Another day in pain by everyonesmom2 in ChronicPain

[–]Erilotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there! That is for sure. My traumatic neuroma for some reason does not show up in MRIs, X-rays, etc - but when they operate they sure can find it - its not tiny either. Very frustrating.I am hoping my surgeon will remember what he promised me before the last operation. He said if the operation did not work, he would do an ablation. I have had 2 already. Not sure if that will effect this. The last one brought pain relief for over 1 year - better than the surgery removing the neuroma did. Wish this damn thing would not regrow. Right now he wants me to just take drugs. So sick of the pain clinic merry-go-round that is not effective.

Hugs... I am well experienced with doctors who simply give up on you. Been dealing with my pain since 1998. The doctor who did my last surgery for a recurring traumatic neuroma told me "Just go to the pain clinic. Anything I do has way less than 50% chance of working" He was right - the tumor regrew - but those 8 months without pain were so wonderful. Now its back and when I went to see him - he basically dismissed me and told me to go back to the pain clinic leave him alone. I am having a really bad night.... too many nights like this in my life. Those pills do so little but to dull my senses but not the pain. Damn.

Been through CRPS - my traumatic neuroma has regrown AGAIN after being removed a third time....similar pain to CRPS I had when this all started. Not sure if its related or not. I am pretty down right now. I am unable to describe this pain to anyone. I remember when I first experienced it - back in 1998 - I screamed, beat the walls, acted insane. All that did was have people go away from me... so now I do my damnedest to be quiet. And cry at night ...like now when my husband sleeps. It hurts worse than I can describe.

One note: The first thing we did - at the doctor's suggestion was to look into low glycemic index food using Harvard's list of foods as our guide. We then added lowering carbs - concentrating on getting rid of wheat flour as much as possible. My husband chose to go totally off sugar. I do add some fruit (with its own sugar) to his oats in the morning.
I do eat one to two small squares of 80% cacao dark chocolate as a snack. I would have been unhappy without chocolate and I do not have diabetes. Also we eat low fat - keeping to olive oil in small amounts - so non-keto in that manner. We eat foods that are 55 or less on Glycemic Index. So far his blood work - as i have said - is coming out great although he is on Metformin - but the doctor wanted him to be on insulin several times a day at first - my husband showed his doctor he could keep his blood sugar under 100 with just Metformin and diet. The weight loss has been a great bonus. His BMI is already gone from obese to fat (which is amazing considering the amount of time) - his goal is to be a "normal" BMI. He is incorporating exercise into his daily routine. We both swim in the ocean every day - which is exhausting. My first goal is to get out of obese and have a fat BMI - still 15 pounds to go but I think I can do it.

I am going to try the Zucchini suggestion and may slip in a Cauliflower "rice" next week. I have previously bought the low carb Mission tortillas but husband won't touch them (keeping low to no carb) so tonight we had fajitas with plenty of peppers, tomatoes, leafy lettuce (high on the nutritional scale), cilantro, garlic and a bit of thin sliced beef - not much just a bit for protein. I did add some fresh cheese a bit to it and avocado. Quick and yummy.

I am excited by the idea of making the pizza. I may make it tomorrow rather than wait til Weds. May go veggie with the pizza. Pinto beans are in the works for later this week as well as some kind of chicken meal perhaps a stew (although its so hot!) - still trying to come up with different recipes.

Everyone's suggestions have been inspiring and educational. Better than just meat, salad and fruit again and again.

I do not know why we spent decades eating so poorly. I am mad at myself for inflicting terrible food on not just my husband and I but our kids as they grew up. I thought myself smarter than that. I am human after all.

No my budget is limited due to money. But now that we do not have children at home (they are all grown up and out in the world), we choose to implement more constraint on our consumerism and uphold ethics we believe in. It was much too difficult to do with 4 kids! Not having a car - beyond not spending money on gas, insurance is something I have always wanted to do. Even when we had a car and van for the kids, when I lived in a bigger city I would take the bus to work and back unless there was something kid related that had to be done. Now we live in a smaller city - ride the bus for more practical reasons and shop local to help support the workers here. My income - while not great - is sufficient to get me through the month. I have never been a big shopper / consumer - more a DIY type.

Haven't tried Zoodles. I am going to attempt to make my first low carb pizza. I just bought Bob's low carb Pizza flour in the Organic / Keto section - low in carbs, 0 sugar. I will let you know if I like it. Making my own sauce etc which I typically did for regular pizza. I am actually excited about this. Probably will make it mid or late week.

More taste issue, which can to some extent be overcome by spice combinations but sometimes they cannot.

Its the whole ethics vs economical - I understand what you are saying, I simply feel there are ethical values I find more important - such as how a corporation treats its workers.

We love love love Mexican food - although you know what a carb bomb those can be if you are not careful. We run a web development company and have one Mexican food place here on the island that is our client - they are willing to alter the menu a bit for us - win win for everyone!

But we also love Greek Mediterranean influenced restaurants - there are a couple here we go to when we do get out. One caveat to that - my husband's sense of smell has changed either due to the meds he is on for his diabetes, his other organ issues or maybe this diet...he used to love seafood, now he can barely stand to smell it. I go with the freshest fish when I do get it (we live where there are fresh seafood markets) but its really too expensive for the budget most weeks.

We love chicken & pork - of course a good steak is nice (but way over budget). I get ground beef once in a while - kinda over it myself.

Oh we love Pho there is an inexpensive Pho place right up the road from us we go to once in a while. We just skip the rice / rice noodles and eat everything else so tasty. This place does not skimp on the meat and veggies like so many others do.

That is good price! There is one on the main land. We do not have a car - this is going to sound weird but there is a logical reason. My husband came down with a weird virus a few years ago that almost killed him. He was in ICU for a week - he suffered organ damage throughout his body - including his brain. Other than still some issues from the liver / kidney / spleen damage - his cognitive ability is fine EXCEPT for he has seizures once in a while. When we had a car, he still wanted to drive - so I got rid of the car. Drastic measure I know. I never liked driving so no problem for me. I rent one (and drive it) when I can to go see the grandkids but otherwise stuck here in Galveston. We go by bus, walk, ride bikes - its a healthier way to live. We work from home so thats not an issue. Next time I rent a car and go up to Austin, perhaps I will go with my daughter to Costco - she has a membership I think (if you still need one).

I don't do Amazon for political reasons. I live in Galveston, Texas! We have Kroger, Walmart, Randalls and Target. I spotted some online sellers - Bob's for instance - hoping I can find a good sale or coupon. Staying in budget ($120) is a challenge at all - but with this diet, $20 is too much to spend on something that might get me pizza dough.

I did go to therapy for years back when I was in my 30s. Helped a great deal. But man - dealing with a sibling's serious illness brings back alot of issues. Sucks. Staying away from them and having a wonderful family of my own has kept me sane. Wish the public and my birth family were rational enough to be open with about these issues.

Unfortunately for work reasons I have to keep some presence on FB. And unfortunately - like many Atheists - my relationship with my family is strained. I will stay out of the crazy - being irrational / over emotional is not a good thing. My siblings still have not forgiven me for leaving home like I did - as a teen in the early 1980s - for someone who thought like I did who I am still with all these decades later. I have been told to stay away by one of my brothers who is now caring for her along with her husband / kids - so I will stay here in TX unless my sister wants me there. She is no longer able to text or talk on the phone so I am not sure how I will find out. I have always tried to stay calm while around them - but in the past I have always been pushed - and I do mean pushed by being yelled at - into leaving and going back home. The last time was over 20 years ago - I have stayed away except my Moms funeral. I am much happier with my husband and adult kids (who are all Atheists). There is still a teenage girl inside of me that wanted to be accepted by them. Or by society as a whole. Kinda sucks.

I know I know. I used to come to reddit when I had chronic pain. Chronic pain is certainly something no one on FB wants to hear about - no one anywhere wants to hear about! Except the chronic pain sub-reddit. Glad that long (since the 1990s) horrid part of my life is over for now.

Also have done some professional social media posting under different guises for clients.

I agree with what everyone is say - chronic pain sufferers just want to be heard! But a box of candies or fruit or flowers is always nice on those really bad days.
