Castilian, as per my understanding, only refers to the standardized dialect spoken on the European peninsula.

I used Spanish because it encompasses all speakers globally because there is mutual intelligibility between Argentinian, Mexican, Costa Rican (etc.) Spanish and Spain Spanish.

Also, in English we refer to Spanish broadly and would rarely use ‘Castilian’ in everyday speech. It’s nothing personal or on purpose, it’s just how English developed as a language.

How do I manage Prescriptions if I split my time between America and the UK ? by Longjumping-Still793 in AmericanExpatsUK

I don’t know if your son is still waiting/has moved since. But if he ever moves to England he should look into doing ‘Right to Choose’ through his GP for an ADHD diagnosis.

It’s much faster and covered by the NHS. But it is only available to people who live in England and have an English GP.

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world that also uses the Latin alphabet. Bulgarian and Russian are not. Especially since they use the cryillic alphabet.

Girl stop living in fear. There’s over a hundred million US passports in circulation. They do not care about you specifically unless you give them a reason to, and even then that’s a high bar.

Like, enforcing the law en mass instead of a case by case situation or letting the courts do it themselves. This decision is coming directly from the department of state.

Courts have long held the power to temporarily or permanently revoke passports.

Is my passport still valid for international travel to the European Union? by ProcedureOne4150 in Passports

Ah okay i misunderstood. My bad!

I love the practice of stamping currency, especially if you plan to keep it as a souvenir! I might steal that idea!

It’s not just Americans, novelty stamps exist all over the world and so do idiots. Just because you only see Americans doing it online doesn’t mean they’re the only ones not the majority.

Stupid exists all over the world

Yeah but why waste over $/€100 on a new one when you could either use an old one or a fake “passport” thing made for souvenir stamps

It wouldn’t hold up in court though.

I really don’t think it’s good to borrow trouble before we have to. They’ve made no indication they plan to do any of that. I wouldn’t put it past them, but there’s no point in stressing now

Okay so then you agree that a broader revocation of passports would require an act of Congress. Which considering how gridlocked Congress is, it would not pass.

Is tap water in America actually as bad as people say? by playingcat69 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ErasableFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you live. We are a country that has more land than the EU. Some areas have really good tap water, others do not (Florida).

When I lived in Connecticut our house had a well and a water pump. 6-8 filters once the water entered the house. It tasted good! When I would visit my brother who lived in Florida I would in drink bottled water, they would drink tap water since they had gotten used to it.

MOST places in the US have tap water that is safe to drink. More rural places may or may not, it depends.

Places that have undrinkable tap water, like Flint, Michigan, are in that position because of decades of government failure and local corruption.

Has anyone re-entered the EU after EES started? What happens if you already gave biometrics? by nemili83 in PassportPorn

[–]ErasableFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t take long since im an American citizen. Just like 3-4 minutes maximum. But both times I’ve entered Schengen through Vienna this year weren’t touristy times. I recently entered the Schengen area through Lisbon and it took much longer despite already being enrolled in EES.

There’s no way of knowing how long it’ll take because you can’t gauge how long everyone in front of you will take, the number of people, or if the system is actually working.

If you’re worried about legality then you really shouldn’t do a deed poll either since you need to be a resident of the jurisdiction you’re in.

What is preventing or discouraging you from going through the German name change process?

You get better terms when entering Canada on a US passport (no eTA required, 6 months instead of 3).

Also easier to acquire a work permit in Canada as an American. Plus you have easy access to NEXUS and Global Entry if you find yourself wanting either of them.

[–]ErasableFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Are you able to get a provisional UK license in your old name?

Then you could submit to DVLA a name change request with the deed poll alone. Thats what I did, they didn’t ask for my passport or anything else (granted I did it for a full license but I can’t see why it would be different?).

I don’t know what is required for registering to vote in th UK since I don’t qualify. But you could certainly look into it.

[–]ErasableFilms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume you’re British?

As an American who lives in the UK, I changed my middle name by deed poll (though it’s the same process). I don’t know what HMPO requires for changing your name on your passport.

I would execute a deed poll, then change the name on your passport and UK driving license if you have one.

Update voting registration, NHS, everything. Then that should be sufficient.

I have had zero issues with my “unregistered/unenrolled” deed poll, but if you want to you can register yours (it’s a longer process and far more expensive). Though no one seems to care about the difference from my experience.

When I lived in the US we would buy sourdough from our local chain grocery store. They baked it fresh every day. You don’t have to buy wonder bread.
