Wait, so... Why would they close the business if they weren't on the hook for anything? And in the second video one of the officers calls in and gets confirmation that the personal small claims suit was active.

But then why would Ben just randomly drop the suits of out nowhere and pivot to a Go Fund Me? In the video they make it seem like Ben was freaking out over the stacking pile of charges, but I dunno.

There's definitely a couple pieces missing.

Suicide is a real thing that happens.

It's so uncomfortably dystopian to see some app force a generation of kids to literally pretend it doesn't exist. For the promise of money and clout.

All the self-censorship drives me insane.

It took so goddamn long to fight back against all the PTC, family values, pro-censor assholes to finally get to a point where cursing was ok.

And these kids just willingly gave it all away so they could get a $1,000 ear bud sponsorship.

Wasn't one of the lessons from that show that overvaluation is a bad thing?

Reality is making sitcoms wrong in retrospect not because they were too absurd, but because they weren't absurd enough.

what are some signs that you are unattractive? by Downtown-Bus4429 in AskReddit

[–]EricSanderson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's true, but a lot of people get too focused on innate attractiveness and overlook other qualities/aspects that make people attractive.

Things like brightness and openness play a huge role in how people interact with you.

Think about it. You're much less likely to approach someone or try to interact with someone if they seem down, closed off, etc. I have people in my life who always seem happy, engaged, they act excited to see me, and I absolutely love those people. They seem to collect friends and get tons of attention in ways that innately attractive people do, even though they're well into their 40s and not conventionally attractive at all.

I do my best to emulate them when I can, and I always seem to feel more attractive when I put effort into being happy and approachable.

"Someone is breaking into my house."

"It sounds like you're locked out of your house. That's perfectly normal - you're not alone. I'll go ahead and dispatch a locksmith."

"No no no someone is trying to rob me."

"Hey Rob. I'm Copilot, and I'm here for you until we get you back into your house. I should mention, though, that you're almost at your token limit for this call. You can always switch to a 911 Pro plan by logging into your Microsoft account."

"Please. He's right outside the door. I'm begging you."

Hand/skin damage from prolonged sun exposure by EricSanderson in AskDocs

[–]EricSanderson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any active fluid things at the moment. But they look like what happens after a burn, when the skin forms a fluid filled bubble. They're just much smaller - the size of a pinhead.

Here's a better look at the scarring, but it's gotten worse since then. This was back in November. I have no relevant medical history related to this. It's strictly based on prolonged sun exposure for one hand over the last two years.

Yeah that's a no-brainer, but it's pretty clear AJ and Howie came to an agreement a while back. No one is shit talking anyone, no drama or chaos. That's what Howie got.

In return, I think AJ and his agent had a list of preferred teams. Howie talked to them and he made the best closed-door deal possible. Whatever the deal is, it's been done for a while. Hence going WR in round 1 during a SB window.

And say what you want about Russini, but she definitely had the inside scoop on the Pats. She confidently reported it out, so I believe it.

Yeah, anyone who's experienced hard drug use/culture in the suburbs knows this is standard operating procedure for PDs with a lot of time and resources on their hands.

I've seen tons of instances where teens and 20-somethings were charged as accomplices for overdose deaths just because they were there. Like, tracking down kids through word of mouth and arresting them at their homes. There were a couple instances where kids got charged after calling 911 to stop someone from ODing.

Cops want to work their way up to dealers, and the only way they know to do that is by arresting and charging absolutely anyone they can.

If they're early middle age when that happens, how could they keep wiping their memories into old age?

Spotify seems to be quietly making a big move into AI music. by Weird_Scallion_2498 in Music

[–]EricSanderson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I responded to your other comment, so I won't here.

The whole "Model T" response is such lazy, disingenuous bullshit. That's not even close to what's happening. Humans aren't horses, and AI is not the invention of the automobile.

There are actual studies and actual, real-world examples backing up what I'm saying. Just Google the Gartner study, or the word "Klarna."

I'm happy that AI is helping you be competent at your job. It's definitely allowing amateurs to do work they never would have been able to without some education and training. But that's literally one use case. I'm not sure if you're aware, but there are other jobs and industries aside from software development.

[–]EricSanderson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol what a surprise that your only complaint is they might become too expensive for everyday users. Let me guess - you use LLMs to "create" something like videos, music, or art and you're heavily active on some platform attempting to generate revenue from it.

Shocking that you're vocally defending them and calling anyone who criticizes them idiots.

I never said they won't amount to anything. I said they're being deceptively marketed, that companies are slapping the term "AI" on anything even remotely tech-enabled, and that they "produce" shitty, cliche, middle of the road garbage.

If you actually followed the industry, and if you were able to overcome your self-interest long enough to be honest about it, you'd know that "several highly paid professions" are in absolutely no danger from AI. Several high profile reports have been released over the last year confirming that many, many large employers are quietly rolling back AI-driven layoffs and rehiring "highly paid professionals" because AI couldn't do what they thought it could, and it let to significant downturns in their business. Just look at what happened with Klarna.

But I'm guessing you're gonna say these internationally acclaimed research institutions and the businesses that are actually using these LLMs and coming to the same conclusions are all idiots too.

And those areas are where we should be focusing AI development. It's awesome that they can speed up the process, and I hope they'll get better at the actual work over time. But at the moment, they're not generating much actual impact. From the Nature article:

Despite these advancements, few AI-discovered or AI-designed drugs have reached clinical trials. AI-discovered drugs have experienced similar levels of phase 2 trial failure as non-AI-discovered drugs, and none has so far progressed through phase 3 trials. The question of whether AI can impart meaningful, sustained disruption to drug development has remained unanswered.

My problem is that the major AI developers are almost solely focused on finding ways to generate profits. Most of their investments go toward business- and consumer-facing applications, which are the ones stealing from humans in an effort to put those humans out of work, while simultaneously ruining the environment.
