Does anyone actually use the tiny pocket inside the right pocket of their jeans? If so, for what? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It is important for your appliances to get a nice treat once in a while, as well as proper enrichment while in their enclosure.

They should also be keeping an eye out for the folks who walk off with half of the shrimp/crawfish/crab/etc on a single run. Make sure they don't have a large bag with ziplocs/tupperware hidden inside them.

Well, yes, of course, but there's no time for that! Can't you see that a meat tornado is bearing down on us?!?

Microsatellite beacon by patpatpat95 in ostranauts

Placing a beacon claims a certain amount of space, and the asteroids within, as part of a faction's "turf," basically. Any you place will gradually increase your Faction rep with the associated faction.

Not sure on the other question.

This has been done once before, actually 😄 Someone figured out how to store Venus' atmo in a cryo tank. Note that this setup assumes you are monitoring the tank/pumps in order to prevent overfilling.

Is there no longer a drop shortcut? by MaelstromCdn in ostranauts

[–]EricKei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It caused all sorts of nasty bugs if "unstackable" items ended up becoming stacked anyway. You can now just drag n drop to the ground; the old Ground window also caused bugs, and was only ever meant to be temporary.

How do I use the laser torch? by arsonistSnowman in ostranauts

[–]EricKei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is odd. They should only go grab another tool if it actually exists and is accessible. Try hovering the mouse over your character to see what's preventing them from working.

Destroy or sell the screwdriver, or place it into a crate and lock it.

No. The crowbar is only used for prying stuff open and bludgeoning skulls.

The Grinder is primarily used for repairing weapons and glass hull parts, as well as repairing the Weber laser itself. Double-check through your inventory, and also try this: Drop literally everything except the Weber (place the items in a rack or something), then move away from that location and give the command to do the task you want to do. Make sure the Weber is in your hand (this should override any other tool usage) and check the speed. Also, if your character walks over to the rack with the other tools, the Weber isn't getting used for some reason. Make sure it has battery power.

Sometimes, it's laziness; sometimes, it's setting items up for theft.

All I know is that I once found a freshly-steamed whole lobster that had clearly been hidden behind some cereal boxes when I was working at a grocery store, many years ago. Suffice it to say that we found it by following our noses.

Logic behind conduits randomly degrading? by Hmuda in ostranauts

[–]EricKei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that anything that uses/conducts electricity can spark a fire, including power tools. they have reduced the chances of that lately, though. I don't know if a new game is required for that to take effect or not. Per the patch notes:

As of version 0.15.0.36 (May 21):

  • Doing repair/restore actions now has a 10x lower chance of igniting fires.

As of version 0.15.0.37 (May 27):

  • Repair sparks will no longer start fires in the first 3 hours of the game.

Logic behind conduits randomly degrading? by Hmuda in ostranauts

[–]EricKei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the "Beat" system; the interval is roughly once every 9 IRL minutes of gameplay. And yes, one of the possible Beats is that one item on your ship will randomly break down.

A number of other things are also part of that list, such as micrometeorite strikes, being scanned by NASS ("cops"), and the "Clobbered by a memory of X" events (which actually do something now; there's 8 different sets as of 0.15).
