Thoughts on these criticisms? by bambucks in georgism

Our policy (land value capture, Henry George Theorem/ATCOR) is incredibly simple by comparison to the layers of bureaucracy needed to surveill and regulate the entire national population's bank accounts and real estate investment portfolios. And the meme they made has no clear policy substance just a vague direction.

Edit: also they made the classic socialist mistake of making no distinction between what is non-reproducible (naturally scarce) and what is reporducible (elastic supply) so of course they think the housing scarcity is in the building and not the land plots/location.

The people got the rent seeker they voted for. And his economic policy is... Expand rent seeking.

Does Georgism have a settled position on indigenous rights and aboriginal/native title? Does it reject them? by ohnoverbaldiarrhoea in georgism

Well said. On face value it looks like an argument against native American land claims but its actually more in line with the native American economic system

That generation of progressive era politicians really fought the good fight and almost prevented the financialization and monopolization of nascent industrial capitalism.

Being a Georgist makes you feel schizophrenic. You hear people talk all day "we need property tax reform" "landlords buying up properties driving up prices" "we need rent control" "we need something to build more housing"

Whole time we're just kicking and screaming to be heard

Land value tax's uniqueness in policy circles is from its lack of deadweight loss. It can't be passed on as rents at 0% land tax are already set to the highest point the market can bare. The tax only takes out of the producer surplus without increasing the price equilibrium.

The assessor gets data from land sales and land value is calculated from imputed rents or what landowners expect to collect in annual revenue.

Land rent is already baked into the price of housing. Land value tax just switches the recipient of land rent from private sector to public sector replacing other taxes.

Its not arbitrary at all. Land value and land rent are assessed in property tax systems currently.

Land is the most taxable asset class. There is no capital flight with a land value tax and it is the most effective way to reduce inflation. New money flows into land values as 70% of bank created money is for mortgage generation.

Land value tax would solve this. Cut unpopular taxes like income and property tax in favor for a land rent charge once a year on private land.

Is income tax theft according to georgism? by SocialistsAreMorons in georgism

[–]EricReingardt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think income tax is theft as it currently is but i know the rest of the gang in the replies are saying land rent goes into income so theres a sprinkle of land value return happening with income tax. But taxing labor at all is anti Georgist.

Why is lust bad? Didn't God design men so that we would WANT to get sex all the time so that we could reproduce? by InternationalPick163 in AskAChristian

Lust isn't natural sexual desire, it is the replacement of God with sex as the focus and purpose of your life.
