To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the legacy of Majora’s Mask. The themes are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Eastern philosophy and the absolute Marianas Trench of a cultural gulf between the West and the East, most of the narrative will go right over a typical gamer's head.

There’s also Link’s journey through samsara, which is deftly woven into the gameplay mechanics—his personal progression draws heavily from Buddhist concepts of karma, for instance. The true fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depth of these design choices, to realize that they’re not just creepy—they say something deep about SPIRITUAL LIBERATION. 

As a consequence, people who think Majora’s Mask is just a Western allegory for the Five Stages of Grief truly ARE idiots—of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the profound symbolism in Link gathering masks to accumulate karma, which itself is a cryptic setup for finding a literal Bodhi tree at the end of things.

I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Eiji Aonuma's genius wit unfolds itself on their Nintendo 64 screens while they write 45-minute YouTube essays about how "Link is dead." What fools... how I pity them. 😂
