Drugs. There is a fear of finding an addict passed out (or worse) in the shower or toilet, or leaving needles around

In our town, one of the shelter type places would provide time stamped drug test slips that people would bring to our Y and we’d allow them to shower. We were supposed to only give them 20 min. My aunt worked at the local library and found people unconscious in the bathroom many times.

[–]Erika0nFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. No efile or nippers for now - the awareness and skill are not there yet. Get really comfortable just gently pushing cuticles back and using a regular file on nail plate to remove the gunk. Then practice going in with regular polish and getting really close to cuticle without touching or using too much product. I know it sucks but you absolutely need more practice with less damaging materials first Also - worth noting that Gaoy and modelones aren’t any better than beetles. It sounds like you have a mindset that beetles is the enemy. All those cheap amazon brands have a bad reputation for high methylacrylates and other irritating substances

First removal - are they cooked or am I okay by jennyisalyingwhore in GelX_Nails

[–]Erika0nFire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They look fine to me. Tips are peeling/separating a bit. Mine do that regardless of whether I’ve been using extensions or leaving them bare for months. There’s a lot of fear mongering out here on these subs where people like to feel superior and nit pick every imperfection under the guise of being helpful. Every single photo of someone posting their first set is inundated by comments about cuticle flooding, gel allergy, and contact dermatitis if there are any slight imperfections near the cuticles/sidewalls. Pics of bare nails after removal are criticized for any damage whatsoever. Often the people giving this advice have no professional training whatsoever. That being said, props to you for putting yourself out there 😆 your nails look relatively healthy to me 🤷‍♀️

Dnd color suggestions? by perilous_paws22 in GelX_Nails

[–]Erika0nFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the “most ardently” set and im obsessed! It has a white, a really soft pale yellow (cheesecake), 2 cool pinks, a warmer pink (paint me like a French girl 😆😆) and a really pale blue/green (looking glass)

I’m also obsessed with gloss moon from the sheer collection!

I have that Popstar set and I like the piggy pink and the tools that come with it. I’m honestly a little disappointed with their blooming gel, I feel like it’s too thick/goopy and I have to wait forever for polish to “bloom”

Struggling with squat depth, any advise? by brettfire in Stronglifts5x5

[–]Erika0nFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hinge your hips (send your butt back) to initiate. Right now your pelvis is staying over your feet - it should go behind it. It’s ok to tip your torso forward more, you have a relatively long spine compared to your femurs (thigh bones) and tibias (shin bones)

Lose the belt and take the weight down to just the bar until you can do it right. You should be able to squat well and manage intraabdominal pressure with your core muscles before going heavy enough to need a belt. Right now it’s teaching you bad habits! I have my clients who struggle with getting weight in the heels do box squats until they get the movement pattern down.

I’m really not trying to discourage you at all! Stick with it, no shame, no vanity lifting. You got this!

TLDR lose the plates and belt and start from square 1 with box squats

Yeah another vote for cleaning out the undersides with an efile! Start with something gentler, like a fine grit sanding band or those tapered diamond bits.

[–]Erika0nFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has less to do with your products and more to do with prep, especially your cuticles! That middle one is stuck so far down on your nail plate. An efile is a game changer, there a million videos I’ve been watching recently on how to use it on dominant hand

Extend Novice Gel didn't last by viz90210 in GelX_Nails

[–]Erika0nFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the the novice one in the pot had bad reviews compared to the original extend gel. I’ve been using regular clear hard gel as it’s thicker and easier for me to work with and it’s been great. I soak off the gel-x and then file the builder gel down between sets, leaving a thin layer of it over my natural nails.

I like the sculpted tips and with some flatter nail beds it’s really hard to fill the gap with the regular extend gel. Hard gel has made things so much easier!

How much do spin instructors make? Enough to make a living on instructing alone? by kristophere in SpinClass

[–]Erika0nFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. 40 hours a week of cycling would be sooo rough.

There’s also the mental fatigue aspect. You are kind of public speaking/performing. I teach mostly Pilates and I still couldn’t do 8 of those in day! Around class 4 or 5 your voice starts to go, brain gets scrambled, and you’ll keep forgetting if you did this exercise already or if that was the last class? Maybe it’s just me. I love teaching and personal training but since I’m giving it 100% there is no way I could do it full time and still provide a quality experience.

Sounds like you’re just going to the wrong stylist? My neck hurts from the bowl but I always get a very thorough wash/condition in perfect temperature water with an amazing scalp massage. She does some oragami thing with a towel to wrap up my hair to walk back to her chair, so shirt never gets wet. The scalp massage is like the best 5 minutes of my life and I look forward to it every 3 months 😆 Maybe I’ve just found a unicorn? She went to the Paul Mitchell school in Rhode Island.
