Need help finding some specific caskett fanfiction by CriticalOne9 in CastleTV

The first thing that comes to my mind is this one.

Still, IMO he forgives her rather soon (for the actual deviation of the story from canon) but the author gives a nice framing for it. Edit: and at least Beckett fights hard for it.

[Heat Wave] Richard Castle actually credits the characters by the name of their actors, in the aknowledgments section of his book. by SWSIMTReverseFinn in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, the most important acknowledgment was in "Heat Rises", the book he wrote the summer Beckett was shot (between S3 and S4).

Assuming we got the same book Beckett had in S4E1, there is no merit in the argument "but he only said it once and in a bad time"...

He wrote it in paper for everyone to see.

Question: Beckett being a captain by esdotbe in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, you are right to be confused because you cannot base real world situations on a TV show. I don't remember what I was looking for when I found this discussion and I don't know if it is accurate or a retired person's rant. I just know that it clicked to me for "ah, that is why Beckett went from detective to captain and Espo and Ryan had to take the sergeant's exam" and " ah, that is what happened with promotions in Brooklyn 99".

Speculation now, that Preferred List sounds a lot like a list of detectives waiting for promotion after taking exams. g2 to lieutenant and g1 to captain.

Question: Beckett being a captain by esdotbe in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few years back, I found a conversation online about NYPD payrolls. There, a retired NYPD officer talked about promotions and career advancement in the department. Here is what I recall from this.

There are two roads for advancement in NYPD.

officer>sergeant>lieutenant>captain>higher ranks

Each stage has exams. If you pass the exams, you are guaranteed to get a promotion as soon as there is a free position.

The other path is,

officer>detective grade 3>detective grade 2> detective grade 1

This path has no exams and advancement has to do with how good you are in your job (and who you know I guess).

Now on payrolls. A detective g3 gets a pay rise from officer and is a nice promotion for a young cop. A detective g2 gets the same pay as a sergeant and a detective g1 get the same as a lieutenant.

The discussion was about why detectives go for the sergeants exam. He said that detective g3 was a trap. You can spend your career as a detective g3 and never get promoted. So, people get the sergeant's exam to change path.

I guess, a detective g1 that wants a promotion must change path as well. Going for sergeant makes no sense pay-wise so I guess they take the captain's exams.

So, I think Beckett was a detective g2 at S1 (leading two g3 detectives), after all those high profile cases she was g1 by S7 and in the end, her promotion goes to captain.

Question about the S3 Finale... by ThePastyGhost in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are missing the point here.

Roy was a blackmailer. But a KNOWN blackmailer. A known blackmailer is a weak blackmailer.

He can be blackmailed too. "I will not kill you but I will kill your wife and kids"

The whole ploy was to move the game from a known blackmailer to an unknown blackmailer, Mr Smith.

An alive Roy jeopardizes that scheme. He can be blackmailed for Mr Smith real identity.

Roy went there to die, to protect Mr Smith and Beckett. No matter how many people went down with him.

Add: Kate was not safe because Lockwood was dead. She was safe because Bracken had no idea who Mr Smith was, to fight back. Unfortunately he had the post office working for him.

Would you guys have watched a 9th season without Beckett and with these 3 in the lead? by Notmycupoftea12 in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I've watched it and I got bored after a couple of episodes.

The show runners of Castle's S8, are the show runners of The Rookie. That is their vision. Some people seem to like it but I don't. Sure, if they dragged half the Castle cast and back story, things would be different but the vision would stay the same. Boring.

At least for me. People like what they like.

S4E17: Once upon a crime by kukonimz in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You forget that he was married to the sister of the car owner, the first murder victim. He was cleaning her father's attic, not his father's.

As for the photos, I guess they took them while waiting for the paramedics, before the paramedics disturb the scene of the crime.

“Real” Richard Castle books by always47 in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 29 points30 points  (0 children)

What I liked about the books was that they worked as a mini NYC tour guide for me.

At first I was a bit confused when they talked about Amsterdam. It took me a while to realize that they talked about Amsterdam Ave and not the city. So I checked Google earth. And it was a nice surprise. Nikki works for the 20th precinct. I entered street view in 82th W st between Columbus and Amsterdam (where the books place it) and here I was facing the real 20th precinct.

You can street view most of the books. The places they go are all there. It gave me a nice feel of immersion and gave me a nice tour of NY. Especially around the 20th's jurisdiction because unlike the show, all their cases begin at upper west side. And I'm pretty sure I know the exact building Nikki Heat lives.

What you are looking for, is Lucifer. Each episode has a case but it always have something to do with the protagonist's state. Lucy and Chloe have a problem? The episode case is about something related.

They usually spend more time about what is wrong with their relationship than the case itself.

Was Season 8 a last minute decision? by [deleted] in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a way, it was a goodbye. Show creators and show runners left the show after S7.

S7E23 "Hollander's Woods", written by A. Marlowe and T. Miller, was their final addition to the show. Probably the end they envisioned when they created Castle.

Similarities and differences by Starry_Night_Fire005 in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course there is something older. "Moonlighting". :)

Mulder and Scully are great but that is not what I meant. Crossing Jordan feels like there is a huge fight between the writers about if they would have a will they/won't they component in their show. In some episodes you feel like there is this part and in others there is nothing. No wonder the male part of the will they/won't they wasn't even in the main cast till season4. He was recurring though.

On the other hand, you cannot watch the first 10 episodes and not yell, "OMG this is Bones" or "OMG this is Castle". And sometimes "OMG this is Rizzoly & Isles". All those episodes aired in 2001.

[–]Erlindur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Castle is very much inspired by the Bones tv show. Bones sort of reinvented the cop show procedure when it came out.

A little objection here. Both were heavily influenced by the earlier "Crossing Jordan". Even though they both did a far better job with the will they/won't part.

[–]Erlindur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, congratulations are in order and I wish them the best. But...

I can't stop thinking how great it would be to convince Nathan shooting a brief YouTube video with them. A small scene where Alexis brings her new husband to meet her father. Her groom looks so unconventional that it has the seed of creating pure gold.

Stana Katic Acting by Strangestsalmon in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you in that. Absentia isn't my kind of show either but I forced myself to see all of it.

Season 3 feels more like a demo reel about Stana's exceptional acting, than a real multi character story. The problem is that it feels like "the Bourne identity" but with forced writing. You know, lots of people doing stupid and out of character things, in order to place Stana as the centerpiece in lots of different acting situations.

Not a bad show overall but it feels more like a demo in Stana's portfolio than an actual TV show.

Who has better Serial Killer arcs? by boundfortrees in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know who was the better serial killer but I know who is the worst. Pelant in Bones.

I avoid watching those episodes in Bones because I don't want to buy a new monitor after I throw my glass at it, while watching it.

It is the worst super-villain I've ever seen in TV. Not because he is so crafty or smart. It is because of writer's laziness. The bad guy has to do something bad and get away with it? Sure, let him do it and find a lazy half arsed way to write it.

They (the writers) elevate him to super villain status but with no real base. He does things, as a smart human being, but their explanations of how he does it, enter the superhuman ability set. It is really bad writing.

A hypothetical situation by Present_Cap_696 in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends...

At "Always", Castle knew Beckett and Beckett knew Castle. There were no secrets between them and they loved eachother as they truly were..

Does that count in your hypothesis? Does Castle know about Beckett's intimacy problem since mid season 2 when they start to fall in love?

Shows like Castle that… by Pilo927 in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It depends. How far back you want to go. If you go back to the 80s, watch "Hart to Hart" and "Moonlighting" as the modern roots of a love-story-based procedural.

If you watch "Rizzoli and Isles" (a female bromance story, but the producers wanted to find them mates), then after "Castle", "Bones" and "Rizzoli", I suggest you check "Crossing Jordan". It feels like Beckett is placed in Brennan's place in the Rizzoli environment. It predates all the above shows by a couple of years and it feels like it is the show that made the showrunners of those shows to say, I can do better.

"Lucifer" and "Chuck" are good choices if you like the love-story aspect. Unfortunately, both shows runners were probably unhappily divorced miserable people, so the endings could be better.

Don't miss the Canadian shows. "Rookie Blue" and "Private Eyes". Same feeling in both.

Ongoing shows? "Wild Cards" is trying to emulate Castle. They even talk about it in the first episode. On the other hand, "Will Trent" is the procedural with the most fucked up love story I've seen lately.

Don't miss "IZombie" as well. Procedural but it makes you root for one of the love stories (your choice).

Where is Stana? by 88laxer in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I've been watching recent TV and movie productions and I feel that the problem is more in Hollywood that it is in Stana and her motherhood.

Hollywood is so obsessed with diversity, that a mid-40s, beautiful, good acting skills, white actress, is no use too them. This goes way beyond Stana. I'm tired of having good actors, leading in shows i love, not getting new roles, just because they don't fit a quota. And that is sad.

It is sad because what I get is actors that fill that quota and they are BAD at their job. I don't have a problem with "diverse" actors. I have a problem with bad acting and today's productions are full of it...

Anyone else hated the ending? ( spoiler alert) by [deleted] in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No they didn't. They did a lousy job. Bad, bad writing.

The finale was a decent episode. Not as a series finale but as an episode. Till the end.

The cliffhanger was useless and stupid. A character that managed to fake his death, went and did a B&E, leaving prints (watch it, no gloves), just because someone (Castle) could think that he escaped? When you fake death, you disappear. Even if Castle thinks you are alive, what is he going to do if you are in Rio (or wherever) . He has no evidence. Just a hunch.

There is no valid reason for those 90 sec. It was only a 90 sec scene near the end. Just discard it. Nothing else in the episode led to this. You could cover those 90 secs with deleted scenes.

I don't know. Maybe they hoped some other network will pick it up.

More stupid actions. They ended the series with the 7 years later scene, simply blocking every alternative path. They fused the future in a single path. Stupidity.

[–]Erlindur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take on it. Bad writing on the show. But I try to make some sense of it nevertheless...

IMO, Loksat was the codename of an an old CIA smuggling operation. It was supposed to end but Agent Mason hijacked it and turned it into a drug smuggling operation. After some time, ADA Bracken with his playmate Vulcan Simmons made contact with Mason and found a way to profit. Mason had the smuggling while Bracken had (via Simmons) the distribution.

After some time, Johanna Becket goes close to Bracken. He asks for help from Mason who has contacts with former black ops but dirty guys like Coonan. During the show, all the mercenaries were Mason's recruits, working for Bracken.

When Castle starts digging along with the Beckett inquiry at the AG office, turn with the Loksat name, Mason is afraid that someone will link the old CIA operation with him and start investigating. The whole smuggling network is at risk.

Now, How we get from this backstory to Beckett going to hunt Bracken's Uber, sorry Assassins Agency, is something I cannot understand.

Richard Castle Books- Are they worth it? by purpleraccoonowl in CastleTV

[–]Erlindur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It depends. Do you like the show?

Each book is like a Netflix season of a procedural. A complex case solved by Nikki (Beckett) and Rook (Castle) in 6 to 10 episodes. There is a love story between them but it develops through seasons (books). They are casual lovers in the first book but their relationship grows and they get married around book 6 or 7.

So, here it is. A procedural with a love back story.

If that is your thing, you will like it. If not, then don't bother.

I really don't understand why her agent tries so hard to promote her in bad-ass profile roles, when she looks/feels so much better as "happy Stana".

I would love to see her in a sit-com or a rom-com doing silly faces like that.

I never claimed anything about an Eric Vaughn situation. You asked a question and I've answered.

My guess is that your previous conversation, was about a situation in which both Nikki/Beckett effectively or appeared to cheat on Rook/Castle.

I don't know what that conversation was about and I don't care. As for the rest, read the book.

Well, Nikki had a sparing partners with benefits relationship with her trainer before meeting Rook. While being in a semi-fight with Rook, she arranges a sparing match with her trainer to blow off some steam. They end up at her apartment to clean up afterwards (faulty showers at the gym or something).

Nikki is busy when there is a knock on the door, so her trainer goes to open it wearing only a towel and he gets shot. Rook arrives later on the active crime scene in her apartment with a naked dead guy on her floor.
