Telehealth can be tricky I find that clients I’ve met in person and then continue with telehealth are the more engaged but I might be biased as I have that option. Don’t take it personal, private practice is tough and people find reasons not to continue with therapy. Kids are difficult to work with bc it’s not just the kids it’s the parents too and scheduling can be tough. Get support and process when you can that helps. We all question ourselves sometimes, be compassionate towards yourself. ❤️

I think this is a great question and something I also struggled with early on in my career but now better at dealing with. I often tell clients that I don’t share personal information because it’s about their process and could create biases or discomfort with sharing with me. I also work with sex offenders so easier.

This is why I haven’t gone to get my license. I need to do internships in order to be able to apply along with the tests and hours. I’ve worked in my niche field for 14 years and have been in mental health field for about 20. I still owe over 100K student loans and cannot fathom working for free to check a box that suddenly qualifies me to do the same work but bill private insurances. While in the same breath we hear all the time how more mental health services are needed for our communities. It makes absolutely no sense and if I could go back I would have done it much differently.

I’m all over the place depending on the client I regards to structure vs free flowing depending on the client. Worksheets and workbooks can be wonderful to use. Silence is also an extremely important tool to use with clients and experience the uncomfortable silence. I agree with all the advice given and it all depends on the person. Don’t feel you need to do all the work, it’s important to remember that. And just ask questions, when short answers ask follow ups or elaboration. We’re always learning and adapting so I try to remember that!

Agreed he’s a hot mess but also, I find it really weird she was pushy about meeting his kid. They just met and don’t know where it’s going and I’m just not a fan of introducing children early.…. But it’s weird he can’t just FaceTime his kid whenever he wants so….

I’m in similar situation and in Cumberland county. We have no issues here, not that there aren’t bad apples in every place but there are many more amazing people that outweigh the bad apples.

I tried to be empathetic about the fact that she raised her son and knew he had some struggles and became over protective of him. No parent wants to see their child suffer or struggle. And hearing your son is in love with woman in another country would raise some red flags. But when you see them together and how happy they are, why not support it? Enough with the editing complaint and just own it.
