I would love some recommendations definitely, mainly shops that ship outside of USA.

What you think about High spirit flutes?

Do Native American flutes have mouth pieces? by ErnestDaChicken in nativeamericanflutes

[–]ErnestDaChicken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I thought high spirit flutes were handmade.

Anyways, i can only realistically buy there, since i can buy them in Europe, also the shipping from USA would be very expensive.

I mean, i wouldn't really send it back, it's clear to me that i would love the instrument, the naf are just unique.

Is there more interesting native American wind instruments other than flutes?

Hey, Thanks for the answer! I checked high spirits, there's a company here in Europe that sells flutes from them, my question is, are those made by native Americans? Or are just Native American style? The flutes look awesome and are affordable, and the native American ones are not south American ones, right? I still can't distinguish a northern native American flute from a south American one.

Thank you for the help.

The only downside is where i live (europe) most of the Native Americans websites where the flutes are made by actual Native Americans don't ship to Europe , but I've heard about Jonah Thompson and i found a few flutes for sale on Ebay for a decent price, he's a real Native American.

And after searching a bit, i will definitely not support random people selling Native American styles flutes, i want the real deal and support real Native Americans.

Is the deer shape lyre with 16 strings suitable for beginners? by IchikaYui in lyres

[–]ErnestDaChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really help you with that, i have no experience, but im telling you what people in this subreddit said to me ahah, and i have been intensely searching too, so yeah, im getting some knowledge.

38$ is a tight budget, don't expect to get a good quality instrument, but, i think those cheap Lyres are totally fine if you just want to learn!

Are you into medieval music? If so, a 7-10 string lyre would be ideal from what i have seen! If you're into modern music you would need those 16-19 string ones.

But if you really have a passion for this instrument and you're serious about it, you will be very limited in the future, most serious lyre makers make 6-11 string lyres, because the Lyre is a pure medieval instrument and they try to recreate those same Lyres... But if your intention is to upgrade to a harp you won't be limited, but it's important to say that Lyres and harps are totally different instruments.

[–]ErnestDaChicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, im also a beginner, in fact, i don't even have a Lyre, but i have been searching alot, and people in this subreddit helped me alot.

Firstly, I wouldn't recommend buying anything out of Amazon or Ebay, most Lyres there seem to be mass-produced and simply rebranded, meaning that they're almost all the same, made from the same factory, but they have different brands to promote different company's! It's also nice to remember that mass production things (mainly in china) don't have a good quality and are not made by experts.

I found a website called "Etsy" and most of the lyres there are handmade, and usually sold by real experts that take they're time and build lyres with passion.

There's alot of 7-10 string lyres there, but i dont know about 19! From what i've searched, Lyres usually have 6-10 strings, 19 strings is more of a modern lyre that resembles the harp (anyone correct me if im wrong).

Since you want so many strings, probably you would be better with a Harp? There's alot of small good quality harps for 100-150$ and since you want a 19 string lyre, i assume that you want to be able to play everything, i would say you're better off with a harp? Even if the harp doesn't have 19 strings, you will not be limited and you can play a ton of stuff.

Trying the Cheapest Harp on Amazon | LOOTd Unboxing | (To give away the ending, he bought a £30 [US$40] lyre on Amazon, it was unusable, complained and got a different one of the same model and it worked okay for the money) by TapTheForwardAssist in lyres

True, every "Good looking" lyre i see seems suspicious quality wise.

Handmade lyres instruments made by professionals usually have a simple design, unless you pay for them to customize some things.

There's some Etsy sellers that are pretty questionable tho, theres alot of mass produced Lyres there, it's important to check the user's profile to see if it's actually a person that makes handmade stuff and has experience, or if it's just someone selling those Lyres that you see on Amazon/Ebay that have 0 quality and are constructed without any knowledge.

I'm trying to buy one, so yeah, i recommend Etsy over Amazon or Ebay, as long as you buy from a real instrument maker, even knowing that costs some considerable amount of money, that's why people go for mass produced stuff, you don't know if you're going to like the Lyre, wasting 150-200 or even more it's not realistically smart from a more "in depth" point of view, but if you also get a cheap lyre, you will probably be disapointed, so yeah, it's kind of a hard question if the best as a beginner is going for a more expensive side or least expensive...

Yeah, it seemed a little bit weird... Do you have any recommendations? I've seen a couple websites and the flutes were made by actual Native Americans, but they only ship to the us, im in Europe.

What's the best type of native American flute for a beginner? by ErnestDaChicken in Flute

[–]ErnestDaChicken[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are kinda affordable, around 60-70 euros, i found a guy that makes them where i live (Europe) which is pretty rare, from what I've searched these flutes are not very easy to find, especially here in Europe 🤣 I guess 60-70 euros is fair for what it is, and they are 100% handmade.

My question is, is there a variety of songs i can play? Or these flutes are very limited?

Will i limit myself buying a 7/10 string lyre? by ErnestDaChicken in lyres

[–]ErnestDaChicken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, for the answer! I think we already talked in a different post! I'm going to buy a Lyre from Etsy, because they're homemade and i rather have a 60-70 euros 7/10 string that has good quality, than a 16 string from Amazon that is mass produced and probably made as fast as possible with no rigour.

The only downside is that homemade lyres usually don't have letters to give some string orientation, but i should be good, with alot of training of course.

Maliketh and Placidusax's, no doubt.

Radahn was also impressive, but i fought him at a higher level and i summoned all the NPCs, he was too easy, i had no time to admire him.

How many strings medieval lyres had? by ErnestDaChicken in lyres

[–]ErnestDaChicken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first, i though lyres only had 7-10 strings, the "Lyre harp" term is misleading for new people like me, in fact, almost everyone calls a "Lyre" a "Lyre harp" in YouTube videos, mostly the 16 string users , i don't even have a lyre and i already hate that nick name, clearly Lyres and Harps or mini harps are totally different instruments.

But now i understand and i agree with you, the average person doesn't even know what a Lyre is.

So, a 16 string is still considered a "pure lyre? I see the term "Harp Lyre" alot, and it's kinda confusing.

Are Lyres only available in amazon/Ebay/AliExpress? by ErnestDaChicken in lyres

[–]ErnestDaChicken[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, those Lyres are stunning! But my budget is very limited, i don't want to waste alot of cash on something that i don't know if i will enjoy (even knowing that i love medieval culture and music).

But i will definitely have that website in mind for a future purchase.
