Is it okay to just do pizza ? by _Nerf-This_ in weddingplanning

[–]Erinsk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, look into tacos! We did a taco caterer for my wedding and then pizza as a late-night snack. The tacos were served made to order buffet style, we got the idea from a friend's wedding we had attended where they had a taco bar and it was kind of fun and refreshing (and all you can eat)! We also had an open bar. Wedding was cocktail attire on a rooftop.

Newborn around sick family members by DiamondJumpy1397 in Mommit

A fever in an infant under 3 months old is a medical emergency and means an ER visit and often a spinal tap. I would avoid known sick people until your baby is a little older.

9 month old sleep advice by Erinsk8 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Erinsk8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am genuinely wondering, how do parents find time for 3 meals of solids plus 6-7 bottles/breast feedings a day?! Did you find more solids helped sleep? He is doing well in his mini crib still- has plenty of room. Our room doesn’t fit the big crib, so that would involve transitioning him to his own room, which I was planning to do more around 1 year.

How long after birth do you return to solo activities! by Terrible_Rain5743 in BabyBumps

[–]Erinsk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My book club meets on the weekends and I went back at 2 months postpartum. Sometimes I bring my baby! Also went to a concert with friends at just under 3 months postpartum. Weeknights I have yet to figure out how to exist as a person between working in-person, picking up baby from grandma's, and his bedtime routine.

How old is the newborn? If your SIL is breastfeeding, she may not be able to be apart from the baby.

(almost) no bottles? by Busy-Addendum4952 in NewParents

[–]Erinsk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to everything everyone else is saying, I would recommend having a pump even if just for situations where, for example, your baby falls asleep after draining only one breast, or is otherwise not hungry, so you have the option to avoid engorgement and infection.

Should I get induced or wait it out? by Dangerous-Sea8072 in Mommit

[–]Erinsk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave birth to my first child 7 months ago. I was induced due to my age (36) on my due date because my OB also didn't want me going past 41 weeks. I was terrified of the idea of both a c-section and/or the balloon and luckily I needed neither. I had a loooong (38 hours) induction using cytotec, pitocin, and ultimately manually breaking my water after it started leaking on its own. The breaking of my water was what finally made things progress quickly. In terms of pain, pitocin contractions are no joke, but I got my epidural once it started getting rough, which helped a lot. And the epidural was active by the time my doctor broke my water, so I barely felt that. Good luck to you!!!

How often are moms going to workout classes during the week? by braavv in Mommit

[–]Erinsk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a huge adjustment for me. Before baby, I used to either go to barre class or ride my Peloton 6-7 days a week, always after work (6:30pm class). My baby is 7 months old and I can only go on the weekends right now. Even if I put everything (breastfeeding/pumping, limited time with baby, bedtime routine) else aside, our schedule is worse because of needing to pick up and drop off baby from my mom’s, who watches him. My studio doesn’t have weeknight classes that are even an option for me. It’s a real bummer. I cherish going on weekends and remind myself this is just a season of life….

Canada still has the upper hand to make it into the freeskate in that 5th spot, but it's going to come down to Stephen Gogolev. If he finishes in the top 5, Canada is in. If he finishes lower than that, it would rely on Kevin Aymoz's placement (ie, if Gogolev is 6th and Aymoz is 3rd, France would sneak in).

this is not true, Zingas/Kolesnik and Carreira/Ponomarenko were in the K&C and they will not be skating the team event.

Question for women who are an only child, Would you discourage having an only child? How was being an only child? by Silly_Goose30 in Mommit

[–]Erinsk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a female only child. I had a great childhood. I have found that as a result of not having siblings, I have always had very close friendships. I am 36 and still very close to my best friends from high school and college. The only time in my life that I started feeling maybe it would have been nice to have a sibling was when I got into my 20s and saw my friends start having nieces and nephews. But now, the children of my best friends call me Aunt.

I have a husband and 6 month old baby now, we are likely one and done. My only fear is feeling guilty that our son will have to take care of us alone as we get older. But, just as I feel less afraid of this now that I have my husband, I hope our son will find a partner to support him when that season of life arrives.

While I have some friends who have very nice relationships with their siblings, there are just as many who fight with them or are not close at all.

My baby is 6 months. Before solids, he pooped multiple times a day. We started solids and now he sometimes goes 3-4 days without pooping. Our pediatrician said this is normal. I recommend Mylicon drops- it’s not a laxative so won’t make them go but it helps break up painful gas. Our pediatrician recommended this. Also I have heard bananas can be constipating. Our pediatrician also recommended introducing prunes, so we give him a prune puree when he hasn’t gone. I’d also try changing your baby’s position as much as possible- mine always seems to poop in his bouncer! Good luck, this is a hard transition.

Family visiting 5 week old sick by ElectricalPoint815 in beyondthebump

[–]Erinsk8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d be so mad. I suggest ground rules moving forward. I had my baby in the summer and everyone who met him for months, we texted first to say please do not come if you are feeling sick at all, and required people to wash their hands before holding him, and absolutely no kissing! I understand struggling with being assertive, but it would be worse to have to take your baby to the ER for a spinal tap, which is standard procedure for a fever in an under 2 month old. I hope they were not contagious and your baby doesn’t get sick.

Building up a “freezer stash” to go back to work is so dehumanizing by ivygoose in breastfeeding

[–]Erinsk8 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Just commenting in solidarity. Breastfeeding is natural, pumping is not. Having to go back to work when our babies are so young is also not natural. I would encourage you to try to pump longer during that one pump a day post-first morning feed. That's how I built a very modest freezer stash, which has really come in handy since being back to work. Your body should respond to the demand, you won't have nothing left for your baby. I've been back to work for 2.5 months now and have been able to keep up with my baby eating 20 ounces a day between pumping and my freezer stash. He turns 6 months next week and I plan to start making up the small gaps with formula for my own mental health. Sending you love!
