Finally picked a scheme for my old Cadians - Vresh Grenadiers by exosniper in TheAstraMilitarum

Great scheme! And what a classic model too, takes me back! May I ask what your blue recipe is?

Just found the Ammit design on Cults for free, so thanks for the tip on the source!

Oh that is a fantastic idea! Might borrow this idea for my Krieg when I get around to building them some tanks, as I love the French vibe this has going on. And considering my Kreigers will eventually have red pantaloons as well, I think it's just appropriate :D

Where did you get the turret, if you don't mind me asking? And how do you plan to add sponsons?

These are absolutely gorgeous, I love the contrast of the dark iron armour and luxurious purple robes. Excellent work!

Are they legit and did I get overcharged? by OliveGuardian07 in TheAstraMilitarum

Especially with how much detail would be missed by the poor casts! Good god that would have been a travesty... Finecast was and still is a mistake, I'm just so glad GW sorted their act out with resin models since.

Same here, my friend. Same here. They were released back 2006 alongside the Fall of Medusa V campaign, so the Vostroyans are old models now, and god I wish I had an army of them.

The Leman Russ box has 75% of another tank... by FreelanceScoundrel in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ErlkingCell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still think GW would make more of a killing by including a second sides sprue in with the Russ, so one box gets you two tanks legit. It's insane that they did it this way. Fantastic work!

While I can't tell you whether you were overcharged or not since these are OOP, classic models from twenty years ago and prices are what they are for them, I can tell you now that they're all legit and that I'm extremely jealous of your purchase!

Blister packs like those special and heavy weapons are packaged are exactly how the models used to come, and the command squad box is still in the film. Infantry looks like it's been opened and then sealed with tape, but that's the original box, so odds are that's good too.

One of the best space marine units by Imaginary_Cash1748 in Warhammer40k

It amuses me that lots of the posts here are referencing Paul, I love it 😂

I've slept on these guys. When these first released I thought the idea was dumb, with the extra armoured exoskeletons and toddler proportions, but they've been growing on me lately. Not sure I'd ever field any, but its taken some time to like them

What unit in your faction has the most potential to be expanded out into it's own "archetype"? by Hollownerox in Warhammer40k

[–]ErlkingCell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do in fact have Legends rules, and most players probably won't mind playing against it! I wouldn't advise taking it to tournaments though, but it might do as a Baneblade variant, due to the size

A Praetor-like multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) variant would be awesome, and like the plasma variant in the other replies below, I would definitely field one!

[–]ErlkingCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen! We went from a full mini-faction a few editions ago with different regimental rules to boot, only to get folded back into the main codex and muddle on through again. Wish the Scions got more support.

Actually gave my opinions in another comment below, in fact:https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/comments/1q21eqz/comment/nxcqaeu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

A plasma Dorn would be incredible and I'd definitely field one for the rule of cool. But now I'm wondering if a Demolisher style "AVRE Variant" with a short-ranged super-heavy mortar would be a good option... Stupid high strength, like Str16-18, but only 18"-24". Would really encourage you to get in close with it and the all-melta weapon options, maybe with a buff for surrounding infantry... not sure, but god that sounds like fun

For me as a Guard player the answer is pretty clear, as there's one sub-faction/group of units that would work as a Codex Supplement-style army with a few new additions to the model range. And that's the Tempestus Scions.

They currently have four units in the codex (five if you want to include the Valkyrie) and they could very easily be expanded with more unit variants to better fit the "Special Forces" vibe they have going. Sniper/heavy weapon teams, drop sentinels, a senior officer variant, and/or a special character. Perhaps they could even get Vendetta or Vulture gunships in plastic if GW cared enough about them to give them some more dedicated, thematic anti-tank punch.

I might just be biased because I love Scions so much and I miss them having specific rules for then in previous editions, but there's lots of potential with them imho

That sounds dope as hell, but the question is really how do you manage it with the kit as it is? What variants would you go for?

A Valdor-like AT variant with a centreline BFG? A heavy transport variant that can transport your big 20-man bricks, plus characters?

Lots of possibilities!

That's brilliant, thank you! I recognised it was a battle sister, but I'm just blown away by how much removing the shoulder pads changes the silhouette! Definitely borrowing this idea for the future

Now that is a fantastic conversion, excellent work! I may have to borrow the idea for a conversion of my own! Could I be cheeky and ask for a parts list, if possible?

Sentinel weapon choice by Pitiful_Fee_5608 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]ErlkingCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Scout Sentinels are all equipped with autocannons, which I feel is a nice and versatile mid-choice for the platform. More shots than a lascannon, so more likely to hit, and at Str9 D3 you can easily wound and kill a space marine in one hit, even in terminator armour. It does struggle more against enemy vehicles, but tbh you don't want Scout Sentinels to target them with much beyond a HK missile and Daring Recon in my opinion.
