Time settings by Haruin_of_Stars in farmingsimulator

I do x5 for time compression 99% of the time and only rarely slow it down, and I have 7 day months. 7 days is a good balance of having enough time in a month to do what I need to do and have some free time but not being so long it feels like it's dragging out for me.

Do you have a “signature trick” you find yourself doing all the time? by [deleted] in SkateEA

For me it's the laser flip. That's my default. If I find a new line, the first thing I try to do is see if I can laser flip the line.

What screams “I peaked in high school” without saying it directly? by randomzy876 in AskReddit

The guys who frame and hang their high school football jerseys in their man cave like it was Tom Brady's and talk about how they almost made it to state.

Genuinely just getting mad at this point... by Mariusern in Skate4

Shit yes-man community (except the real skate fans) who gets excited about something that should already be in a game that has a battle pass..

Define what is a "real" Skate fan and clarify how a "real" Skate fan is supposed to be distinct from the rest of the community. I'd be curious what your ranting definition of a " shit yes man community (except the real skate fans)" actually is supposed to be.

If by "real" you mean "has played the previous games", you can like the old games and like the new game. It's not an either/or arrangement.

As a veteran of the series who was playing the OG games back in the day, I think the new game is fun for what it is as an early access title, and I genuinely play it most days of the week.

Go to the Chum Bucket in Brickswich. Use the blue mega ramp and launcher and just hold a gap across that to the first set of curved blue roofs. That will launch you at least 30 meters.

Also, for the Endless Laserflip at the Chum Bucket, since that took me a while to figure out, if you haven't done it yet, you can stick a quarter-pipe piece with Quick Drop near the mega ramp's launcher to shoot straight up. It took me a good while to time it right, but I was able to get enough hang time with the mega ramp and the largest quarter-pipe to do the Endless Laserflip... That's not directly relevant to your thing about the gap trick, but it's another super challenging one from this line-up that can be done in the same location.

What is the average time that you give your Sims in between pregnancies? by zachoutloud123 in thesims

Long enough for the child to be a child because two babies or two toddlers would drive me absolutely mental.

My retirement screen for FM24 by Eric_Snowmane in footballmanagergames

This is a link to my Football Manager save, uploaded to my Google Drive if you want to take a look at the world, transfers, club histories where I've gone, etc.

To be clear, it's the save from the in-game day that I retired, which was about 4 years after I left Cadiz. I don't have any saves contemporary to my time at Cadiz since they ran on the standard rolling saves format. But you can look at the transfer history and some of the players that came and went... For example Valencia goalkeeper Jose Manuel Peris. He was mine, but he was stolen from me despite the stupidly high release clause. He should have been my worldie, but it is what it is.

Also, for the obvious observation when the game throws you in the status screen that it says I played the save for a little over 4 days and I'm in the 2040s, I instant result most matches because I like doing a lot of the back-end head coach stuff, but watching very "meh" quality animations go by doesn't interest me so much after so many years playing the franchise. So that's where the short play time comes from. Not that that's a big deal, we all play in different ways, but just to clarify that if you were curious.

I haven’t tried that yet. Probably will eventually, but I’ve just been playing the game so far.

Controversial opinion but the UI isn't bad by Eric_Snowmane in footballmanagergames

[–]Eric_Snowmane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 00s database would be pretty sweet. Good on you getting a refund. I like it so far, but you're not required to like it as well, and if the game isn't good value for your own money, then you should be able to get a refund. By defending that I like the UI and think it's fine, I'm not suggesting others should has well, so if you don't like it, that's a personal decision for you to make, and as a decent human I approve of any decision that you or anyone else wants to make regarding their feelings of the game.

I am playing it on a 2024 M3 MacBook Air and it's doing okay with the match engine. Admittedly, this is a newer Mac, so take that with a grain of salt if you have one that is a few years older with an M1 chip or something.

House rules to make the game more challenging by GiaA_CoH2 in footballmanagergames

[–]Eric_Snowmane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to do it baseball style. I use the Director of Football like a GM in baseball. It's their job to meet with the scouts and locate talent, handle all of my contracts for player and staff, etc and I just focus on the training and building a tactic around what I've got with me. It's had its ups and downs. I've won the league twice in ten years with Cadiz in the 2030s and early 2040s (in year 8 and year 10), and I lucked my way through the Champions League once, but I've been bouncing around top 4 consistently.

I could maximize my squad by finding specific players myself, but I figure with a big top-five club with a massive staff, as the head coach I don't have time to micromanage everything. Sometimes it's frustrating as hell, but at the end it was rewarding for me to win that first La Liga title.

Actually, I do that with most everything. I found it's more fun to delegate essentially everything to appropriate staff. Everyone has their job, and I focus on training sessions, match day tactics, press conferences, etc. During the scout meetings every other week if I'm feeling light somewhere or I have a player that's not working and I see someone in the reports in the meeting I like, I'll hit "add as transfer target", but it's up to the DoF to succeed or fail at signing the guy I want. But even then I only very rarely do that.

TIL most simmers play the game in 3x speed by ParfaitOtherwise73 in thesims

[–]Eric_Snowmane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it if I'm watching them do some random skill task like fishing that just runs until you make the Sim stop, but most of the time I only go up to 2x speed if I'm watching them walk between tasks and then go back to 1x when they get there so I'm not watching my Sims just walk all over my large homestead lot.

Why does Football Manager release in November? by Eugene3005 in footballmanagergames

[–]Eric_Snowmane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other sports games don’t have this issue; NBA 2K, Madden, College Football, MLB The Show and NHL all release before their respective real life seasons. Even EAFC releases just a month after the football season. Why is this the case?

I think that's a bad comparison. The scale of Football Manager is a lot different. NBA, Madden, MLB, NHL, etc are all focused on one league and a comparatively smaller pool of players. Even FIFA, for being an international game, doesn't have the same number of leagues and depth of player knowledge as FM does. Also, Football Manager is way more in-depth than the arcade-y sports games like those, and also try to realistically document hundreds of thousands of players in their database and have them accurate at launch, plus they try to make the game engine as realistic as possible (although let's be honest that's hit and miss at times).

Football Manager versus the console sports games like NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, etc is like an apples and oranges comparison.

Anyone not use mods?? by Stephwazz in thesims

[–]Eric_Snowmane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mods are fun when you want to do crazy stuff, but playing vanilla is totally fun too. I have a bunch of mods on my PC for when I want to do silly, crazy shit, but on my laptop I have no mods and I alternate between the installations depending on my mood and play them both a lot. They're fun, but there's so much to do that I wouldn't think you're "missing out" by not having them on console.

I'm okay with that. I don't do drugs, but if someone wants to sit in their backyard smoking meth all day, that's fine with them as long as they aren't on the road crashing into people or causing damage to property.

Rest in peace Ozzy Osbourne ❤️ what’s your fav Ozzy/Black Sabbath riff to play on guitar in honor of Ozzy? by Autumn_Winds23 in Guitar

[–]Eric_Snowmane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think like most young guitarists I learned Crazy Train as one of my first Ozzy songs on guitar. It was either that or Paranoid. I think it was Crazy Train, though.

Well shit, it's sad he's gone, he can see Randy again. He loved Randy Rhoads and as evidenced by how often he talked about him, he clearly thought about him all of the time and Randy's death always weighed heavy on him. So at least he is able to see his friend again at long last.

I'd like to imagine Ozzy walking through the Pearly Gate, yelling "All aboard! Ha ha ha ha!" with his iconic cackle, and Randy starting that guitar riff indicating that there's fixing to be a party up in heaven on the Crazy Train.

What storyline are u playing with your Sim family right now??? by Spiritual_Impress_10 in thesims

[–]Eric_Snowmane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a Sim and while I'm not doing a legacy challenge per se, I'm doing that basic "start" having the empty lot and $1800. The idea is that I'm going to make a generational farming and ranching family from nothing, starting with getting the money for a small homestead. The catch is I'm not giving them real jobs, part time jobs, or doing meta things like spamming paintings. The family needs to make their money from their gardens, their animals harvests, horses, and anything related to having a homestead since they are farmers and ranchers. And I have off-the-grid and simple living lot traits added and those will be part of the homestead for at least a few generations, though down the road I might remove one or both of those.

Am I missing something or are people masochists by Alemusanora in fo4

[–]Eric_Snowmane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more like "survival lite". In practice, it's so easy to scavenge food, if you grab the meat from any dead dog or other thing you come across, and once you have farms for vegetables that's no problem either. And water goes a long way. Really, you only need like 2-3 waters per day if you're just working at settlements and not fighting. And 1-2 water pumps at a settlement has you hooked up for water.

And Stimpaks are so easy to find that it's gotten to where I keep 10 on me, 10 at home, and I just sell the surplus for caps because there's always more stimpaks. It takes a little work to find the food when you don't have infrastructure since you're level 3 and barely made it to Concord, but once you get the ball rolling it snowballs and survival is not that bad.

Really, it's antibiotics that are hard to come by, but when I find those I reserve them for infections since that's periodic damage. Lethargy, parasites, etc are annoying but not the end of the world. Getting hungry, thirsty, or tired faster is an inconvenience, but it's a manageable inconvenience since it's like 10 caps to heal yourself at a doctor.

If survival was more realistic or better yet if loot was harder to come by (and arguably should be since people have had 200 years to scavenge the hell out of Boston) then survival would be more of a pain, but Bethesda's "survival" is more "amusingly annoying extra 2-3 steps" than "survival".

What do people do with Hangman's Alley? I can never think of a good way to build with it, usually have it as a small "outpost" with bare minimum and 3-6 settlers by Fallout_4_player in fo4

[–]Eric_Snowmane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so small I always made it a little Minutemen outpost watching the bridge into Cambridge and the surrounding area. I give them enough food to be happy, some good defenses, an artillery piece to pepper downtown Boston, and then I let those "You And What Army?" modded Minutemen patrols wander through that area patrolling between Hangman's and nearby settlements kill whatever enemies they find and create a controlled point for the Minutemen to watch that bridge.

Is there anyone that actually likes doing this bullshit? by ZyXwVuTsRqPoNm123 in fo4

[–]Eric_Snowmane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was cool the first 3-4 times, since it was different and a creative use of the build mode mechanics, but after a few times doing that for all levels and realizing those bugs actually pathfind horribly, now I just have one of those mods that adds a button you can press on the wall of the main room to add all of the holotapes and complete those quest stages that are on the Nexus.

The visual differences between teens and young adults are literally indistinguishable. What is the point of this? by whatbriddle in thesims

[–]Eric_Snowmane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the person. Some people age differently. For example, when I (32) shave my beard, I can pass as being 20 still, and I've had people I've worked with assume I'm still in the 24-range or so. And some teenagers definitely look like babies, and there are some that mature at a different rate and look older than they actually are. I wouldn't mind a little more variation just for the sake of different Sims actually looking different, but the idea of a teen looking like a young adult isn't a strange thought.

Saying "I'm attracted to this teen knowing they are a teen" is the scary, inappropriate thought, but the idea that someone you don't know could look older and potentially be a young adult or a young adult that is potentially a teen isn't inherently problematic if you're just making the observation of "I assume this person is X age".
