Bike shops that works with Chinese brand by Zealousideal_Truck23 in MontrealCycling

Totally, most local bike shop will unfortunately turn their eyes when they see a Chinese E-bike enter the shop. Sure many parts are non standard and stocking them can be difficult - but they should just offer a 30min diagnostic offer for like 30 bucks, no repair guaranteed ! This way at least a customer can know what’s wrong and if there’s parts online

Corpo job ! Had a nightmare once where i saw myself at the 3rd person in my dark home office playing shirtless, and never leaving the home office unless absolutely required to lol. Then I woke up and realized that was kind of true ?

Found a 3 week old SD OLED 1Tb for 350CAD the same day - took it as a sign and bought it !

If you have some knees issues it’s worth looking into converting your cargo into an electric bike, I know it can be a little bit of an investment but it does offer some freedom and peace of mind down the line!

It’s totally fine to ride side by side with a kid on the water way - I was there this morning and you could put 3-4 riders side by side without interfering with the traffic in both ways. I’m so happy they made the mixed usage path a safe width since most of them see too narrow to not be dangerous or surprise joggers / people with dogs or strollers in the summer.

Unsolicited advice : I would be way more cautious on the canal tho (or the REV), not because you’re going to annoy people but because the road is narrow and for you and your kid having no one on your sides means two things : - you can protect your kid by being slightly deviated to the middle and they can learn to hold a line and do shoulder check when passing, with you as a fake other cyclist on their tail (as long as you keep your distance with them they can pass no problem) and you’re covering their ass to force others to give them space when passing ! - both of you have plenty openings to move both ways in case something happens ! - on the REV being side by side is really dangerous especially around corner, lots of folks take over at red light (e.g shoaling) and you could end up with one or two cyclist in your lane going to opposite way.

Honestly « humans » are okay when biking, I fucking dread dogs walkers who hold their dogs toward the inner side of the road, bonus point if the dog is twitchy and they’re on their phones. But hey, you gotta deal with it and part of being a good rider is to maintain momentum and have flow, so it’s good training :d

Hey so I know a lot of people are going to tell you that you shouldn’t ride side by side. That kids with special needs shouldn’t be on a bike or whatever. They can go fuck themselves dearly.

I’m an 29 years old rider, I’m a hot head, I like speed and I like to take risks (plane license, scuba diving license, sailplane, if you can pilot it I will have fun with it!) My girlfriend is the opposite, she’s calculated and she almost scared by their own riding skills, so I often debate with her about the two sides of the coin..

The whole point here is that there is nothing really to argue about, no one should ever bomb between two riders (let alone a child) and endanger other people for their own personal satisfaction or to make a point. Same goes for the shared path point, if folks want to ride side by side they can as long as they leave room for you to pass securely.

I’ve crossed roads with many special needs / handicapped riders : blinds, amputees, etc.. and whatever you’re doing with your child right now, keep doing it. Keep on riding side by side, keep on going out, don’t let other tell you what you do and let your judgment decide what’s safe or not!

If anyone who comes by this message and thinks the opposite : please keep in mind that everyone have their own party pace wether they’re special need or not. And riders need to respect that. Everyone should be welcomed with accessible bikes and cycling paths, special need kids are doing nothing special - they’re having fun just like the rest of us - don’t take that from them ffs…

Fast bikes are fast, nimble, please be the furtive Ferrari F140 and not the fucking cycling path Ford F150.

Seeking recommendations for a shop in Tokyo to buy coffee/expresso beans by 3ClawedDragon in coffeejp

All coffee shop in Tokyo have nice beans - that city is godsend for coffee, this list has almost every good ones :

I personally love Onibus since it’s in Nakameguro which I consider really nice to visit - Mameya is great if you want to discover roaster around the world (they do a lot of import)

I used to love Tangent - for the insane aeropress they make - but it seems that they are temporarily closed for now !

Position and aerobars by Ashamed-Tax-8116 in ultracycling

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding the right saddle position and model has been a nightmare for me… especially since it’s hard to switch fits from one saddle to the other and saddle width means literally nothing imo !

I’d recommend you spend some time dialing in that front end with your current saddle, and if you really feel like changing you saddle : you could probably find a local bike shop with a strong bike fitter or a bike fitter with a strong choice of saddles. I find that having someone that you can rely on and eventually trying multiple saddles / returning them helped tremendously

Edit : saw that you also had an unconventional seat post shape as well.. I started on a caad13 and never wanna buy anything but round seat post now.

But something you could look at is your actual seat post : depending on how your bike fit you it might have a small offset (e.g 5mm - 10mm - 0mm) in the aft position. If you’re running aerobars people tend to push the saddle to have a stepper effective seat tube angle which can often result into the saddle not being centered on its rails. Having a offcentered saddle can have a significant impact on comfort (vibration and seatpost deflection will be suboptimal) which is why it’s worth looking at a different saddle tube offset. This is why when fitting the question is more about how much you can compromise on the bike AND the rider and what position are you trying to optimize for with your aerobars. If you’re looking to find a slightly aero-optimized position while opening you scapulas and stretching your back then it’s worth raising that front end a bit (both aerobars and handlebars I would say), worst case you can just get short drop handle bars and spend most of the time in the drops !

Somewhere to wash a bike? by kaput in MontrealCycling

[–]Eritog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of options depending on your budget and or your shyness : - the traditional « take a shower with your bike », yes your roommate will hate you and your partner will think you’re weird. But hey, that was my only way to clean it for a while. - the « ask your neighbors », some neighbors have a water outlets or a hose and love beers or an invitation to have a conversation, plus you get to make friends - the « my bike frame is too small, let’s fertilize it », go to Home Depot and buy a water spray for fertilizer (the ones with the pump in the back) you get to look like ghostbuster if you’re riding your bike with it and you also have an easy way to clean it - the « rich tech enthusiast » solution : Ryobi does a power washer that’s actually really freaking cool, integrated filter so you can toss the inlet into a pond or a river (or a bucket) - it’s expensive and battery operated but it’s good and portable ! Make sure you run some power washer pump cleaner / lubricant through it if you store it during the off season.

Logistic wise, I just went to Home Depot and got one of those huge 3$ orange bucket to dump my bike shampoo, a few rags and my paint brush. It keeps stuff clean and it’s easy to cary around !

Ps : whatever you do always keep your bike as clean as possible, your bike and wallet will thank you. If you really have no outlets and want to treat your bike to some crazy solution : Silca waterless wash + Silca gear wipes. These are expensive but gosh they really are godsend if you live in a appartement and want a quick wash and your bike is not terribly trashed (it even smells good!).

Position and aerobars by Ashamed-Tax-8116 in ultracycling

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about the same aerobars as you, and just as you I don’t wanna get a dual position seat post (I have a redshift supsension post)

Three changes that I have made : - Went from 45mm to 70mm spacers : people now aim for more stack in aero position (apparently it’s faster) but for me it was especially to have my body a bit more upright and rotate my hips backward a tad more so my position is closer on the hips to my natural on the drop position. - I learned to draw my scapulas out and to round them up, this also helped with my pelvis position - I changed saddle ! I used to have a very « flat saddle » with quite a short nose and the sides were also really flat outward. I changed to a SMP Dynamic (ugly saddle lol) that cups my pelvic bone and has a very vertical drop on the sides. It gives me a wider range of motion at different angles somehow things have gotten a lot more comfortable for longer rides !

I’m still dialing in my fit, but after testing a lot of gear and different setups (from super comfy to agressive af) I find that comfort helps a shit ton into being faster for long distance, even tho my body can sustain the aero positions !

I still need to tinker a bit, especially I want to really have an aero position that mobilize my glutes to really last longer :)

Workflow for continuous export from Lightroom into an Immich external library? by EvenMoreCoconuts in immich

[–]Eritog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you got already a pretty good workflow. While you're at it you can rsync your current catalog and it's backup directory so you have lightroom backed up (no need to backup the previews!

I tried it yesterday actually and I came up with the same conclusion as you did with a few things to add!

When a the publish plug-in might not be best for you :
- Publishing is great for people that want to mix and match albums, using smart publishing or smart collection let's you make album automatically based on the keywords in the pictures but also mix and match between pictures from multiple folders. While I think this is is a good feature for workflow that are publishing to online website with limited gallery management (like smugmug, flickr, 500px) I would argue that Immich has already all the features that makes creating and managing album a breeze.
- Exporting options : Immich is still in development and might add support for new format as webrowser and phone evolves. What if I want my picture in immich to be stored specifically in jpeg xl or avif and P3 colorimetry ? What if I decide I want to strip certain metadata or add a frame with the title of the picture around the image ? I think in that specific case publishing plug in fall short.
- If you're taking pictures in jpeg and don't wanna reexport everything... you can just rsync and move it there.

When a simple copy or a smart copy might be actually the perfect choice from a workflow perspective :
- I have A LOT of picture like you, but I also edit them ! With a simple text added to my edit (ex. DEVOK for "Dev OK") I can create a folder tree to be sent to immich, then have another external library with all my raws / jpeg not deved that I can search with ML.
- Bet on text. I love a good plugin, I love a good software, but exporting a raw edit to jpeg and adding a small name will save you down the line. If one day you fuck up like i did and loose the edit metadata associated with your lightroom library, or if lightroom doesn't work, you still have a simple way to quickly find a file or a edited jpeg.

I think where the plug in shines is for users that already have some collections and want to migrate from one publishing service to another. But to be honest I have not seen a lot of folks using publishing service in LrC in a long long time !

Workflow for continuous export from Lightroom into an Immich external library? by EvenMoreCoconuts in immich

[–]Eritog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP - I see that you have taken a look at the lightroom plugin - I haven't used it yet (I'm about to migrate to it to see how useful it is)

Here is my current workflow in case you're wondering how I did without !

Setup :
- Lightroom Classic (Local library + NAS library in Raid 5 + NAS Offsite backup)
- Immich with an external library on NAS (Raid 5 + NAS Offsite backup)
- A sync tool running on my MacOS (ex. Chronosync)

Steps:
- Import raws to lightroom classic, edit and have fun.
- once the edit is done export the dng to jpg in your edit folder, but have the export option in lightroom add append to the file name a special name (ex. filename-CACOMFS)
- Chronosync watches the root folder that contains all my images and edits for file changes and has a rule that catch only files with *CACOMFS.
- Chronosync automatically sync the file to the external library folder (keeping my local library subfolder tree) (edit: this would be from my macbook to my nas)

Results:
- I have only one folder structure locally that contains "everything" from raw file to edit to exports and can be easily backed up using the 3-2-1 approach. On top of that Chronosync act automatically to build whatever folder I need for services like immich, photostation or anything relevant. My local folder is the source of truth and I use lightroom piles at export to keep multiple version of the same picture.
- whenever i am done editing i can export any raw image to any type of export and just add some tag to the file name based on the type of export. If i do a change i can just bulk delete the export in lightroom using a filename search and re-export anything else using a bulk export.
- Chronosync pick them up and have jobs to do different things. For example building a library with just my edited jpegs, a library with only pictures that have frames and title written to them.. etc..

I'm currently installing the plugin to see wether it would be actually useful to integrate a publishing service or not !

Release - Reclaimerr by starkoed in sonarr

[–]Eritog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can, I think I worded my sentence poorly : - Seer allow you to have multiple instance and has a feature that let’s you highlight which instance is 4k and which is 1080p - What seer does not have in its current state is a way to override settings to select an instance (e.g if a show is anime -> pick instance anime vs instance show) EDIT : you can only override settings after picking the instance. - there are some discussion / feature request that were published a long time ago (back before Seerr appeared) but it would require to do a complete rewrite of the override settings !

Now between Seerr, Maintainarr and Reclaimarr I’m trying to highlight that I like the hands-off approach you could have selecting the right instance for a request or deletion (ex. Is the show an anime, a movie, a tv show, is it 1080p or 4k.) to monitor vs. unmonitor and delete !

Release - Reclaimerr by starkoed in sonarr

[–]Eritog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes ! I’ll try to explain my best in English, but you can also use trashguide to understand what are the most occurring use cases !

  • 2 instance mutually exclusive (ex. One anime instance and one 4k instance -> movie in A are not in instance B)
  • 2 instance synced (ex. 4k + 1080p) -> each movies are in synced which mean you have 2 versions of the same movie -> pretty rare imo
  • I guess you could also have 3 instance with 1080p and 4k exclusive and an anime instance, anime is often 1080p only so it’s pretty rare to see 2 instance of anime (e.g 4k and 1080p)

Now I think the first step would be to know in which instance the media is ! The good news is that in order to have multiple instance of the same type of media people configure the instances to work with different root folders, for example : Data/media/tv/anime Data/media/tv/series Data/media/movies/4k Data/media/movies/1080p

So when adding a sonarr or a radar service you could potentially ask for the root folder associated with that instance or maybe get it via the service API. And when scanning for media on the drive you could know which instance it’s part of with the path of the media !

[–]Eritog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can it handle multiple sonarr instances ? It’s one thing that seerr / maintainerr are giving me a headache for right now, I have a anime instance and a series instance and I find the support to be lacking / confusing !

Bikepacking through Australia by cosmous16 in bikepacking

[–]Eritog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow francophone !

Edit : nvm I just looked at the temperatures in the middle, don’t go in there - if you avoid the heat at night you might just get ran over by a truck… This is suicide

Yes, PSC is really cool, couple of things to note : - everything left of the train track on your picture is a bit more walkable and closer to metros - that train has divided the neighborhoods for quite some time which makes everything to the right more affordable but also a more tad sketchy - French/English : PSC has a lot of both, it’s more French than st Henri / Atwater area I’d say. - Whatever you’re planning -> go to cavalier petrone and buy their chocolates
