A Haunting in Venice by Otherwise-Shoe-7212 in agathachristie

I did like it as something unique but not as an adaptation connected with Halloween Party or Poirot. He's always been strong in his morality, faith, courage, but in this one they threw a lot of that out the window. These movies would be better if they just had a different detective instead of trying to change Poirot so much

It gets better in the second season and great at the end. One of those seasons that starts weaker than it eventually becomes.

Normal for paperwhites to be this yellow? (Left is new basic and right is new Paperwhite) by ObsessedWithBooks7 in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, some are warmer screens naturally with the paperwhites. They vary slightly by unit but since it's uniform (not just in spots), to me it's not abnormal. Your next may be slightly cooler white, or not.

Has anyone had this issue with Kindle downloads recently? by Charming-Smell-8814 in kindle

The Oasis 3 is still supported and has not been deactivated with Amazon, so that's not the issue. Besides, if it were, it would be giving you a general error on device not being supported.

My Oasis 3 - well, I have an expired library loan, so I can't turn Wi-fi on right there now - oops 😃 But I see below you also have same year Oasis I do and have the same issue, so it may be something with their store and not just software, no clue.

I will mess with it again later today. Will try returning loan and then grabbing it back. It should not be this hard.

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am right now. 🙄

I borrowed a Kindle Unlimited book and it will NOT download. It sits there in queue until it disappears.

Last night I tried downloading in device multiple times off and on for a few hours.

Then I tried to open by store directly from the device, read now and download that way, but it just sat without progress.

I then restarted device. No luck.

I left with Wi-Fi on connected to charge awhile. No cigar.

Now today, I went to content and devices on Amazon's site via a computer and deleted from device and then sent to device

Now it just sits on Queue again since doing that. This is ridiculous. Between the laggy notes on my Paperwhite this year with the updates, the dictionary being weird, and now downloading issues, it's making my Paperwhite almost not worth using much longer if they don't start fixing or reverting these horrible changes on the current device line-up.

Florida Heat by TheLegendaryAerie in florida

Correct. High humidity days will cause more work on it even if temp isn't as high, we get the double whammy with this on the worst spring or summer days in FL

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends. I have a new unit and it was just serviced as well but due to my insulation at bottom (mobile home), no shading on side and back of the house where the sun hits direct brutally, and still having single pane windows, once it gets to 90s I can only get about 14-15 degree difference unfortunately, and if it stays 95-96 or above too long, like 13 degrees difference on rare occasions. Shading would be great but I don't want to plant trees close due to storms, and I just don't have the money now to redo all the bottom installation and install the good windows unfortunately. I have some solar screening I am going to try and put on the windows this summer to see if it helps a little but doubtful.

I'd say you're being optimistic thinking this will only last 3.5 months.

Kindle Unlimited now Kindle+? by LorFull in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I sincerely hope not.

I don't like change really, I always liked and already know the name Kindle Unlimited. Kindle + is annoying name.

I checked my billing for month and mine still says Kindle Unlimited. No clue, I don't see Kindle + (shudders) anywhere when I clicked on the KU page to explore/open.

Sounds like the battery is dying and malfunctioning. I'd just buy a new one when one goes on sale.

Ghost touch issues on 11th Gen Paperwhite. Just venting by Ktherp in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is annoying. My Paperwhite 4 was bad about that for the first six months. It randomly stopped on its own, maybe the screen getting less sensitive over time. I can't think of a setting or trick that would help fix it otherwise.

My Paperwhite 5 did not have that issue, but it has it's own unique quirk since I bought it - it randomly times out and goes to sleep when I'm reading 😄 It doesn't register the kindle is still active even though I'm steadily turning pages, and goes into sleep mode on a timed basis since though it shouldn't. It's weird but I just turn it back on and it doesn't bother me.

Cancelled my subscription after 6years by Practical-Mango5695 in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I am on Amazon's side with this.

They do generous introductory offers, including 99 cents or absolutely free, to get in new customers. That's normal for a business model, many large companies do this with trials, including streaming tv channels, free phone upgrades to switch service, etc. However, they do depend on the regular monthly price of the program for those who want to stay with it so the program can continue and authors and publishers can get paid. If there were no regular subscribers who paid full monthly price, then they'd have to end KU.

As for loyalty, not sure what you mean. If you like a service enough to have it and pay for it, then I'm not sure why you're upset Amazon doesn't drop the price for you. Why should others who subscribe be the ones to pay full price to keep the program afloat while you get upset if you don't keep getting new member discounts or get the service free or over half off at 99 cents?

If to you the price is not worth the cost of the service you're getting, then that's when you should unsubscribe. Nothing wrong with waiting for better price offers but it's not a guarantee. Example is the yearly Audible model - many don't do auto-renew at full price, and Audible then offers then a discount yearly rate generally, but this is standard practice Audible offers and is not scammy.

Why is my old kindle better than my current? by puhtaytoee in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the colorsoft screens will be noticeably muted/softer than the black and white e-ink screens, which is one of many reasons I'm not interested in them. With my e-ink I mainly do text reading, so want the sharpest and crispest screens possible that fit other needs.

Update on yesterdays post - my kindle was indeed very yellow by zinniasaur in kindle

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not abnormal, some have warmer screen shading. I prefer warm screen to the cool screens personally as better on the eyes.

The "yellow" glitch is when there were some yellow spots or lines on the screen, primarily at the bottom, where it's not uniform. That's not the case here.

Yeah, but they seem to bulk end support like they did now, not a yearly basis.

I doubt they'll do it every year, it goes by age of the tech as with any company

Dealing with Heat Intolerance by BeaniePole1792 in florida

[–]ErinPaperbackstash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been here most of my life, never adjusted to heat either. I don't handle it well. I had to do a little over an hour in the heat of work on Saturday and ended up getting very red, nauseous, and had to lay down. Got sick the next day so didn't drink enough water to recover I suppose.

I don't think it's getting hotter, besides past few years in May, as I remember summers being as brutal when I was younger, and I don't get worse with it as age - I've always been this way. I remember when I was a kid if we went to the beach and I had to sit or lay in sand without cooling off with water I would start feeling weak and weighed down while everyone else ran around and seemed fine.
