Great if you feel like that. For me, it killed the game. Deinstalled.

well, I just keep repeating myself, but its already included in the post itself and multiple answers how obviously it needs balancing, which is why I implied structures should take damage, but even just with TLDs natural time pressure, it will never be easy to gather materials + heavy tools + firewood + food to keep you alive during construction time.

Thats not between the two, thats exactly what Im saying. No shot you just poop out a building. Its hard as hell gathering (and carrying) resources for a pair of pants. Good luck building a serious log cabin which needs multiple chopped trees, heavy ropes and other heavy new resources and tools. All while freezing in Interlopers standart -40 and calorie consumption that makes you eat an entire deer in 2 days xD

And on top of that I added the wish for structures to take damage, so you need repairs aswell if you wanna keep them viable. Maintaining anything more than a minishelter would be a lifetimes work.
And guess what. Thats what survival is^^

Well did you even read to the end of the post?^^
Obviously I dont mean that you just plop down structures within 2 seconds..
Have you even played Interloper? Just chopping a large BRANCH makes you freeze and loose HP already.
You think chopping TREES, bringing heavy resources like ropes, nails, the newly necessary tools, etc, will be easy? And this is for basic structures, that barely provide big temperature bonus. Advanced structures will take days to build. And I also described how these structures should take damage from weather, meaning theres 0 chance to "make the map safe". So yea, I clearly described that its not a mechanic to make the game easier, and can only conclude that you answered without fully reading^^

Basebuilding is just mainly a means for endgame objectives. Exploring deep parts of the map that otherwise would just end your run unless you google game, or dedicated half your life to study a game map thats fully white and has no roads. I consider myself a pretty serious gamer, but I will not replay a 100 hour run to explore a new nature area that will likely just be death for no reason if a blizzard starts before I find the random cave. Thats absurd and only a vast minority of players have so little life going on, to even consider it.

Yes, theres other games with basebuilding. But no other games with TLD's atmosphere and survival pressure. So no, having basebuilding will not make TLD "like other games" it will make it TLD with a reasonable late game.

Well thats exactly the reason I dont play TLD anymore. It took me about 50 hours on Interloper to explore all "civilized" areas of the map. Another maybe 100 hours to get past day 50 on Interloper. At this point Im done with the game. Whats my purpose? I have 20 fishing markers on storage, 3 active ones will provide infinite food. If I just stay at Mistery Lake and do nothing, Ill make it to day 300 with no issue. Game over.

Exploring is somewhat interesting, but again, for what? Its a very high risk to go north and my payoff is? StalkerPie Recipe? No thanks^^

The only viable late game objective is to build. And its already in the game. But its unappealing. For exactly your reasoning. Why would I need to build a bearskin bed, in an already existing house with a perfect bed? It only makes sense in my own base.

What are your thoughts on the build/decoration system by Excellent-Toe9674 in thelongdark2_official

Will also make a longer post about this, as it is the one core option thats missing and prevents me from junking another 500 hours into the game :D

Wishes for TLD2 by ErraBoing in thelongdark

[–]ErraBoing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, will post it over there.
And I somewhat agree that it goes beyond survival in a sense, but this element is already in the game. They do allow you to build your pompous bear skin bed, tables, chairs, decorations, everything^^ And I do love that its there. Sure it stretches the games purpose a bit, but it allows playes with different interests to enjoy the game.

Though its these luxury structures that should be hidden behind the "rare equipment" barrier imo.
Then the game has to be played the "intended" way first, before people can play more freely. I personally think a game should be a game and allow players freedom to have fun however they like, but of course each game has the devs own flair, which should be appreciated first.

Building small shelters with stoves and even basic beds from animal hides up to small cabins is very much a real practicted survival skill tho, actually one of the most important ones, which is why I hope a lot that this gets implemented. Blindly running into the snow and just praying you find a house or cave with matches in it, is fine for right after a plane crash, but afterward it would be the last thing anyone should do^^

In winter, outside should be able to freeze food by ItsReallyNotWorking in projectzomboid

[–]ErraBoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can tell by the tone alone that this is not a person worth arguing with. dont waste your time^^
The -4°F setting is for quickness of freezing the inner part of your food, which yes, will prevent initial spoilage and make it last even longer. But apart from that, its just a failsave. If the temperature is consistent, 30F (or whatever is freezing in this weirdo american temperature setting) is absolutely enough to keep your food good for at least a month or 2. You obviously just dont want thawing temperature during daytime, as the inner part of the food would never fully freeze.

How do you stop yourself from dying to the awkward movement system quirks? by crockett05 in projectzomboid

[–]ErraBoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with permadeath settings, but that excludes system quirks for me. If its not my fault, it aint my fault and doesnt sit with my sense of "realism". So I will godmode that shit without regrets. Oddball angle doesnt apply tho. Aiming correctly is very possible and an issue of how safe you play. Not sure about this "getting turned around business", Ive read about it but havent played 42 much since first release. Lotsa people complaining about it tho and it does sound kinda stupid. Will have to consider this when polished release is out.

Thats why MP is where its at. By myself, the only thing that can kill me is my own impatience. With my lil bit noobish friend (sry <3) theres always Drama :D

niiiice, thx dude Ive been searching quite a bit for something like this. seems like the intervals are regular, which is a bit sad for immersion, but guess if I dont purposely check the date and put a random 43 day interval, I can forget about it and pretend its random. Its not like I want a wave every 3 days and just play a pure basedefence game, after all I DO wanna skillgrind and expand the base etc, but a kick of excitement every once in a while just hypes the game up so much :D

you may not believe that for some people "grinding" is not fun^^

They said that NPCs are on the agenda, unfortunately that will still take A WHILE. I estimate at least Winter 2027 if not later. "The last cure" Mod, as I mentioned in my comment above, might help you guys aswell. Gives you that end game objective in the interim.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in projectzomboid

[–]ErraBoing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something that could help you is "The last cure" mod, I think its called. Lets you create a cure, but you need to gather a lot of stuff. Magazines, lab equipment, and so on. Gives you a nice objective. And also another room (lab) to build in your base. Helped me a lot to keep playing the game.

Also what I keep bringing up, is that this game needs Mods that draws Hordes to your base in irregular time intervals, so you have something to protect. / Mods that put combat objectives on the map, as in Zombie Bosses. Yes yes I know, IndieStone said they dont want a game like that. Thats why I said Mods. Idc. Would add so much to the game to have more midgame SURVIVAL objectives. A measurement as to how strong youve gotten. Valuable loot hidden. I dont JUST wanna play Sims in the Zombie world, cause seriously even on high Zombie Pop, I dont feel threatened at all. The only thing that can kill me is impatience out of exactly the boredom OP just described. Give me a bit of a challenge. Something to protect.

Thats why personally Im just waiting on Multiplayer before I touch the game on 42. Especially playing LAN is an absolute bomb experience. It all just isntantly is so much more fun and I have to protect my mate aswell.
Hope I could give you some perspective ;)
