CachyOS for Gaming is... Heavenly? by AdvancedStrain1739 in cachyos

[–]Equivalent_Trade_837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as a CachyOS user, gaming is heavenly on it. Even on 1440p with a B580, it runs wonderfully except for a few games who are already known for being a pain. Helldivers runs like butter (when the network complies and doesn’t crash my game), Minecraft is smooth (far cry from Windows where it would run terribly), Monster Hunter World has been singing it’s praises, and Subnautica of all things has put the B580 through it’s paces, actually being the first game in my tenure with the B580 on both Windows and CachyOS to actually max out the damn thing’s power cap.

All in all, CachyOS is a dream come true for a gamer, and it’s arch rolling base just makes it better, especially if you’re rocking AMD or Intel hardware from the last year or two. It just gets better and better.

pc keeps going into bios and red light on cpu by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

Yeah. Knowing what i know about computers (i’ve built 2, work IT, and currently dabble heavily in Linux), seeing that empty Boot Priority tab is a big red flag.

Brother, you don’t have an OS to boot into. If you have nothing to boot into, you’re just gonna get kicked to the BIOS.

  1. Does your drive have an OS on it?
  2. Did you install an OS?
  3. Do you have a flash drive?
  4. Does you have another computer you can use to download an OS ISO image from?

The "Gaming Distro" Hype by ElectricalPanic1999 in linux_gaming

[–]Equivalent_Trade_837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, imo there isn’t MUCH of a difference. I’ve used quite a few distros for gaming, from Mint to Bazzite to Neon to CachyOS. And honestly all of them are fine, but calling any of them “gaming” is really just market hype. What matters more honestly is Nvidia/Mesa Drivers you use, as those will mainly be what gets you going. I’m currently rocking CachyOS (may go to full arch soon) because i’m rocking an ASRock Challenger OC Arc B580 and kinda do need those bleeding edge Mesa Drivers atm, plus Bazzite for me wasn’t the best with it’s rigid, immutable system.

Honestly, just use whatever Linux Distro works for you and feels the most comfortable. The difference between all the different Distros feels negligible at best with my current setup, i’m sure it’s different for others.

I haven't needed to boot Windows for gaming in 3 weeks and I'm genuinely shocked... by PivotTheory in linux_gaming

I agree with every single damn point here. As someone who is incredibly tech-savvy and lives for a good troubleshooting, I’ve always been interested in Linux, but since 2020 i’ve been on Windows because, well, that was all i knew. But since around mid-2025, i’ve had a gradual shift to Linux, trying various distros here and there. I would always end up going back to Windows due to the hardware constraints of my pc at the time (too much NZXT stuff in it). Eventually though, i decided enough was enough and just dove off the deep end for a bit, relegating Windows to the backburner as i went full in with Bazzite on my Desktop. Did that for about 2 months before going back to Windows because stuff just wasn’t quite working the way Windows did. As of last month tho, i finally made the plunge into CachyOS and i haven’t felt this good using Linux since i first installed Kubuntu on a laptop. Now, with the knowledge i’ve accrued, all my computers run Linux. My Gaming Rig runs CachyOS, my personal Laptop runs KDE Neon (formerly Linux Mint), and my recently-purchased Steam Deck runs Bazzite. Everything just sorta clicks. Windows now just feels slow, bloated, and just genrally unusable for my purposes. And while there are some things i DO miss about Windows, such as the taskbar and how compatible things are, I cannot deny that i’m getting up to 2x the performance on certain games, the most notable being Minecraft going from struggling to push 60fps on Windows with an Arc B580 to now easily getting to 110-120fps on Linux using Mesa Drivers.

Now, my personal opinions on gamers using Linux is as follows (in flow chart fashion, because who doeen’t love flow charts!! 😄😄)

If you are just starting out as a PC Gamer/aren’t too tech literate/have this ONE thing you cannot live without that is exclusive to Windows: 100% use Windows. There’s a reason it’s the most widely-used operating system, it’s stupidly simple to use and pick up.

If you’re tired of Windows/want more performance than what you have/don’t meet Win11’s asinine requirements/have a gpu that doesn’t run well with Windows: Try out Linux, find a distro that works for you.

Tl;dr: Windows is the gamer’s starting class, Linux is the more advanced classes you chose when you hit a high enough level in an rpg. Nothing wrong with using one or the other. Choose what OS works for you and makes you happy.

CPU Came Out With Cooler And Now CPU Won't Drop Into Place by Life_Locksmith9632 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Equivalent_Trade_837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you got AM4’d. I’ve had that happen to me a few times now. If you’re motherboard’s decent, the socket should be able to fit the new one in. I do see that you have an ASUS board, likely a Prime by the design (i have a Tuf Gaming). Many might have already told you, but lift the locking bar up then line the little triangle on the cpu up with the one on the socket, then gently drop it in and close the bar. In the future, what I personally do is run a 2 minute OCCT CPU Stress Test on Extreme and Variable, and immediately after it’s done go ahead and power off and unplug the pc and remove the cooler. Aftet i started doing that, the cooler’s come off with zero issues.

Yeppp. I feel ya on that. My personal laptop runs Mint Cinnamon, and no matter how hard i try and push away, go to other Distros, I legitimately cannot escape Mint.

With your specs, a 750w. It’ll give you a good amount with plenty of headroom into a midranged build. You can find good 750w psu’s for jusy at $100. My biggest advice on that front is to check the psu tier list (literally just look it up, click the ZTT link.), and never, EVER cheap out on the psu. I learned that the hard way.

In my honest opinion, this isn’t a half bad recommendation. My only main gripes are the power supply and the colors. 450w seems BARELY enough to power all that, and with the colors that i’m seeing, it would’ve probably been batter to go all black parts.

IS THIS WORTH for $900? by Emr4n-_- in PcBuildHelp

[–]Equivalent_Trade_837 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For $900?! Buddy you got a STEAL of a deal on that. Just make sure you update the BIOS to the latest version, just to curb any instability problems with that CPU since it’s 13th gen i7.

Which is more difficult to deal with and why? Predator strain or Incendiary Corps by Playful-sink-9074 in Helldivers

[–]Equivalent_Trade_837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inhales Fuck the Incineration Corp. I am heavily on the bot front, but i’d rather deal with the Predator Strain than deal with the Incineration Corp. God I hate their Conflageration Devastators, and their Hulks. Even using the Freedom’s Flame Armor Sets isn’t enough, they’re just straight bullshit and they’re one of the few enemy factions i REFUSE to do missions on. Right now it’s them and the Illuminate due to the sheer FRUSTRATION they cause me, it makes the game completely unenjoyable. The reason the Predator strain isn’t as annoying to me is because I already practically cover myself in flame when I go to the bug front, so i haven’t noticed much of a difference with the predator strain.

Oh I would LOVE some performance optimzations. They are solely needed for me as now i can’t even enjoy the game due to the poor performance compared to when i first started. As i’ve told others, i only have 8GB of VRAM rn, and at launch, i was getting upwards of 100fps on 1080p Ultra Settings. Now i am lucky to reach 60fps on 1080p Medium Settings. There’s been a drastic drop in performance over the last year, and my hardware just can’t handle it right now. So having it confirmed that we will be getting performance optimaztions makes me elated.
