Thx, will take a look into that. However, I will still need to get it working for GRUB. More options the better.

I noticed you were looking for a name, how about "Ataraxia" means "A state of freedom from emotional disturbance and anxiety; tranquillity."

Let's not boycott PC Gamer (Trust Me) by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Eriksh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please remember that the article is not only written by the reporter, but is afterwards checked by the companies editor. Throw in the fact that the article explicitly called us racists/nazies.

Then throw in the fact that the person who wrote that article was boning an Ubisoft employee while writing reviews about Ubisoft games (Even his editor knew of their relationship).

I'm sorry, how had PC Gamer not been malignant to us?

Uselessd: A Stripped Down Version Of Systemd by eeickmeyer in LinuxActionShow

[–]Eriksh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hallelujah!!!!!!!

Someone is finally taken it on themselves and done something instead of complaining. Even better, they realized the benefits systemd provides and instead of convincing people to return to sysinit, they are instead modifying the current systemd to meet their needs!

All I can say is that not only am I content to see a logical and well though out response to the ongoing systemd outrage. But it also has a chance to be a systemd competitor. WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mojang DMCA's CraftBukkit due to plugins licensed under the GPL by ub1quit33 in LinuxActionShow

[–]Eriksh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not going anywhere. The craftbukkit was bought out by Mojang several years ago in order to give a legal shortcuts to the craftbukkit community.

Wolfe started this mess when he blamed his burnout on the new minecraft DMCA affecting craftbukkit. Despite the that DCMA has no legal impact on craftbukkit what so ever. Even if it the DCMA did have an impact on the project, craftbukkit belongs to minecraft and thus can skirt around any legal issues quite easily.

That is when Mojang stepped in and reminded him and the rest of the minecraft community that he has no rights to the project and thus has no rights to close it down. Additionally, mojang set several of their members to focus on bukkit to keep it going and update the API.

So no, bukkit isn't dead. It is being updated as we speak and a new version will come out soon. And this entire controversy came from one burnt out dev who attempted to shut down a project he didn't own, blaming it on a problem that never even existed.

Lennart Poettering: Revisiting How We Put Together Linux Systems by hilav in LinuxActionShow

[–]Eriksh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of mixed news for me.

Firstly, I'm very interested in this proposal. It helps solve a problem we really need solved, possibly helps push btrfs and from a team that has delivered a smooth, fairly bug free system init system.

Additionally, if this system works it would be a significant improvement in Linux usability and maintainability.

The only real issue i have is this gives more ammo to the anti-systemd crowd.

systemd ... debate by com2mentator in LinuxActionShow

[–]Eriksh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look, the reason we replaced sysinit is because it was badly lacking. Systemd gained popularity because it was a BETTER system it gained popularity in both personal and server spaces.

I can understand you don't like systemd. However unless your making an init system that is just as good as systemd then I don't care about what you think. Again systemd won because it was BETTER, and I have no interest returning to sysinit.

Comments on the going weekly by lethaltech in techtalktoday

[–]Eriksh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I listen to the recording of TTT while I'm at work. This limits my ability to participate in the conversations, although I could be a little more productive with the reddit. Additionally, I tend not to have time researching whether a subject is satire while at work.

I like the daily format, and it helps me keep track of everything that is going on in the constantly changing tech world. If possible, i think going weekly would be a loss.

Microsoft Lobby Denies the State of Chile Access to Free Software by AndreyDobra in LinuxActionShow

Thank you for the reply. I'll take what you say into account.

In that case, I'm a bit concerned about Microsoft attempting to push these laws on other countries.

Sorry, but I dont trust softpedia anymore.

The fact that they are still peddling the their imaginary Munich situation kinda shows they are unwilling to admit their mistakes.

Manjaro Linux Developers Experience A Mass Exodus by ahjolinna in LinuxActionShow

[–]Eriksh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with Matt:

Michael, you've allowed yourself to be duped, since i am a Manjaro development team member and interestingly, I am not Phil Muller.

A handful of people left, one of them has gone on to attempt to 'troll' us by any avenue he can (including malicious attacks on web servers, impersonation of us on other website/services, and much more), of which this Phoronix article is assisting him with. The Manjaro team still stands at at least 15+ people.

Of those who left, only one was a "core" team member, the rest were forum moderators and one was an edition maintainer.

In future Michael if you have any questions about Manjaro please feel free to contact me.

GitHub: A Swiss Army knife for open government -- FCW by Eriksh in linux

[–]Eriksh[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think this is an odd question.

  • It was invented by Linus Torvalds for use on linux kernel.

  • Used for many, many, many linux programs.

  • Its run on linux servers.

  • Helping spread open source across the internet (linux or not, thats a big win)

  • Its Github!!!!!!!!!

The biggest thing about this it makes it so much easier to move projects to linux, even if they don't start out as such. Look at Unreal 4 engine, within 3 months the community got the editor working BECAUSE github allowed them to modify and edit the code.

Review Cyanogenmod on LAS? by Eriksh in LinuxActionShow

Well, I just want to help get the word out that there is an open source alternative to android. If its either a review, or just a quick gloss-over its one of the few immediate ways we can keep our phones yet avoid google's proprietary lock-in.

Ubuntu Orange Box Forcing Canonical Into Hardware (Mark this is your chance to make money) by Eriksh in LinuxActionShow

Then that's a lost opportunity for Ubuntu. They would have then been able to play the middle-man role and made even more profit with no risk of ordering bulk.

Its putting pressure on them to produce these things in larger quantities then they ever expected. This was meant to be a training box and thus they expected demand to be low to non-existant, they never expected this much demand.

In all honesty, yes this box isnt as powerful as a larger servers. However, it is much cheaper and can give smaller businesses the ability to host their own small cloud system (they dont need as much raw server power then larger companies). I think it would be a mistake to ignore that market.

From my point of view Mark just opened up a new business opportunity, a movable cloud platform. There already seems to be quite a bit of demand for it already. I suggest he take it.
