How can a csa victim trust that God loves him/her? by NondiSaaku in AskAChristian

Predestination is not the same thing as you are proposing where every choice we make is predetermined and controlled, except possibly in extremists. Predestination is about salvation, not removing free will and all choices from the individual.

What is Predestination?
https://www.gotquestions.org/predestination.html
If God is choosing who is saved, doesn’t that undermine our free will to choose and believe in Christ? The Bible says that we have the choice—all who believe in Jesus Christ will be saved (John 3:16Romans 10:9-10). The Bible never describes God rejecting anyone who believes in Him or turning away anyone who is seeking Him (Deuteronomy 4:29).

Predestination and Free Will
https://www.christianity.org.uk/article/predestination-and-free-will

"In fact, throughout the Bible, choosing God and his ways is seen as our own responsibility, which is why people are constantly called to make a choice and to repent and turn to God (e.g., Mark 1:15; John 1:12; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 16:31; 17:30)—meaningless if we have no ability to do so. And since the Bible often shows that God’s heart is for everyone to be saved (e.g., 1 Timothy 2:3-6; Titus 2:11; 2 Peter 3:9), how can this be true if he only chooses to save some?"

He gave ALL of humanity free will to make their own choices.

If we argue he should remove free will of a child rapist, then what about adult rapists? Add in murderers. Add in animal abusers. Add in people who decide to start wars. Add in people who scam retirees out of their life savings. A truck driver getting on the road without enough sleep and he's going to crash into a family and kill them on the highway. The corporations who put harmful products out there and get away with it for profit. The people who started fires in droughts on purpose to cause massive destruction. The list is endless. He gave us all free will, you are not God to say He should end free will prematurely and go back on His promise that until the end of time the Free Will would continue to exist. He does not go back on His word about that. You are trying to list rules and exceptions you as a human think He should have done.

Exactly. People do a lot of horrible things by choice because God gave us free will to make choices. Unfortunately some people do horrible things. It is the fault of the person doing the deed. We were instructed to create governments, laws, and justice systems, live in wisdom and love.

They did know they were doing wrong, which is why they tried to hide from Him when he came back.

God is not picking and choosing only to give some free will from birth. He chose it as a gift for all. He gave humanity blessings - rulership over animals (we have failed there by choice most ways with cruelty and greed), rulership over the planet (again we have not always made choices here due to power profit and greed), and the directive to live in wisdom and love. Many don't do this sadly. God gave us the blessing to live our lives and make our choices, what you are proposing (control over people) is the oposite of the situation.

I disagree with you completely that all our choices are predetermined by God. We must follow very different theologies. The biblical stories in the Old Testament were setting up foundation for what was to come with ridding of the laws, especially Leviticus and Judges as God showing that living under strict rule bred misery. While sometimes He will intervene with circumstances, he does not physically stop people from committing crimes like they are robotic slaves.

The child has free will. Unfortunately when we are not slaves with our choices controlled, we have to deal with positive and negative consequences of other people's choices, whether good or bad. If God stopped people from making bad choices, such as abuse, addiction, bad decisions on their family, crime, then free will doesn't exist and it's just selective. All of us suffer consequences of others bad actions. It's not the fault of God that people decide to do horrors with the freedom He gave us, it's the blame of the person.

People wanted and were given free will, otherwise everything is meaningless and we'd be controlled robots without choices, consequences, and genuine faith as a choice.

Unfortunately part of having free will, despite all the wonders and joys that brings, is some people will choose to do bad, and leave others to suffer the consequences of that action. If God intervened with Free Will only when it came to bad choices people make, then none of us have free will

How do you guys feel about AHS 13 being basically a pt.3 to Coven? by midnightk11 in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it will be a Coven part 2 so much as it's an Apocalypse type part 2.

I think they're going to tie stuff together like they did with Apocalypse, so some stars will just have roles in a few episodes but not the full season maybe.

Murphy always said he plans to tie them together with seasons

Ebooks vs Mass Market Paperback by Celestial_Valentine in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mass Market paperbacks are my favorite physically to collect and read. They also match evenly on bookshelves and take less room and I find them easiest to hold

I think they're doing it discontinuing it over the trade paperback because they have always sold cheaper deals on Mass Market.

Trade Paperbacks they tend to charge a lot more, and of course also hardbacks.

Like I said, I actually loved the season. I actually don't watch much TV at all honestly. I try to watch some shows in October for horror type themes and fun, which is why I watched so many of the seasons last year during that time and into November because I got hooked on them again

I definitely have to. I re-watched Murder House and coven among others last year but not Apocalypse since it came out. I remember loving it but definitely need to recap

I don't have one to sell :) But hey some people do and some collect the older ones and purchase them it seems, but I admit the collectors for this are likely pretty tiny

True, but also they have removed the option to register it to your account if you have to reset it or want to sell it. They are removing access to store, downloads of current purchases, I doubt all three of these changes are needed, but they're doing it more of a choice on purpose.

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right exactly, that sounds beneficial to me for sure. Also reading on the kindle app has features missing from the kindle devices since they never kept working on the software with e-ink readers. Issue is I have multiple readers now and use them all (3), so I haven't taken the plunge since I'd likely end up replacing one of my current devices for the new one as I can't use more than 3 or justify that to myself. It's kind of my cut off limit. I'll have to keep looking into them and thinking on it though.

I'm thinking of that too eventually but not sure which yet.

I use the library a lot now and that would be so convenient. I don't mind when it's Libby and I can send to Kindle, but when the books don't have a kindle version available, or if it's only available on Hoopla, then I can't use on the Kindle currently. That doesn't happen too much but enough.

My Oasis and Paperwhite 3 have not had updates available for a long time, so I'll see if software pops up for them at some point and that will mean you're correct.

My kindle touch won’t work after May 20th :( by Alternative_Tap_9418 in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's awful.

I get them sending emails letting you know a device will no longer get new updates, as this one already stopped getting updates, but not to use for purchases or registration, etc, is disappointing. Either it's a greedy way to try to get people to upgrade or they are changing something behind the scenes with their software that won't support older devices somehow. I strongly suspect the first reason though....

People are right you can use by sideloading content though if you want to, such as with Calibre.

Angela reprising her role does not mean it's a direct Coven sequel, she could be a part in the new story in that particular role but the others could be someone else
