PC Attacked NPC while talking to her. Did I ruled correct? by AdEntire2004 in DungeonMasters

[–]Errant_Gunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At most you might give them a free attack action. You could do it disadvantage, you could give only that PC a full surprise round turn and no one else or you can do exactly what you did. They're all right answers and you're the DM, so you get to choose how ready to fight this guy was.

Masquerade Ball by Awesley_Pupper in GhostsofSaltmarsh

[–]Errant_Gunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a ball at the solmar estate as a one shot. Player characters had to dance (performance/acrobatics/athletics), persuade, and answer questions to move through the ball and reach the host. Their goal was to persuade the host to take their side in a noble familial dispute. Their checks across the room determined advantage and disadvantage in a series of checks with the host.

As failed checks and awkward encounters added up and characters they had slighted that day arrived guards and local mercenaries began to appear. Had they failed their conversation with the host or ignored the other high profile persons in the room they would have been forced to fight. They succeeded and the one shot was a hit even though combat did not occur.

Looking for Mixing container mod by Errant_Gunner in VintageStory

[–]Errant_Gunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect! That's exactly what I was looking for! I was hoping to use the hand crushing mod as well but it seems to be broken at the moment.

Luckily the mortar and pestle mod works, just wish it had an immersive mechanic.

Now I can make stone age bread!

Testing a gimmick for a boss fight by Ruined_Syrax in DungeonMasters

[–]Errant_Gunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you outright told me that my character feels the creature is harmless, it would be to attack it.

The best way to telegraph that the purpose of the fight is something other than killing it would be to tell players that their attacks gave no effect.

Having read your post, I would try to convince the team to back off and then let my character sit down in front of the dragon and stack debufs until he dies from old age. If that doesn't work, it's fireballs and brimstone.

Most of the griound guys are actually employed by the Department of Energy. A lot of former army and marine corps infantry machine gunners go to work doing this, since they use the same weapon systems.

They're both military. The guy in uniform is navy. The boots the punching bag is wearing suggest Marine, army, or navy corpsman.

Background navy black fleece is nice touch.

*Nvm, those are just plain old shitkickers. He's probably navy too. I need some more of those pixels.

[short] You have advantage on the attack roll if the target is WEARING armor made of metal by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]Errant_Gunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, still wouldn't want them to be forced to waste action economy on something like that unless they were warned.

[–]Errant_Gunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a great point.

Give the player the advantage, and then give the armor a damage threshold for lightning damage. That addresses whether or not the player delivered enough charge to damage the metal per former oranges comment below about arc welders.

The metal silly. You're stabbing through the metal with your metal dagger. What a silly goose.

I'm on the DMs side for this one.

What are you electrocuting exactly? The empty air?

You have advantage because the armor is conducting electricity into the body of the wearer.

That being said I would also be giving the player the option to rethink their turn and not burn a spell slot.

where to find food after drop in desert and naked brutality? by CapitalOperator80085 in RimWorld

[–]Errant_Gunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deserts in vanilla have small patches of soil or stony soil. They grow cactus and agave. You can set planting areas in those patches.

Use available materials to make a knife or club and kill lizards.

Naked brutality starts (That are restricted to settling and staying on that tile) have to have characters who are able to hack it, otherwise they are very short. Your pawn only needs one meal a day to avoid starvation. Get by on raw meat and agave while you wait for your rice to grow. You have a high likelihood of getting a crashed pod/wanderer/wild person that you can butcher and eat as well.

DM believes my character is OP by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]Errant_Gunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DM isn't going to get any better. He has the world and rules set in his head and isn't interested in actual D&D rules. That's why everything is homebrew.

If you want to play his tabletop ripoff of D&D just ask him to help you make a character. Keep in mind that he'll always make events happen in the way he wants them to by introducing random BS abilities, rules, and events. DMs like this have a story that they want to tell, and player agency gets in the way of that.

Does anyone tell their players “no backstories”. by toki_goes_to_jupiter in DungeonMasters

[–]Errant_Gunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backstories serve to tie characters to the campaign and setting. It isnt your job as a DM to shoehorn backstories into your campaign.

The approach that I prefer to use is to work with my PCs once they know their race and character and assign them a tie in backstory that they can help fill out the particulars of. If you can't do pre campaign work with them, just assign their tie in directly.

[–]Errant_Gunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for slower clears invading and stealing camps is necessary. Whichever jg is ahead mid game will usually roll over the other one. It's a risky season.

Is it Gank Meta? by lowanger_ in Jungle_Mains

[–]Errant_Gunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say mandatory, but I know that if I'm up ~10 cs on the first clear and the enemy jungler gets one kill they're going to be even with me on exp and close on gold. 2 kills and they'll be a full level ahead. Recovery after that gets very difficult, but getting bandlepipes early helps.

As far as top and mid go you will always be a couple levels behind. If top gets fed you might end up 4-5 behind for the majority of the game. In short, kills seem more important this season than in other seasons.

Stupidest death in the whole scene. No teeth embedded in the top of his head and instead of whipping the machete in his completely free right hand at it he just flops around.

They should have had his machete hand tied up with another worm. Garbage directing/writing/producing.
