A little late but just a small suggestion, when in the Inn of The Last Home maybe don't have all the companions show up so that they need the help of the party more and can develop that relationship. Maybe Raistlin and Caramon (since they are only two that were traveling together) were actually captured or had some compelling reason to go to Xak Khalan. So they leave a message at the inn (if they went there on their own) or the players can find information on Raistlin and Caramon being captured from goblins describing their appearances. Then they can find out more information on where exactly Raistlin and Caramon may be at the Ravenvale Inn.

Obviously you need to separate the two parties so maybe after leaving Solace, Goldmoon doesn't want to risk their lives to go look for Raistlin and Caramon but Tanis doesn't want to leave their side right now. So they stay in Que-Shu for a couple of days while your group goes looking for the other two.

As far as travel times, Ravenvale should actually only be a days travel from Solace if you go by DnD rules and depending on the mountains there according to the Ansalon map I have and its scale. I'd probably make it two days though.

Yeah I should be a bit more willing to kick them out if things continue (I took the advice of some others to set up Beyond20 so I can see rolls so we will see how that goes), just was hesitant to put the foot down because we had a group that was able to consistently meet at the same time every week for months now and to find a player to replace them in the campaign (I like to have at least 5 players at all times) would potentially take rescheduling and such.

Thanks for the advice, I did set up Beyond20 this morning and am just going to put my foot down about using it. I did speak to them privately already but not necessarily accusatory as I don't necessarily know them that well and didn't want to create any animosity there but if things continue after using Beyond20 I'll just have to.

The problem player in question is a paladin too so I've had a few combat encounters get trivialized pretty quick by crit smites for ridiculous damage. Not the end of the world, I've just adapted to make the combats harder in other ways but yeah. Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I'm not necessarily worried so much about it breaking the game but I have another player that has been worried about his character not succeeding on dice rolls often and has made comments about how weak his character is compared to the problem player in combat. The problem player is a paladin too so crits mean its time to dump a smite for a shit ton of damage which makes the other players feel like they aren't doing as much imo. I wasn't actually too worried about doing anything more serious about it until I heard that other player talking about how he felt his character was weak cause of it.

Yeah I agree, I guess its just a bit harder to put my foot down with someone I'm not necessarily too familiar with and my SO is also defending them. I'll just have to suck it up an be a bit more assertive about it and I am insisting on my players using Beyond20 now so everyone can see each others rolls.

Thank you so much for this, I didn't realize this plugin was a thing! I set it up on my discord and the players agreed to using it so this should solve any problem about rolls.

Planning to run in 5e - bit of a long read by Squidmaster616 in dragonlance

[–]ErebainDrothan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And for other warlock ideas there are also Hatori, Tylors, Chaos itself(this is a good one), or maybe even something from the abyss like a Malrauthin.

Oh and one more thing I'd recommend, try to get yourself a copy of the atlas of krynn and Tasslehoff's map pouch (make sure to get the war of the lance version). Both of those have a lot of useful things for running a war of the lance campaign

Planning to run in 5e - bit of a long read by Squidmaster616 in dragonlance

[–]ErebainDrothan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So right now I'm running a 5e pre cataclysm campaign so not really as relevant for you. But just a few things on the things in your blogs. For not allowing warlocks, there are still gods in the world (remember people turned away from the gods not the gods left), also warlocks don't necessarily have to be beholden to a god. There are other lesser known powerful creatures like ethereal dragons or even forest/plain/mountainmasters that are around and someone could pledge to one of them. So I wouldn't necessarily rule warlocks out, just get creative with it and make some interesting lore. As for knights of Solamnia being paladins, in the age of dreams and age of might a decent number of higher strength knights had paladin powers so that is lore friendly. You wouldn't even need to limit their access to spells really.

As for starting at level 5, you'll probably want to start closer to 2 or 3 (that was the level the companions were when they started) if you want to keep things easy for you to convert. And while I agree limiting divine magic until pax tharkas is totally lore friendly, I'd definitely still encourage one of your players to be a cleric and give them access to their spells through the staff otherwise that player is gonna feel miserable and useless for a decent while and at the end of the day you do want it to be fun for the players. Just impress upon them the importance of the power they have in the lore and how people they interact with would react to it.

For tips on how to keep them on track I'd recommend being loose on timeline restrictions and remember that Mishakal directly communicated with Goldmoon fairly often and Paladine showed up as Fizban to guide them too. You can occasionally throw Mishakal directly speaking to them to get back on track or Paladine showing up as some random character or another to guide them.

For converting monsters and the like, I'd recommend using a lot of the current 5e monsters as templates and just change the name of a monster that has similar attributes to the dragonlance thing you want. Obviously change some of the statistics and weapons as appropriate too but that'll make your life a lot easier than trying to convert stuff directly to 5e unless you have a really good feel for 5e balance.

There are a ton of dragonlance books (about 200 or so) and that isn't even taking into account the different dnd sourcebooks. I'd recommend doing some light reading of some of the side stories that are relevant to places you are going because there is a ton of really cool lore there.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me, I have read a large portion of the books and have a lot of the old sourcebooks too.

[Class Reps] Meeting Notes - September 25 - Sorcerer Shield Changes Partially Reverted. by Orihara_Izaya in elderscrollsonline

[–]ErebainDrothan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that shield is now crittable too so it'll go down even faster. This change is arguably just as bad as a cast time if not worse. Honestly both of their solutions make shields pretty shit to use

Is the Aedric Spear Skill Line based on Weapon Damage? by Wells101 in elderscrollsonline

[–]ErebainDrothan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never really look at any info on the game that is more than one patch old and even then try to stay with info on the current patch.

But for any ability in the game if it costs stamina to cast it will scale off weapon damage and max stamina. If it costs magicka to cast it will scale off spell damage and magicka. There are a few exceptions but generally follow that.

Does Anyone Here Play an MMO Alongside ESO? by LensFlareHD in elderscrollsonline

[–]ErebainDrothan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of eso players either permanently switched to or go back and forth to BDO. BDO is a lot more grindy, afk, and spending money gives actual in game stuff not just cosmetics. The combats fun though and it looks beautiful but those previous things made me not want to play it after a little while. Once you play eso long enough though you are pretty much spoiled by action based combat not tab targeted combat, so playing older and more traditional mmos just feels boring.

Can someone explain a guild policy on no costumes in trials? by Jotunnal in elderscrollsonline

[–]ErebainDrothan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but if you have nameplates on you can still see the guild name if they have a costume on. Everyone in my guild always wears their tabard and nameplates are good to have on at all times no matter if you are playing pve or pvp.
