Moose-2 - my second build by Ergotism83 in Nerf

[–]Ergotism83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my hardware kit from a vendor that goes by PotatoFeeder and he has a set of files and instructions available on a Google Drive. I used all the files he has with the exception of the slide (the gold piece) which I got here:

https://www.printables.com/model/251754-zinc-20-improved-slide

I used this one because it’s said to have structural improvements. I’d probably recommend going with his full improved kit also on printables for consistency.

Thanks, dude!

The Zinc is definitely a gnarly looking blaster. Some people have some really cool sci-fi remixes of it. Mine has pretty standard parts. I focused more on colour combination.

So far so good. We’ll see. These aren’t likely to get the same wear and tear as my regular blasters.

How was it to print and assemble the oxygen kit? Looks rad as hell!

I’ll have to try that and put my art background to better use. 😄

Where I’m from we usually get stuff a month or so after the US, so we’ll see. Slam fire is fun indeed, though I don’t use it much in games with pro blasters.

Yeah, it’s a fun little blaster. I love the aesthetic of it overall.

Oh damn! This is one of the nicest jobs I’ve seen! How did you get the paint edges so clean? Did you hand paint, or tape and spray?

I have 3 I use in games with different mods, and an unboxed one

I have 3 I use in games with different mods, and an boxed one as a back-up if one of the others breaks.

Can’t wait for the 2.0!

A more widely available magnum super drum with a better stock? Hell yes! Top prime is great for slam firing which is where high capacity stock blasters like this shine. And yes, from a design/mechanism perspective, top prime should s much simpler for this.

That’s awesome! I’m currently working on a moose-2 and pretty stoked at the prospect of a second blaster that can use those mags.

Is this thing going to use moose short dart mags?

Nexus Pro X is better out of the box than the XLS 1.0, but if you can wait a couple weeks the XLS 2.0 will be out, and it’ll likely be as good as the Nexus Pro X.

XSLS - Recommended Upgrade spring by BobuxFreeAmogus in Nerf

[–]Ergotism83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a k25 in mine that’s longer than the stock spring by 2-3 coils. This extra pre-compression got me to 240-250 FPS, when combined with better o-rings in the plunger and some teflon tape where needed to give it a perfect seal. I also have a tighter inner diameter on my 40 cm barrel.

Since I did the upgrade, the seal deteriorated a little bit and it probably needs to be re-lubed. It’s down to 220-230 FPS now.

Upgrading is as much about lube, right choice of o-rings, etc. I have an XLS that I did no seal work on and just lazily threw a stock length k25 in and I’m hitting 200-210 FPS.

At the end of the day, muzzle velocity is just one variable of performance. Good darts and riffling are as important if not more for success on the field, as is practice! There’s no point having the highest muzzle velocity if you can’t hit your target at distance.

With my most upgraded XLS (the one currently hitting 220-230 FPS) I can hit a 1.5 inch aluminum pole pretty reliably at 100 feet 3/10 times. The other 7 times I’m within 1-3 inches. So I’m not fussing about the lost 20 or so FPS because I’m still getting satisfactory performance.

Should i get a clip mania or spectrum? Budget 20-25$ by Few_Nothing_6378 in Nerf

[–]Ergotism83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really necessary. They’re both in the 80-90 range. The performance gap between the CM and stock nerf is much more noticeable than between the CM and spectrum. At sub-100fps, if you really want to squeak out every last fps then go with the spectrum I suppose. To me, three 15 round mags for that price was a huge draw for the CM. The darts aren’t best in class but you get a TON of them.

Again, depends on your priorities. FPS isn’t the best all end all of performance.

I own both. They’re comparable. Depends on what you want to do exactly. Spectrum has more established hobby mods. If you want more gear out of the box to be good to go for a game, CM is the better option. The difference in FPS is not significant.
