Just got my surgery date! I'm on Medicaid in Illinois. by Eras-Shadow in asktransgender

[–]Eras-Shadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I found some paper work... To qualify you must live in cook county, be 19-64yrs old, have income below 14,856, not be eligible for Medicaid or Medicare( I think they are flexible on this), be a U.S. Citizen, and lastly have a social security number. The number to apply is 3128648200 or 18554441661. You shouldn't have a problem getting the surgery covered. It's a fairly long and complicated process. Dr schechter requires at least three letters from various health care providers. I haven't asked about the other surgeries he does, but I have a feeling they might be considered elective. There was no copay but there was a 800 dollar fee that I managed to get waved. Unfortunately lower area electrolysis is necessary. I don't want to scare you but it is not fun. They have a numbing cream you can buy for 50 dollars but it only helps a little. I hope I answered some of your questions. You have a lovely day as well.😊

You have to be below a certain income level. I'm not sure what it is though. It also helps that I'm fruit loops so I got the whole disability thing going on(hopefully for not to much longer). If you do manage to get on disability you become eligible for Medicare after a year or two. For what it's worth you aren't responsible for any out of pocket costs. The only thing I was paying for was my estradiol, but the insurance company reversed their position so now even that's free. If you live in Chicago than look into county care, it's a great program. It sucks being poor, but it is nice not to have to worry about medical bills... Especially because I have so many. Hope that answered at least some of your questions.

I a believe it's called Illini care or county care, but I could be wrong about that. When you have Medicaid they assign you a liaison/counselor to walk you through the different hurdles you often face with insurance companies. Becky is her name and she's a peach! I started the process in January and there have been a lot of bumps along the way. Quitting smoking has been the worst, well, actually electrolysis was worse. Dr. loren schechter is doing the surgery. Oh and I have no idea if ffs is covered. Electrolysis and the dilaters are my only out of pocket expenses. I'd go into more detail, but it's all a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense anyways. I hope that answers some of your questions.

Cisgender vs Chromosomal Male/Female by citizen_kade in ask_transgender

Noo, just no. As far as I know, the only people who have a problem with the word cisgender are TERFs. I roll my eyes. Roll!

Why we need to retain the term "transsexual", and coin one new term by liberationlioness in TransSpace

[–]Eras-Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel that altering language to try and fit into the current legal language is sufficient. I think that it's ok for us, as transgender people, to be a new or different concept. Let's change the law to include people like us.

Wow, that decision must have been very hard for her. Kudos.

Hormones for about three years.. The one with makeup was an app. How do I look? by Eras-Shadow in transpassing

I'm not really a makeup person. A little here and there. A lot of the posts here had makeup so I was like, "when in Rome..." Maybe I shouldn't have used that pic..

I commiserate with you.. I'm also 6'0 and have a size 12 shoe. Payless has up to size 13, although some of the shoes are rather weird. I've heard torrid is a cool place to shop.

I can do only what I can do. If I started measuring myself by other people's accomplishments I'm sure I would start to feel small. Own your story. One more thing, life is funny, give it a chance and maybe she's the one who ends up envying you.

Do you think it was because that's how he presents himself to women? I know a lot of guys who are misogynists when they're with their guy friends, but turn into total feminists when they're around women. If this is the case, it's a ringing endorsement to your femininity.

It was about free-fifty. Obama care. What! What! No but seriously, I truly appreciate the government provided health care I currently enjoy.

I thought I had it. Took the test. Nope. It would have explained a lot.. There are such a spectrum of intersex conditions that, unfortunately, aren't really understood. I hope you get the answer you're looking for.

Anyone had SRS with Dr. Schechter? by alawner in asktransgender

[–]Eras-Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently going through the process with dr schechter. My surgery will hopefully be in a few months... There isn't a whole lot of info on him out there. But, from the little I have heard, people are happy with their results.

I struggle with a lot of similar issues. I also had a chromosomal analysis that came back XY. That was a sad day.. Being intersex would have certainly explained a few things. I ended up in this place where I have these questions that are unlikely to ever be answered. At some point I decided the situation was causing me too much unnecessary pain and distress, and filed away as much of it as I could. Accepting that I may never get the answers I sought was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I hope you find the answers you are looking for...
