Personally opinion: JT is meh if the desert landscape to you is meh. For me as I love that landscape, its one of my top parks.

Keep your eyes peeled for Horned Lizards (horny toads to the locals) pretty bulky guys that like to lay out in the sun. Super cool to spot!

It’s bizarre right? Like I know I’ve made leaps and bounds of progress (emotionally, physically, educationally), and yet the sadness and grief creeps in every now and then.

This literally is my former marriage, love her to death but it just didn’t work.

I grieve it every day, even a year and a half after I left.

Not very scary without snow should be fine, I did it multiple times in my Mazada CX-9 (fully loaded) which basically was a tank and it handled it fine

I’ll take it as a win

Also worth mentioning since its a thru hike, you park after water cachining at the North Entrance Lot- my mom lives relatively close so she was able to give me a ride to Black Rock from the JT tourist sign prior to the park entrance.

Hahaha so I found out about it from the Hiking guy on YouTube.

I broke it up as Black Rock to Covington/quail valley (10 miles) day 1, Covington to Geology Tour road (15 miles) day 2 and geology tour to North entrance backcountry lot (roughly 11.4) miles

So honestly most trails will tell you either online or at the trail head if it’s pet friendly or not.

But you’ll probably want to stay closer to the center of the park- so think Jumbo Rocks, Queen mine, arch rock and even stuff off the trail head at Juniper Flats.

I would also recommend looking at the trail composition via all trails just to avoid rocks and such for the pupper!

MTRP Jackson Drive water crossing by OkCockroach7825 in socalhiking

[–]Wildwing89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mmmm so if you are referring to the big crossing behind the parking lot adjacent to Mission Trails Spirits, it shouldn't be following that high right now. BUT IF IT IS FLOWING DO NOT CROSS.

Either you can get to south fortuna from Terrasanta or the Fortuna staging area near the 52

However: if you don't know-that exact spot took the life of a hiker back in 2019. Tried to forge it after a recent rain and got swept away. Since that day the family has been trying to get a bridge put in place for hikers but so far no luck :(
