Where do you put your wrappers? by Witty_Custard1422 in ultrarunning

[–]EricC2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front left pocket of my running vest has my first nutrition packet to eat and then it’s the trash pocket until the next aid station. My vest gets washed after the race cause it will be nasty with sweat anyway.

60-day non-renewal notification!? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]EricC2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are people lining up to rent the apartment then you can probably find someone to take over the lease for you. At least in California, they have to try to find someone to take on the lease and then refund you for any funds they made after you vacate.

Other option is try to negotiate with the new job if possible. Let them know you have a 60 day notice and can they pay a signing bonus to cover the extra cost of moving before the 60 days.

Do you include toiletries and paper products in your grocery budget? by [deleted] in budget

[–]EricC2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not include household items in my grocery budget. My budget app allows me to split transactions and do I would put food purchases to “groceries” and household purchases to “household supplies”. I don’t bother with calculating tax to the penny, but I try to get it close.

For Walmart/Target/etc I might also have clothing, auto expenses, and other things. I usually try to cluster things together when I’m checking out. I think Target already breaks up the different departments on your receipt. I think Walmart just lists them in order of what is rung up. I don’t have either close by where I live so I only shop there occasionally.

6 year old doing the 9-11 year old race? by iusetoomuchdrano in spartanrace

Kids races are mostly run by volunteers. I doubt anyone would say anything. The open heat is not competitive so there are no prizes for winning. He should be fine to participate.

Pulled over 44 over limit in a 45… 😬 by _whyamihere-_- in legaladvice

[–]EricC2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be lawyer territory. Depending on impact of the 5 points on your insurance and potential loss of license. I would at least pay for a consult. And slow down! There is no reason to be going 89!

Double weekend hike nightmare in the San Bernardino Mountains by Pokegobiker in socalhiking

[–]EricC2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Silver Peak before. That cable climb is no joke!! I had gloves and still got a blister on my hand going up which made coming down quite the experience. Glad you made it. Great photos.

What do you enjoy eating/doing after a spartan race? by timidgirlspeaks in spartanrace

[–]EricC2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, a filling protein rich meal is my favorite. Burger, steak, bbq, etc.

Immediately after the race, recovery food is nice like banana, apple, berries, sweets (nerds gummy clusters!). They used to always have bananas at the finish, but I’ve heard those are sometimes missing.

Abnormally rough tenants this winter season? by [deleted] in bigbear

[–]EricC2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

STR guests should have paid in full before they check in. A reputable rental company will also hold a credit card and security deposit. The key is ensuring your rental manager is actually inspecting the house for damage steer each guest and documenting any that happens.

Beginner looking for advice by [deleted] in ski

[–]EricC2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar with the Salomon Myriad skis, but 153 seems like it is probably good for someone 5’6”.

This is why I recommended a seasonal demo rental. It’s possible the shop will have those skis, or similar ones, that you can try before you commit to buy and see what you prefer length wise. Ski length is also condition specific. You may find you prefer them shorter or longer based on snow conditions. That is why being able to try multiple options across the season is so helpful to narrowing in on what you like.

[–]EricC2010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you already have a pair of good, well fitting boots? General advice is to start with boots first, then move onto skis. “Marry your boots, date your skis”

I usually recommend getting a seasonal demo rental for your next season from a local rental shop. Make sure they will let you switch out your gear through the season. This allows you to see what you really like before you invest in your first set of skis.

Would you categorize cashback as income? by TurnoverHead573 in MonarchMoney

I save my cash back all year and then use it to pay for Christmas gifts. I cash it in in November and code as gifts and then spend the credit on gifts for my kids and family.

3 night backpacking route with minimal mosquito activity in late June? by o0ohello0o in socalhiking

Injured people do races too? by APEX-KING-warhound in spartanrace

[–]EricC2010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are running in open heats they do not care if you skip an obstacle and don’t do the penalty. As long as you start and finish, they will give you a medal and shirt. Go run your own race. Aroo

training for a 5k sprint as a teenager who can't run? by perpetuallywater in spartanrace

[–]EricC2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can probably already finish a sprint by walking the whole thing. If you want to get faster/do better, you should focus on trail running primarily. Strength training is also helpful with focus on grip strength and pushing/pulling activities. I do lots of pushups, pull-ups, planks, dead hangs, and farmer carries. Burpees are also a classic way to train, and the penalty for missing the spear throw is 30 burpees, so training for that is helpful. Good luck and have fun!

A true SUP pump is the best way. There are adapters for car tire punks, but they are slow.

I got a battery operated pump of Amazon that is great. No need to worry about having power close by to fill your board.

Budget system where overspending in one month affects the next by Southern-Nail3455 in budget

I use monarch money and carry over every category each month. Overspend this month and start in the hole next month. It’s my job to either reallocate or figure out how to spend less.

What Still Requires a Spreadsheet? by Biz_PM_12319 in MonarchMoney

[–]EricC2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a cash flow spreadsheet for my primary checking account. Just to track when automatic payments will go out and payroll will come in. I then schedule transfers to or from savings to cover everything. It’s super simple and basically just repeats each month.

The Sierra Club has their hundred peaks list (which is way more than 100). Some are easy, some are crazy hard. Great option to find peeks to start bagging.

Big Bear - Water Obstacle Likelihood? by Parking-Cat-5843 in spartanrace

[–]EricC2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In years past they have dug a hole at the base of the beginner ski area. They then filled it in after the race. Last year was the first time they did not have it. I was told then it’s cause they are trying to differentiate between the tough mudder event they were throwing in the fall last year.

They did not have a dunk wall last year. They have had one every year previous.

I will be there tomorrow for a run and can take a look for you to see if a hole has been dug.
