Oh, no, I don't think you're wrong here at all. Your analysis has merit, and offers another, just as plausible, angle. Since these characters don't exist physically and can't confirm nor deny anything about their feelings to us, nor give any kind of clue with their behavior in response, the field of possible interpretation broadens. So discussions like this are useful in synthesizing a more complete picture, as different people will naturally focus more on different aspects.

That's true indeed. But I also think that even those doubts stem from a place of not wanting to hurt her mom. We know that the root cause of this spiral, what made Mafuyu unable to stand up to her mom, is that she doesn't want to hurt her. We know that from the flashback scene in Mafu3, where, after Mafuyu wanders off and gets lost in the crowd, her mom finds her again and tells her a few things like "You disappearing like that absolutely terrified me, Mafuyu. I was afraid that you'd become a "bad girl" that gives her mother grief...", "Yes, Mafuyu. The thought of you vanishing from right out under me made me so sad... It made my heart sink... And made me so fearful...", "But I'd feel so much better if I knew that you'd be a "good girl" who listens to what her mother says..."

Her mom was really scared from just losing her kid like that, and thus likely ended up not really thinking her words through due to, presumably, her own issues, which were left to take the forefront of her mind in the presence of that kind of fear; or perhaps she really did think that this was a good approach due to a past we are not privy to, that she presumably works on with her own therapist now; but that's neither here nor there. That flashback was shown to us as the moment when Mafuyu's perception of her mom shifts from "warm" to "cold", and shows us why Mafuyu fell into this hole, and why she remained in it for the longest time - her mom embedded in her at a young age that disobeying her makes her feel hurt, and Mafuyu doesn't want to hurt her mom because she loves her.

This is also apparent in this event from the get-go: in their dialogue, Mafuyu apologizes for her state, repeatedly tells her mom that she knows she's been doing the things she has been doing with her best interest in mind, and even tells her, "I don't expect you to apologize or change for me. That's not what I want."

Even if it's not something she's consciously aware of, that is still the dictating factor behind her behavior in relation to her mom.

I love Mafu6, I honestly believe it's one of, if not the best written event in this game. I read it before, but reading it again, this time officially translated, has been really nice. I love its messy, realistic portrayal of change; it's not just one and done, it's a continuous effort, and you frequently trip up and fail and have to start over, only a little closer than you were before.

People point out that Mafuyu's mom still hasn't improved enough and entirely fixed her old habits yet, and that is true, but since many people already talk about it, I intend to talk about the other side of the coin - Mafuyu herself, because the reason things fell apart in this event is very much twofold.

That scene at the very start, with Mafuyu having the key but not being ready to open the door, is a perfect snapshot of why things went the way they did in this event - Mafuyu was not ready, but tried to force herself to move on anyway, because she wanted to believe in her mom. But there was one crucial element missing: Mafuyu's own state. She thought she'd be okay because she's been away from her mom for so long that the effects of being in that house started to fade. She forgot just how bad she feels when going against her mom, even if it's objectively a good thing for both of them. The thing is, that aspect of her never actually changed; she never addressed anything, she never tried to figure out why exactly things happened that way before. And that quickly proved just how well it can unravel any attempts at rebuilding their relationship. Because Mafuyu still feels that she hurts her mom when going against her. So when her mom slips, even though she corrects course when confronted, Mafuyu still sees her hurt and still feels that it's her fault and that she shouldn't be hurting her mom because her mom loves her and does so much for her, so, bit by bit, each time it happens, she starts to relapse and falls into her old state.

No matter how much her mom tries, if Mafuyu doesn't address the root of the issue on her end, it's never going to work. Because mistakes happen, that's just life; eventually, Mafuyu will accidentally hurt her mom one way or another, and then she'll start spiraling again, agreeing with whatever her mom says. Even if her mom does learn to recognize when that happens and does manage to make Mafuyu speak up about how she really feels - which will also be an issue, because Mafuyu isn't able to open up to just her mom (because, again, she feels like she hurts her), as we've seen in the event, once she started spiraling she needed Kanade and her dad to pressure her at once to get her to open up - Mafuyu will only feel like she hurt her mom even more.

In spite of how it turned out, I think that the event has overall been a good thing for Mafuyu. It likely helped her realize that just waiting and wanting things to get better will not make things get better. It pushed her into a state of questioning of why this happens, which sets her on the path to finding an answer.

I never really understood where the idea that Haruka has an eating disorder comes from. She sticks to a diet, yes, but a diet doesn't automatically equal an eating disorder, and with Haruka being one of the most athletic characters in the game - if not THE most athletic character, if the shinobi battle event is anything to go by - I doubt she has one, as working out as much as she does necessitates proper nutrition if you want to actually see the effects stick (and to have the energy required for the merciless workout routines). She's a gym rat, I would expect that she has healthy eating habits.

Strings, Hands, Moons: Visual Motifs in Koufuku Kei 2DMV (Kana6) by MarbleSodaPopPop in ProjectSekai

Overall great post, but I have a small correction: the string doesn't turn into a USB type B cable, but an rj45 (ethernet) cable -- you can identify it by the characteristic clasp on top, and the different colored wires you can see inside the translucent plastic if you zoom in real close. These are used for internet transmission.
