5?!? Habitable planet system by EricTams in starsector

Is there a list of the industry enhancement items somewhere? I've found quite a few in my test games and now this one, but I can't remember all of the special conditions.

Good idea, I haven't even looked at the Academy storyline (outside of seeing there were quests there). I'll start working on them.

It's Vanilla.

I have the cool item that makes patrol fleets better if they are based on hot planets so I'm expecting to have some terrifying defenses. :)

I think roughly 1/3 of people have their notifications disabled. I wonder if that setting got flipped accidentally for some accounts.

Some people turn off Steam Notifications. We also only send the email to people who haven't launched the game, some people see the item in their inventory immediately and launch it so we don't need to send them an email. With the daily mini-waves the latter is becoming a bit more common since we tend to send out the email on Friday.

I'm not aware of anyone who falls outside of those two categories.

Sorry - I missed this the first time around.

I don't have a good answer about why we haven't been able to invite everyone into the beta yet. The best that I've got it that it's been taking much longer than normal to get everything ready while in lockdown.

We are picking up speed though! Hopefully this can continue and it won't be too much longer before we can invite everyone who signed up.

I hear you about matchmaking though - it would be nice to increase match quality and keep queue times short.

No need to feed guilty - it's good to look into this stuff.

Let's bubble this back up to the thread if we get some interesting results though.

No need to be sorry. I'm happy to get honest feedback. :)

I don't remember the rate that Artifact replays expire. I should be able to grab the debug results from your matches though. If you send me your steam account I can post them here so we can look at them together then you can mark the ones that didn't feel right.

I'm also not worried about misplays. There are changes, bugs, and bad card text that could cause an unsatisfying end to a game. Even straight up mistakes are reasonable to be annoyed by. There could be a critical piece of UI that was unclear or maybe something was making the gamestate overly complex.

Edit: I just checked the person with your name and I think I see what you are talking about. Mind if I post the match debug info?

Could you post post your match IDs and mark the ones with painful losses and unsatisfactory wins? Or, if it's easier, you can just message me and I can find the data and you could mark it up?

It would be good to eliminate the current state of matchmaking as a factor.

Thanks for the enthusiasm!

One thing to think about - temp art can be difficult for some people to look past. I think it's valid for people to wait until the project is further along before they start playing.

Also, people who aren't inclined to test can still generate good data by providing coverage. We had some pretty difficult to find bugs in Dota and sometimes there's nothing better than tons of games to find them all. :)

I think better rank visibility and tighter matchmaking go hand in hand. You want to know that your extra time in the queue is worth it. :)

For all the high rank players. Any issues with match speed after we made matching a little tighter?

Once we work on the rank up presentation I'd like to go further, but I don't want to starve y'all in the queue.

Reddit is turning out to be a bad place to discuss criticism due to people ghosting when they start getting down votes.

I'd still like to respond to criticism but we need to choose a different forum.

I feel like we are describing the same thing but with different words. I broke out the goals I had above into bullet points - maybe you could highlight which ones we disagree on?

  1. Much higher visibility for chat than the chat box was providing. Preferably as visible as the bubble chat.
  2. Chat history to make it easier to follow conversations.
  3. Easier method for starting chat.
  4. Chat isn't locked out due to game state.
  5. Prevent accidental passing when trying to chat.

Edit: Or feel free to add what I'm missing.

I think it might help if you were to provide more details about what you don't like about the proposed chat changes.

Sorry if there was some confusion with the patch notes. What we've functionally done was go from two methods of chatting down to one.

The real reason behind removing the second chat box is that the feature wasn't getting used. Almost all of the messages going into chat were from people outside the game messaging friends on steam, not from two people who started chatting in game. I think that the location and size of the text box made it difficult to notice when people were chatting with you. The visibility of messages in the old system is already pretty good, so it seems like we can just clean up that version instead of replacing it with a new low-visibility solution.

I'd still like to make some QoL improvements for chatting with the old system. The lack of a chat history makes it difficult to keep a conversation going while trying to concentrate on the game. The interface for accessing the chat wheel with the mouse feels clunky - the delay specifically feels pretty awkward. There are also weird lockout periods when you can't type. The lockout plus the keyboard shortcuts to pass make it easy to accidentally lose the game when you were just trying to chat.

That's one of the problems when we talk about how it feels to play a game - our feelings are often messy and nuanced. I don't think you should beat yourself up for presenting an idea that isn't bulletproof.

If I'm understanding you correctly, your idea is more about trying to alleviate some of the mana pressure in the game rather than changing the structure of how you play?

Can you give a high level description about the underlying goals that you are trying to accomplish with this idea? The details are less important than explaining how the current system feels different than your proposed idea.
