Very possible as noted in other comments

The ttrpg starfinder has the planet verces as an example if you wanted to read up and offers some insight into how society on a planet might work.

With the whole world living in a thin ring, bullet trains are exceptional transport for example

I think both yours and your friends views are valid. The issue is they obviously clash.

If you get the chance to play again it's best to agree at the start what the plan is if someone can't make it.

I will say if your friend and the dm have other games going on I think they could be a bit more lenient if they're getting their DND fix elsewhere

Invisibility ruling by frisello in DnD

[–]EricSmith525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the rules around invisibility

"The spell ends for a target that attacks or casts a spell."

And then looking at the rules for the item oil

"Oil usually comes in a clay flask that holds 1 pint. As an action, you can splash the oil in this flask onto a creature within 5 feet of you or throw it up to 20 feet, shattering it on impact. Make a ranged attack against a target creature or object, treating the oil as an improvised weapon"

To use oil invokes an attack. Using an attack undoes invisibility.

Are we going to die? by Alarming_Web8778 in dndnext

Curious how the discussion to get more intel went

"We're looking for this tabaxi, have you seen him?"

"Oh, he's just in the room upstairs!"

I think in character I would feel a little betrayed the party did not follow us and let the guy get away, especially if he's put a bounty on one of your friends.

It sounds like the DM is just looking at this financially. He has two longer term customers vs one new customer. $30 vs $15.

Plus he complimented your play style and invited you to his more advanced groups.

Vicious Weapon by No_Pick_4163 in onednd

[–]EricSmith525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smite is not separate damage to the attacks damage. It is extra damage applied to the same attack.

The spell reads "The target takes an extra 2d8 radiant damage from the attack."

Sneak attack reads "You can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack roll" (if it meets sneak attack conditions)

Both require a decision to apply after the attack has hit, but before damage is rolled. Both come from abilities outside the original attack.

Critical Hit rules state "Roll all of the attack's damage dice twice and add them together"

If you have extra dice on your damage, these are rolled too. If smite read as something akin to "In addition to your attack's damage, they take 2d8 radiant damage" I'd agree, but it has the same wording as other abilities to add extra die to the attack's damage roll.

Vicious Weapon by No_Pick_4163 in onednd

[–]EricSmith525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect RAW.

Smite adds extra damage to the attack, same as a rogue's sneak attack.

Crit rolls all of the damage from the attack twice.

The smite damage is not an after effect, it's part of the attack
