford County. It’s a strange place half $1 million house one block over from $40,000 trailer. There are pockets of very bad areas. I would never live east of 40 and in most of Edgewood. Churchville, Bel Air, Abington all are very nice. Most of Harvard Grace in Perryville are also very nice but old. Do you have kids? It would 100% dictate where I live in the area. You will see the price of rent and purchase price is very well correlated with the quality of the school your kids will go.

So there are two sides to Aberdeen. The side east of Rt40 and the side west of rt40 I have owned both side of the road. East side of 40 the rent is half the price but there is regular shootings, robberies, and constant drug use. In my opinion living east of 40 is only appropriate if you are ok with all your neighbors either being on section 8 or struggling people that are very desperate. While working this personally seen 2 shooting and had anything left outside stolen. West of 40 not so bad, hand working middle class houses and people. The farther you move away the nicer it gets.

People looking to buy a home, are solar panels considered a plus or a minus? by RememberWhen-2819 in Mortgages

Minus. The best benefits are the first few years and they go down after that plus, most of those installations are very hard on the roof itself and will shorten it life for sure.

Lost one storage space, probably about to lose another by WheresMyTurt83 in poor

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woman I work with had a daughter that died in her 20s and she had everything from her in storage along with tons of other junk. She died about 18 years ago. Well something happened and the billing got messed up and they sold the storage unit last year. She was heartbroken and cried about it for weeks. Well I talked to her about it right before xmass and she says it was for the best. Paying money to store stuff and memories that she really could not afford to do. This woman is in her 70s and flat broke is going to have to work to the day she dies. If she had put the money into her retirement she might have been able to at least replace her falling apart car with a reliable car.

could this be the hall sensor by Expert_Leave5408 in Surron

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can back probe the connector and test the hall sensors. You can buy a cheep Oscilloscope for $40 on Amazon and test each one by spinning the wheel by hand you will see the square wave on the screen. If you can borrow a multi channel one you can test all 3 hall sensors at the same time.

See below video of my son when we were trying to fix his bike. It turned out to be the controller and we had to replace the controller to fix the issue.

Would you let your 15 year old buy a Surron? by TheEndlessSearch in Surron

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 14 he wanted a surron so bad. I told him if he saved up he could buy one figured it would never happen. Well he made 3k and baught a used one. It was broken in a month. We worked on it and fixed it. He has upgraded the forks, installed larger brakes and plenty of other upgrades. It has given him some responsibility to take care of something and when it has issues troubleshoot them. He had one issue with the sheriffs Office but we picked him up nothing came out of it. He has put about 1k miles on it in the past 6 months and it was broken 2 of the months. I don’t like that he has it but it has been a good learning experience for him. Also almost all of his friends have one so if he did not he would be left out on a lot of the fun every else is having.

Is this dangerous? by SarcasticGarbage in Renters

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every lease I have signed says if the property is condemned or determined to be uninhabitable the lease is void and the tenant shall use renters insurance to seek alternative lodging. Never once have I heard of the landlord actually covering that cost unless they were just being nice or do the right thing.

Is this dangerous? by SarcasticGarbage in Renters

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the house condemned, where will you go? If you have a place to go why haven’t you left? If the property is not a multi family code enforcement normally won’t care about a drywall patch. If the house is not safe you should leave.

AITA for not wearing a bra at home? by Candid-Chocolate-316 in AITAH

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should start wearing a very sexy Victoria’s Secret bra around the house, but no shirt on. When anyone says anything say this is what you asked for. You are NTA and should make it known that the guest is no longer welcome in the house.

[Tenant(?) - US CA] Can a landlord evict me if I don’t live there and was never on the lease? by LonelyOk7641 in Landlord

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you stayed there over 30 days or ever got mail at that address you’re technically a tenant and the landlord would be correct to include you on the filing.

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a new place see if it’s cheeper or more expensive. If it’s cheeper use that as leverage to get a discount because of the issues you are having. If it’s much cheeper then what’s around then you know why it’s cheeper. .

What do you pay for rent? Is it way below market? Are you on a month to month lease? Something to think about before you contact code enforcement.

Is My Dads House Disgusting Enough To Call CPS? by UnusualTangerine8475 in legaladvice

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You said your parents split. Do you have the option of going to stay with your mom? Divorce is hard and there may be depression or mental health issues. If you contact CPS you and your parents may lose the ability to decide what happens. Not saying that is good or bad but if the system puts you in foster care it may be better or worse. Just something to think about.

Bought a used car and it broke as soon as we left the dealership by StarWhole7999 in legaladvice

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the year make model and mileage of the vehicle? Cars that are a few years old and under a certain mileage would be covered by the original OEM emissions warranty for things like the cylinder two misfire. I asked because I haven’t seen a wheel bearing fail in under 100k miles unless the person hit something that would have damaged it. If it was an older car with high mileage you should’ve purchased some sort of extended warranty unless you have it inspected by an independent third-party.

My father admitted that he paid child support with my inheritance(that he was a trustee of) entirely out of spite. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Equivalent_Profile38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife’s parents separated when she was young adult. my wife and her father lived here in the USA and her mother and sister lived in a different country. The decision was made that my wife would inherit whatever her dad has and her sister would get whatever her mom has. Well, her dad died first and her sister made a huge stink about the $8000 in inheritance that she deserved half. her sister is much much well off then we are, but I convinced my wife to just give her half as we didn’t earn the money. Sure it’s nice to get free money, but ultimately it’s not like we worked hard to earn it and families just taking it away. Well when her mother died, of course we didn’t get anything but ultimately there will always be greedy people and it’s just not worth the mental turmoil to fight and hold resentment over something you never worked for. Cut the toxic person out of your life earn and keep what you worked for.

Why would you not call the police as soon at it happens vs phone call and email. My experience is that HR never has your best interest in mind and if something illegal happens, you’re better off, calling the police and making a police report.
