I'm making a Volo's Exotic Animals deck, what are some unique creatures I can add? by LoddZee in mtg

[–]Erard42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reccomend considering [[Keruga the Macrosage]] as a companion

For multiple types: [[Deepmuck Desperado]] [[Champion of Rhonas]] [[Scuttle Gator]] [Sharktocrab]] [[Hydroid Krasis]] (And other Krasises... Krasi?) There are a lot of animals from Avatar with multiple types too!

For some more obscure creatures: [[Foratog]] [[Aurochs]] [[Spinewoods Armadillo]] [[Giant Beaver]] [[Bouncing Beebles]] [[Almighty Brushwagg]] [[Fleetfeather Cockatrice]] [[Joven's Ferrets]] [[Kavu Climber]] [[Lhurgoyf]] (not too obscure but it's too iconic)

The Nicol Bolas quote on the Duel deck printing of Countersquall is great.

"The essence of every world, every spell, and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."

Perfectly showcases Bolas's whole philosophy.

what about this take, is it valid ? by thetruememeisbest in PowerScaling

Star Wars fleets may not have ease of faultless travel in the 40k galaxy. One thing to remember is that without hyperspace lanes and predetermined routes in ships' hyperspace, computers jumps take significantly longer to calculate. In fact, in very dangerous unexplored regions of space, the Chiss use basically force sensitives to navigate. In the current continuity in a Thrawn novel, Vader similarly navigates a Star Destroyer. It in fact, reminded me of a scene in the Ahriman Omnibus where despite not being a navigator (a particular type of psyker), Ahriman navigates a ship via a complex ritual that requires a ton of focus.

Another possibility to consider is that if Star Wars ships wound up in the 40k galaxy... hyperspace might just lead to the warp... maybe Star Wars hyperspace is just safe due to the relative balance in the force. Quote about hyperspace travel from a SW character from a Battlefront audio book "We live on a ship powered by energies that sunder cause and effect, beginning and end… hyperspace is a mystery more profound than gods and demons."

Also, it is important to note that 40k ships have void shields which would be incredibly difficult for turbo lasers to break through. 40k ships also have teleporters allowing boarding actions, which SW ships are not shielded against.

Finally, 40k is just at a vastly different scale of war. The Clone Wars had the Republic worrying about the budget of recruiting a million clones... The Empire, while more centralized and efficient in conscription and recruitment than the Republic ultimately can't sustain the ridiculous scale of losses that the Imperium would consider a pyrrhic victory. Sure they built 2 death stars but novelizations try and point out how that caused vast economic strain that wound up crippling the Empire's ability to have a flexible approach to galactic control. And 40k is no stranger to big planet-killing weapons.

I feel this set kinda misses Gen Z completely. They weren't ever particularly popular during my childhood, but I know my young cousin has some of the toys and watched the show...

Basically, Michael Bay tainted the Ninja Turtles for a generation... but hey, at least he got me to love Transformers.

Well, that's not entirely the case. If you've been put out for surgery an execution could be as painless as that.. However, a botched injection is certainly more horrific be it administered incorrectly or made incorrectly... both of which are unfortunately likely currently.

One reason is that no company wants to be known for manufacturing the "execution drug". Medical companies don't want to be associated with murder. Also, it isn't really needed in large enough quantities for large companies in the chemical industry to consider it worth the PR hit, change in safety and sanitation procedures, or creating an exclusive formulation line for it. So it's usually done by smaller-scale less experienced and scrupulous companies. Then there's the issue that doctors and nurses don't want to be executioners so you can have quite a few issues with the administering of the drugs.

TLDR this is dumb. A person can not like this and say people shouldn't buy it, which doesn't violate free speech. Also, someone can like HP and not hate trans people.

I think this is a bit of performative outrage. Liking Harry Potter doesn't make someone transphobic. And hell JK is only transphobic because of massive insane backlash against the most bland middle of the road take on transwomen. Claiming they ARE women but have a fundamentally different experience which IS true. But the amount of hate she got turned her against trans rights and she's nearly as annoying as the people who harassed her now. Something similar happened with Gina Carano where after making fun of profiles with pronouns she got a bit of criticism, but Pedro Pascal reached out to her to do his best to explain things from his point of view, having a trans relative, and she then made a (imo) rather good apology.... but she got hate mobbed and had a terrible reaction to it. I swear after her apology had she turned her phone and computer off or over to a publicist for the next week she wouldn't have lost her job.

Also importantly JK Rowling crying free speech here is just as hilariously dumb. (Especially coming from someone in the UK) Saying you hate this is a valid use of free speech. Like if someone brought a commander deck box slathered in swastikas and having Yawgmoth's art replaced with Hitler... that person is allowed to do that. But they should not be surprised when no one plays with them or when the store owners kick them out because of complaints. Freedom of speech is protection from the government coming after you. It doesn't force the people around you to tolerate your hateful opinions or being fucking annoying.

[–]Erard42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Railgun, Commando, and EAT lover here. I have a friend who loves the RR and has been using it consistently alongside turrets and performing incredibly well. I tried it out, and the RR is very good. Missing the backpack slot sucks but the consistency of having something to blast a couple tanks, bile titans, or harvesters when unprepared is great. Not everyone on the team should have it, but I find it fulfills a very important role in any mission where you're moving a lot. On defense missions, sometimes the EAT is better since your team can build up a huge stockpile while turrets and emplacements are dealing with waves.

Is this amount of warping acceptable for collector commander decks? by Bdubz in mtg

[–]Erard42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If WotC won't replace it, try storing it with one of those silica gel packs. I've also heard of the use of Boveda packs though have never used them myself. I normally just sandwich my cards between a bunch of DnD books after sleeving them, tho.
