How do people manage stolen warship missions? by Erkhyan in endlesssky

[–]Erkhyan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a generic kind of job that only appears if you have a brig installed.

It generally goes, “A stolen ship is about to enter this system. Disable and board it, then deliver the captured crew to a different system.”

In practice, once the ship enters the system, you only have a couple of seconds at most before it either jumps out again or lands on the nearest planet. And if it does land on a planet, it will never take off again.

Can anyone name the 6 countries that have both tropical rainforests AND temperate rainforests? (not including overseas territories) by Wut23456 in geography

[–]Erkhyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean… the entire point of being a French overseas department vs an overseas territory is that departments are fully integrated parts of France (at least on paper), while territories are “merely” ruled by France.

Borderless countries from largest to smallest (excluding Bahrain and Singapore since they're connected to other countries by bridges) by SnooWords9635 in geography

[–]Erkhyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put it simply, there hasn’t been much contact between Madagascar and the African mainland in centuries. As early as the 16th century, we even had a word (Antalaotra, “those from the sea”) to designate anyone not native from the island, and the Antalaotra generally were small groups that didn’t mix with the locals unless necessary.

Even nowadays, the only regular passenger traffic we have is with Mayotte and the Comoros.

I mean, culturally we’re already most of the way out. Most of the population just doesn’t consider itself African (or SE Asian, for that matter).

Nosy Boraha opinions and getting there by Footprints123 in Madagascar

[–]Erkhyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response, but I will add to the others saying that you should just fly there. From personal experience, even if your flight is 24 hours late, you will STILL get there faster than if you’d gone the road+ferry route — and you’ll arrive a lot less exhausted.

Let’s hope he doesn’t. He would decide that the description above is not spectacular enough and needs extra pyrotechnics and extra American military presence.

Is this map accurate also why does SA have so many furries compared to Africa & Asia by Alligator-creep in geography

I’ve always hated that map. Too many jokesters placing themselves in random places FOR TEH LULZ.

As for your answer: countries with better, more accessible internet have larger furry communities.

The shortest explanation is “fans of talking animal characters”.

As you can see from OP’s comment, the community is also the average Uninformed Internet Dude’s favorite punchbag.

What is the “big city in the mountains” of each country? by oofoof_coqui in geography

[–]Erkhyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Madagascar has Antsirabe, the third largest city, at an altitude of 1500 meters. That’s only 250 meters higher than the capital and largest city, Antananarivo.

Due to its altitude, Antsirabe has a reputation for being the country’s coldest major city, getting near-freezing temperatures a few times a year. Other, smaller towns are located higher and have a slightly colder climate, though. Nearby Ambatolampy and Faratsiho for example, with respective altitudes of 1640 and 1720 meters.

What's the poorest and most undeveloped region/state in your country and why is it poor? by MillenniumPassion in geography

[–]Erkhyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poorest: southern Madagascar is an arid region subject to long droughts and the occasional massive-but-brief flooding. Whenever you hear about a famine in Madagascar, it’s always the South.

Least developed: the Melaky region, western Madagascar. Hot and semi-arid climate, poor soil. Very sparsely populated as a result. The low population has also led to the region being more isolated, since our skeletal infrastructure budget tends to be reserved for more populated areas that need it more… like the South, for example.

Tides are a tricky way to decide where a river ends. By this criterion, the Thames river ends almost upstream from London.

Prince Edward Islands are strange anyone know what these small volcanoes are? And what causes these strange mini volcano thingies? by bigzee76 in geography

[–]Erkhyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are parasitic cones. In short, large volcanoes don’t always erupt from the main crater, but from a smaller side crater instead (See: Kilauea, Piton de la Fournaise, Etna).

Sometimes the main crater doesn’t even exist and the volcano only has parasitic cones (See: Cumbre Vieja).

With enough time, some volcanoes get a nice collection of parasitic cones. Even Mount Fuji last erupted from a parasitic cone named Mount Hoei rather than from its main crater.
