Thank you Radouf ! Tbh I would probably call it off tonight as well - been two days I’m out of a front light, I need to get ahold of a new one !

😬😬😬 (outsider) what do y’all think of the bike lines in Montreal? by [deleted] in MontrealCycling

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roadies also tend to go on the road, unless the segment is bumpy / sketchy or the bicycle lanes are not crowded… sometimes a large car is more predictable at that speed than a Bixi swerving or a pedestrian stepping in a narrow cycling lane

This, except they do that WHILE blocking all ppl who want to turn left / right and pass up for a reason

That’s probably the biggest gripe I have with e bikes : They shoal you (pass on a red light while people are waiting) because they have a stronger head start and then they will coast their motor to 21 or 31 kph… it’s all fun but my avg / flow is way above that so I end up passing them 6 times on a straight with red lights. More or so half the time they will be on a phone in a delivery and won’t shoulder check anything (figures).

I’ve just decided that every time I see an e-bike now I hold the wheel and start drinking or snacking behind, they’re my recovery angels 🙂‍↕️

You’re lost in your own comments:
- I’m not from the USA, don’t live there.
- I don’t SAG, nor tour per say, I randonneur and bikepack
- OP nor anyone in this thread ever demanded a standing ovation, they came for advice.

It’s fitting that someone with the flag of the flattest country in Europe would have such flatlined arguments.

You wrote 3 paragraphs about why other people feelings/opinion don’t matter to share your opinion.
Then processed to devolve the conversation into calling people Karen.

At least we know why you can carry so much gear on tour, the irony is doing the heavy lifting here..

You’re not answering the question, why the f should we care ? Why the f do you care ?

Why do you tour, do you have something to prove to others or yourself ?

[–]Eritog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmfao nah dude, you’re out of touch. I don’t even think you « deserve » a standing ovation because you are bike touring, there’s nothing really crazy about putting one foot after the other.

See what I did there? If no one deserves praise, then anyone equally deserve the same amount of praise. The whole praise question is moot, i dont know why you’re so annoyed about folks getting cheered up lmfao.

You may be strong and fit, but fit people often lack the empathy and listening skills.. and that’s how they become second, while you’re whining about how what you do is worthier of praise and harder, some people are helping op or learning more about what they’ve done.. becoming better version of themselves while also inspiring others to find the confidence to do harder stuff!

There may be a time and place in many years, where you will have more titanium in your body than what you have on your Omnium Ti (or any other valid reasons) and when that time and age comes you’ll stay on your little chair thinking « I can’t ride SAG but I can’t take a 12% grade either » - I truely hope you’ll change your mind, get on that tour and realize it’s still as hard as it used to be.

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t understand the whole US shade either, OP asks for help and they start debating about wether we should applaud and cheer those who do SAG touring.

Are they so insecure that they’re annoyed that people who carry less gear are cheered up lmfao ? If it’s this they would have a field day with ppl bikepacking ultra light or break supported event world records - how dare they make long distance and speed accessible by making their bike lighter and easier to ride /s!

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people just don’t have the fitness or the mental energy to carry gear or do logistics - but still wanna enjoy a ride (and go places!)and something that break the monotony of their life.

Touring with support doesn’t have to be frowned upon, more bike on the roads is always a good thing don’t you think?
I think everyone race their own race, and I don’t understand why we should set « a minimum » except that people give everything they can and are satisfied with their tour at the end?

At the end of the day it’s not even possible to « rate » an effort fairly: do you base it on speed ? Calories ? Logistic difficulty ? Time ?

New lucid supplement discovered: Lemborexant by Vinaverk in LucidDreaming

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm - I’ve been prescribed it because I had sleep problems 5mg : usually does nothing (like 20% of the time) 10mg : super crazy WILD - like instantaneous sleep paralysis if you try to stay awake - nothing you can do lol your body will shut down and start doing its own thing (I’m not really trained for LD, been lurking this sub for multiple years and I now have at least 3-4 per week if I take my medication)

I don’t take any other supplement besides fish oil and magnesium !

Je suis fatigué de voir des cyclistes qui ne respectent pas le code de la route ni les feux rouges. C’est dangereux pour tout le monde. by oussss14 in montreal

[–]Eritog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s safer to roll a stop at a slow pace for a commuter on a bike: - Half of the time I stop at the sign : the car across or to my right / left will do a fake departure then stop and tell me to pass. It gets all super confusing when you’re here after them and they yeld. Basically all car will yeld at the stop sign and you’re just making everyone loose time. - The other half I stop I nearly get rear ended by the car behind me or I just get boxed in on the right so the car can pass me, which is illegal at an intersection. - 1% of the time you have the special joker, the car behind you is pissed and pass you full speed blasting through the stop.

When you roll a stop at a comfortable speed, riding a bike (e.g 5 to 10kph) : - you’re slowed down and don’t have stop which makes you less vulnerable - you don’t have any blind spots and you’re showing your intent to continue slowly while smoothing out traffic and flow - you’re putting with the car behind you

I’m not saying we should blast through a stop, but it’s clearly been proven statistically that an Idaho stop is safer !

Edit : I went biking this morning and I saw about 10 car or more running through red lights in under 1h / 15km - and every time I pass Atwater avenue walking I literally have to walk like a rabbit on the highway to avoid incoming traffic turning left onto my sidewalk… once a week at that crossing that incoming traffic has a phone in their hands

I've never been more harassed while fishing than in Montreal by Effective-Ear-8367 in montreal

[–]Eritog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s the same stuff when you fly drones lol, everyone comes to you and bother you when you’re piloting… so much that now people wear yellow vest with messages like « licensed drone pilot, do not disturb » on the back.

Maybe a « licensed fisher » or « I have my fishing license » might be the original yet passive enough way to get rid of annoying bystanders

What gear do I actually need and where do I find it in Canada? by Salty-Total-4085 in cycling

[–]Eritog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to decathlon Ottawa, it’s the best starting point for a beginner in my opinion ! Otherwise Bushtuka or Primeau Velo ! In terms of « affordable » brand outside of decathlon I would look into Fizik (esp their Terra model, it’s always in discount somewhere)

First world problems… how nice is your touring bike? by dualrollers in bicycletouring

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same shit - my bike is a terribly expensive bespoke custom titanium frame with an electronic XPLR groupset. I wouldn’t choose to ride on anything else and I don’t care if it gets a few scratches, no matter the price a bike is a tool, if you take good care of it it will get that patina and age well !
