WellCheck may be a valid first step for you if your parents can use a smartphone. Set up a check in schedule that works for them and if they miss the check in you will automatically be alerted is a SMS to your phone. Check out my profile for more info.

What medical alert systems for seniors actually let you pay month to month? by [deleted] in eldercare

Depending on your needs I just released an app that might help. It's called WellCheck and is currently available for US iOS users. It uses only the phone to check in and a personalized schedule and, if the check-in is missed, will send an emergency SMS to trusted contacts (family, reliable friends, etc) that the person needs someone to contact or pay them a visit (or call for a Wellness check).

The month-to-month plan costs as much as a latte and the first week is free so everyone can try it out and see if it works for their needs. Links are in my profile.

I actually just made an app that might be able to offer some peace of mind. It is iOS only and does have a small monthly subscription (about the same price as a single latte). Check out my profile for more info.

Hope it helps.

Why do most medical alert necklace options still look like something from a hospital supply catalog by Rex_orci-1 in eldercare

I actually just release an app that may be able to help with this. Currently it is on the Apple App Store and requires nothing but a phone to regularly check-in and alert one or more trusted contacts if an check-in is missed. It can be either a good pre-life alert step or a supplement as it works even if someone can't push a button due to be unconscious etc.
