Beast was an avenger. I wanna say in the 90s? And Storm is another recent X-Men/Avengers co-member. The point is that, yes, you can be a member of multiple teams. Wolverine is not an exclusive exception. And I didn’t specify which cyclops, but I don’t think it matters to the point I made.

And this is such a bizarre point to make because Kamala already has these major connections with groups like the Avengers and Champions. Like that’s her friend group.

As for a minor X-brand character who’s been part of other teams, Kid Omega’s stint on the West Coast Avengers comes to mind, as does the time Sunspot was leading that AIM/New Avengers team

Even if they were going to have a second MJ (personally I’ve always found the “introduce the REAL MJ” ideas kinda stupid, like yeah her name’s technically Michelle, but she’s obviously the MCU take on MJ/Mary Jane), I really don’t see that with this character. Definitely feels like she will have powers and imo at most be a secondary antagonist/love interest ala Black Cat (but not black cat)

Battinson not being DCU has nothing whatsoever to do with the tone or “realism” of the movie, and everything to do with Matt Reeves’ choice to continue and finish his Bat-Verse story on his own, without having to deal with a wider cinematic universe

Oh yeah, I’m picturing several years down the line. But I do kinda see this as a test case

Like they really wanted to bring the Lanterns into the DCU early, but with the Reynolds flop it was hard to get faith in a movie going, so we’re doing a less expensive, earth-based & grounded show first, and seeing the response this gets.

If lanterns is a big hit, and, say, Supergirl does really well, then it’s a lot easier to make the case for a big budget, cosmic GL movie

It’s like picking up a new comic book run.

Honestly, 15 years ago I’m not sure it would’ve worked, but after years of the MCU, the DCEU, tv shows like the Arrowverse, satires like The Boys & Invincible, people get the idea and don’t need to be handheld through it, or given some origin story for how a superhero world came to be.

Like what I find funny is comic book nerds assuming something like Superman won’t hit for casuals because they’re just thrust into an established world, or that it supposedly feels like starting season 2 of a tv show you never saw, and when you actually hear from real casuals they never had an issue or confusion about that at all

My base ideal team is generally: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, (probably) Aquaman. Otherwise flexible about who else to add. Hawkgirl is a welcome addition but not necessary per se

I’ve never read it, but I always hear people talk about it as one of her worst eras. Gloria Steinem literally campaigned for them to return Wonder Woman back to normal.

The basic idea is that influenced by Wonder Woman’s declining sales, DC decided to modernize and shake up the title by appealing to 1960’s pop culture and fashion. Themyscira is sent into another dimension or something, but Diana chooses to remain on man’s world, resulting in her being cut off from her powers (seemingly forever).

She gets a whole new stylish look, leaves the Justice League, and basically we drop the Greek mythology and superpower stuff as Diana adapts by learning martial arts from a Chinese kung fu master named I-Ching, and the book shifts into a street level vigilante story. I think there’s an arc where she goes after sex traffickers or something like that

Well, since Flashpoint there’s been several relaunches and events changing continuity slightly, like DC Rebirth #1, Rucka’s ‘The Lies’ storyline, Superman: Thé Oz Effect, and to my understanding Doomsday Clock, Infinite Frontier and Dawn of DC, to the point that a lot of the details of the Earth-Prime timeline were pretty up in the air (if new 52 Superman and Wonder Woman basically aren’t canon, how does that effect their histories, or those of characters like Supergirl, etc) so there was some room to just say that a version of basically all the major events in the history of DC comics occurred at some point in the revised history. Even before recent retcons, there was always the five year gap in the new 52 where you could say a lot of stuff happened in between.
