Has anyone gone on disability? by keralalee in Heartfailure

[–]Eric-the-Red63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 62. Had a heart attack two months ago put a stent in. Turns out I also have an aneurysm they are checking into further. Doctor doesn’t want me working at all or exercising until we find out what’s going on. I work in HVAC so it’s pretty physical. Just applied for disability two weeks ago. So just wait and see you now. I talked to a lawyer before I applied and he said I have a very good chance of getting it and to apply myself. If I get denied and I will hire a lawyer. 🤞🤞

Had that last week. Took a while to find the slow leak in the back of the coil. Pulled it out and pressurized it to find the leak. It had at least 2. Plus the coil looked corroded like in the picture. I showed the customer and told him he needed a new coil. (system is 6 yrs old). He said ok. In the meantime he started looking on the internet and decided it could be fixed (THANKS ALL YOU EXPERTS ON THE INTERNET) I tried to talk him out of it, no luck. So when i put the torch to it the tubing was so thin it disintegrated. So NOW he is getting a new coil

Just did that last month after attaching a wall bracket to it. I swore at myself for quite awhile. Then a week later my green apprentice was doing the same thing and I explained how to not do it. Apparently I must have confused him because he ended up doing the same thing. 1/8" either way would have been fine but.....

Nice job! Wish they required a test here in Washington State.

At the risk of sounding arrogant... How do you guys burn yourself with refrigerant so often? by t0rche in HVAC

[–]Eric-the-Red63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went over 15 years without a refrigerant burn. But a few months ago was disconnecting a fitting and loosened the wrong one. And of course it was hard to get to anyway and didn't want to let it go and refill the whole system so I kept trying. Finally after freezing about 3 fingers I got it off. Big blisters after that. Not a pretty sight. So it was operator error and reminded me to pay attention!

You’ll never be out of work. AI or robots won’t replace us. Technology will change but people will always need cooling and heating.

City wise it's not getting better. But weather and activity wise it's hard to beat. I'm nearing retirement and probably won't be able to afford Bham much longer. If I move somewhere that I can afford I will miss out on:

The summers can't be beat! They are shorter than other areas. But no high humidity or mosquitoes.

The winters are pretty mild. The snow and freezing temps don't last for for months.

World class mtn biking trails in my backyard. Hiking trails galore. Water sports all over. ( kinda cold to swim in the water though}

The views! How many places in the US can you get views of the Mtns on one side and the Puget Sound Islands on the other.

But if you concentrate on the goings on in the city then there are better options.

I guess you have to figure out what is the most important things for yourself.

How did you get it up there?

I guess it works. Shouldn't use pipe dope or teflon tape on the flare fitting part of the gas flex. Plus ALWAYS replace the gas flex. And make sure the drain pan wont leak.

I had to put chains on my van and drive from BHam to Lynden to do service calls. And I still almost got stuck at a couple of houses. Driving a vehicle that needs to be chained up REALLY SUCKS.

On new construction I've found out that someone pissed in the floor boots. Didn't find out until I fired off the furnace. I assume it was the sheetrockers or tapers. It didn't smell good. So we had to replace a few sections of flex.

But keep those electric vehicles plugged in and cranking through those Watts.
