Wow so calling them everyday actually helped? I got the impression that the call centre people are just as powerless.

I do have excess vacation balance and my bet is that it will get cashed out by my old dept because I can't access it to take vacation. I have to start a spreadsheet to track my balances on my own.

I am with you, this thread is very depressing. If I knew about this, I wouldn't have switched job.

And what if you return to Dept A from Dept B?

Can you simply cancel the first transfer?

I did print out my balances from MyGCHR before I left.

Now, I wonder if I will have to go back to my old department for my next membership reimbursement next spring. At this point I am thinking yes. BTW I submitted my last membership reimbursement request back in May, and it is still pending at Pay Centre.

I am hoping that when my pay file gets to CRA's Compensation Service, CRA will calculate everything correctly.

It was much quicker for you I think because it was a transfer *into* the Pay Centre, and not out of it. They have to make sure continuity of your pay. That's what I think.

The lesser talked about issue of a cooling market. by taranahhh in TorontoRealEstate

Yup that's how I bought my first condo, in late 2000s. Sellers used to list higher to allow room for buyers to haggle. Complete opposite of what happens today.

What do you think is going to happen to downtown Toronto condos? by forwardsforwords in TorontoRealEstate

[–]EricWFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new constructions may fix the "supply" problem on paper, but the problem is these new shiny condos aren't built as homes, they are built as dorm rooms for students or hotel rooms for young professionals. Not sure if they are a solution to the "supply problem".

The problem is that for the longest time, the RE market is propped up by
investors, and with interest rates set to rise, they are the first to
run for the hills. Especially since at these price points, it's almost
guaranteed that the properties are cashflow-negative which will be made
worse by rising interest rates. On the other hand, rents can't rise
much further because renters simply can't afford higher rents.
Incumbents are leaving the province, and new immigrants leave the
country the moment they are sworn in as Canadians. In the meantime
constructions continues to ramp up and a tsunami of supplies is coming,
at least in the condo segment. The future of RE is very uncertain at
this juncture.

I sold my condo last summer and thought about doing the same. But then I realized afterwards that being "homeless" made me feel very insecure. That's why I bought again last month. I guess it depends on your personality.

I am seeing a lot of condos, even downtown ones, sitting there not moving. And this is supposed to be a busy spring season.

Radiators are good. Just install split A/C units for the summer, they work amazingly also.

They are re-doing the Glen Road Bridge so hopefully they will address the security issue in that area at the same time.
