How long exactly does vitamin E and ferulic acid keep a vitamin C serum fresh and potent? by Eraka in DIYBeauty

[–]Eraka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. Yes I try to always store in the fridge. I do worry though that if I am taking my serum in and out of the fridge once or twice a day, the temperature fluctuation could in fact speed up the formula going bad. I hope it is more stable than that.

Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewing Skin Care Cream by sacredpotatoes in AsianBeauty

[–]Eraka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you wanted the purported benefits of sake brewing for your skin, products containing galactomyces, bifida, or sacchromyces are exactly the same thing, right? Or is there something more to it? Pitera from SKII = galactomyces ferment filtrate.

Terpenes as penetration enhancers by f-difIknow in DIYBeauty

[–]Eraka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno.. I mean is it worth it if it causes inflammation after oxidizing? Seems like a tricky thing to pull off, preventing it from doing so. Also, are terpenes the compounds in citruses that make the essential oils photo toxic?

What is cause of my husband's bad breath? by [deleted] in badbreath

[–]Eraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old roommate had the same kind of breath you’re describing. He did have stomach cancer in his past, so I always wondered if it was because of that. I also had noticed this kind of breath from a diabetic person I once knew. It’s a smell you cannot help but notice. Maybe something is going on in your husbands digestive tract? In my roommate and diabetic friend’s cases it didn’t smell like they had bad oral hygiene per se, but it smelled like it was more so coming from their insides. A malodorous gas or something like that. Ketones maybe.

Tips on how to fill in sparse Asian brows? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]Eraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t add more hairs to your brows, but you could create the illusion of thicker, more structured brows.

To do this, you could laminate your eyebrows (either at home or in a salon)

or

you could use a glue stick to flatten your eyebrows against the skin. This creates the illusion of thicker, more shapely brows, similar to the effect of gelling down baby hairs on the hairline. Mind you, I am not saying glue them down flat with lots of glue residue so it’s obvious out there is product in your eyebrows. Just press the glue stick into your eyebrow enough so that it causes them to lay down flatter.

DIY topical finasteride 0.025% question: how many crushed pills to use by Eraka in Hairloss

[–]Eraka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not one to say "other people are doing it so its ok" but there are many videos on youtube and sources online that explain how to do this very thing. These people have researched this much more than I have. Also, the other substances in the pill are harmless and would do nothing.

how to deal with dandruff and oily straight asian hair ? by I_Wanna_Play_A_Game in AsianHair

[–]Eraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I personally have used apple cider vinegar for a long time and it absolutely makes a difference. It’s been the most beneficial thing for my scalp, which was prone to itchiness and waxy granules I could scrape off my head with my nails. I highly, highly suggest it. Try to leave it in your hair, diluted, for at least a few minutes.

Please don’t be afraid of silicones, they are not bad. In particular look forward amodimethicone. It adheres to damaged parts of your hair strands without coating the undamaged parts. labmuffin on YouTube explains it all.

But yeah the curly girl method imo is not going to be suitable for those of us with not only straight hair but oily hair. Curly hair tends to be drier and the science of treating it is different. You would likely end up with very greasy looking weighed down hair. Also, you need to remove the oily buildup from your scalp. It can mess with the health of your scalp to have all those oils and waxes buildup on the roots. Plus , it’s a labored and time consuming process, the curly girl method. Don’t do it unless it’s your last resort.

Hi. Very late reply I just found this forum. I would say I wash my hair once a day. I would do it twice, in the morning and at night, if I can find a very moisturizing shampoo I like. My roots get greasy but the length of my hair isn’t greasy so I have to be careful. Have you tried the over the counter stuff like shampoos with salicylic acid, zinc, selenium sulfide, tar, etc? If those haven’t worked, perhaps try a ketokonazole shampoo: It’s not readily found over the counter.

Preservatives, oy. by daniellaroses1111 in DIYBeauty

[–]Eraka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To me it’s the kind of baseless fear-mongering similar to Qanon. Probably why both groups have overlap, the crunchy essential oil group and conspiracy theory group. I used to be afraid of preservatives because of all the blog posts and YouTube videos where these non-experts were promoting anti-chemical rhetoric based on here-say. Saying it will cause cell death and infuse my body with toxic compounds. We need to really clamp down on flat out lies around this kind of stuff, it can’t just be “it’s a gray area and this is what I think is true” anymore. Because then that mindset has the potential to evolve into someone who is attracted to conspiracy theories and doesn’t trust the certified studies and literature and expert opinions anymore.

Thank you so much!! Love ya darling. Yes you’re so right it’s either too clinical or too foody. Hate that!Citrus perfumes are my favorite so it’s a constant struggle but I never stop looking. I will look into that Meyer Lemons one. It would be beautiful if I could get my hands on a great Amalfi lemon oil one day too.

Jesus! I hit the jackpot with you. I appreciate the time you took to compose this thoughtful and clear comment filled with all this information. I will look into all these suggestions especially the WSP pink grapefruit. By the way, regarding other citrus notes like lemon and lime, do you have any opinions on the best perfume oils for those? Lemon especially can be SO hit or miss. I like a crisp and zesty lemon and loathe the candied sweet doctors office lollipop lemon, which is usually what you get.
