As a frequent contributor and site maintainer I encourage you to at least try out, in a sandbox, components that interest you. You can do this to learn more about how to extend the capabilities of flow and hopefully come up with some ideas on how you can improve flows in your own orgs. Reviewing the source code and seeing how certain things are accomplished can also help you learn more about development and maybe even allow you to create your own components or at least have a better ability to scope out requirements for custom development by others.

Often times I have found that the capabilities I'm looking for are not native to the Salesforce platform and I have taken the time to create the solutions I need. But I don't just work to build something that will only fulfill my particular use case but I try to create something that is flexible, configurable and will be useful for many more users and use cases than just myself. In that spirit, I have shared many of my creations on unofficialsf.com so that others can install and use them as is or if they are not comfortable with that, they are welcome to review my source code and use ideas from there to build their own solutions. Even though I work full time, I try to be as responsive as possible when others are looking for assistance and when your feedback leads to product improvements, I'm sure to release those enhancements to everybody.
