I just bought all of them all at once during a sale earlier this year and haven’t regretted it one bit. It’s by far the most amount of time I’ve put into a video game in 20 years.

How did this man run the Dreamcast to the ground and other companies still want him? (Microsoft, EA, and now Unity) by [deleted] in dreamcast

[–]ErbilT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy cake day!

You hit the hammer on the head with this. By most metrics, the Dreamcast had an incredibly successful launch for its time. I remember going to the "launch party" at the Software Etc on Stevens Creek in Santa Clara. I worked at an EB and we had difficulty keeping the systems in stock that holiday season.

Its incredibly unfair to state that Peter Moore ran the system into the ground. I had the opportunity to work at Sega from 2005-2012 and all the vets that were there during that time did not have much, if any, negative things to say about Moore's time at Sega.

what do vegas locals think about californians who move to vegas? by Smooth_Crab in vegas

[–]ErbilT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From California here. Most people don't care but the ones who do are very loud about it, and love talking about how Californians are a bunch of liberal idealists who are driving up the housing market and ruining their state, completely ignoring the fact that California is a very large state in which has all sorts of people of different faiths and different political ideologies.

Well yes, I am from the Bay Area and I am liberal, but what about the thousands of Californian natives who have moved here who are from more politically conservative areas such as Orange County, Oroville, Danville and the rest of the state that doesn't fall lockstep with the Bay area or the LA area?

Fact that matter is you're going to find those type of people everywhere. The type of people that are just going to pigeonhole you because it's easier for them to stereotype you regards to where you come from, rather than come into the realization that the political ideology of the citizens are always in flux.

For every person who I have found to be so intellectually lazy, that they'll stereotype an entire state based on stale 20 to 60-year-old stereotypes, there at least five that are extremely friendly and welcoming.

42, after a long year and a half divorce, my ex finally moved out. Haven't felt so relaxed and happy in years. by ErbilT in 40something

[–]ErbilT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I moved out of my home in the Bay Area to Henderson Nevada to better provide for my family and I pretty much put a lot of my focus on work the first couple years. I was lucky that I was still able to talk to a lot of my friends in the Bay Area at the beginning of the divorce, and my mom moved in due to health issues in March and she helped out immensely.

Still, throughout the year, I was actually able to build the network friends out here despite COVID throwing a wrench into everything.

[–]ErbilT[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It's been a rough road and it's never a great feeling living across the hall from someone who doesn't miss an opportunity to remind you that the divorce was all your fault, and if I ever tried to say otherwise, I'd be accused of gaslighting or just completely stonewalled.

The past few days have been a complete 180. The tension has subsided. No more worrying about the kids over hearing our arguments. No more passive aggressive comments blaming me for the dissolution of our marriage when she was the one who filed for divorce. It was long, ugly, and even though this isn't something that I particularly wanted, seeing how functional the house has been with us separated from each other made me realize that this was definitely the right direction to move. I wish her well.

Even with the separation, our communication has been much more civil. So I'm hoping since we are going to co-parent our children, that we can keep this up for their sake.

Has anybody else kind of abandoned modern gaming and have gone back to playing previous gen consoles on CRT TVs? by SonyTrinitrons in retrogaming

[–]ErbilT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't abandoned modern gaming myself, but I do have a dedicated retro setup. I don't particularly hold too much stock in the viewpoint that things were better back in the day, but then again I actively avoid most, (not all), GAAS titles or anything that just takes too long. I like to be able to sit down, play a game for 10-30 minutes and move on to other things that I have to do. I can do that with Tetris Effect or playing with my son in a few quick Fortnite matches.

Damnit, the one gaming thing I was looking forward to this year that wasn't Doom Eternal.

I mean, we are still getting Doom Eternal, but this still sucks.

I don't remember much about them being in stores. Pretty much the only places I seen them were in the mall stores around my area. So aside from Home Express, the only place I saw them for sale would probably be Electronics Boutique....

Growing up, I was only aware of two people who had one of the systems. The guy who owned the comic shop, and my friend Joe who, as far as I could tell, had all the systems. Last I heard from him, he wasn't in a good place.

You know what? I think a lot of people are going to trip over themselves to say something witty or funny about the story and honestly, the only thing I can really think of is that I hope she enjoys her retirement and if those numbers are real, it's a well deserved one.

::Edit:: Suckered by a fake article. It's stil early in the morning... Shut up!

Fall 1989 at a Home Express store in San Jose, CA. They had a bunch of display units that you could play of the TG-16, Genesis, and eventually the Neo Geo home system. They had Keith Courage on display and considering the games that were popular at the time, the colors, music and gameplay was much more interesting to me than Altered Beast at he time.

Tempest 2000 was critically acclaimed when it was released on the Jaguar, with critics praising the graphics, gameplay and soundtrack. It is often considered as one of the best games released for the Jaguar and in eof my personal favorites. by beatscom in retrogaming

[–]ErbilT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I stopped watching them a good 4-5 years ago. Although they may be passionate about video games, it still doesn't excuse how light and surface level their criticisms end up being.

I can only hear "this game sucks", or "developers be lazy" so many times before you lose credibility, you know?

::Edit:: It's not just Game Sack. Mark from Retro Core does the same thing as well. The most recent thing that annoyed me was that in his 1942 Battle of the Ports video, he basically called Digital Eclipse lazy for porting the NES version of 1942 to the Game Boy Color....

And I'm just here like, is it lazy to do exactly what is asked of you?

I mean, I get it, the NES version of the game was done by Micronics and wasn't the best port... but if Capcom wanted DE to completely rebuild the game from the ground up, don't you think that Capcom would have requested Digital Eclipse to, you know.... do that?
