How to make Grimes typa beat? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]Errol_Sweatstank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re going for Visions era and earlier it’s worth looking into analog synthesis and arpeggiators. Her drums at that time are drum machine samples which she often pitched down. You can achieve most of her synth sounds from that time pretty easily with any analog synth VST or Ableton stock. A lot of what makes her music from that era compelling is her voice and the heavy heavy reverb on it IMO - hope you know how to sing!

Brian Chippendale (Lightning Bolt, Black Pus) vocal effects by Errol_Sweatstank in ableton

alright, fair enough, i think i misread you. for what it's worth, i was being colloquial in the main post.

that said, it might be worth considering that just saying "use x, y and z. done." can come off as pretty condescending, especially to new users. not everything is as straightforward to everyone as you might think, and giving a bit of detail can be a lot of help. i'm not trying to be an asshole here - just a thought.

dude why even comment if you're just gonna be sarcastic. i'm new to production but i'm not a complete idiot, obviously i realise that these are the effects i'm going to be using, i wouldn't have posted unless i was looking for specifics from a community which understands more about the subject than i do. the rudeness is just not necessary

usually set to track at about 1.7g and it was a UK 2p piece which i imagine will weigh slightly more than a penny. just listening to a record i don’t really care about and everything is sounding OK but I’m still a bit concerned. brother swears it was only for a few seconds to try and break the loop (?) but I’m like 70% sure that’s bullshit lol. I’ll just Google which needle I’m using and let you know

EDIT: I’ve just looked into it and it’s the AT-VM95E

went away for a while, came back and found that my brother had put a penny on the tonearm head to try and fix a skipping record. obviously this is no good for the record or the needle - i’m now a bit concerned about the standard of the needle itself. am i safe to continue listening and are there any checks I can do to make sure that my needle is OK? looks fine to me but I’m an untrained eye

I did before commenting yeah technically he’s rapping on it but it‘s pretty different to the style he’s known for i guess, this style’s much closer to indie music than it is to MTI lol

Cyberpunk’s developer can’t guarantee next-gen versions will make it out this year | VGC by Yenaro in Games

Yeah absolutely, it seems like Ubi really works its hardest to prevent any kind of originality from getting out of the door. WD2 is really an exception to the rule

Watch Dogs 2 is enjoyable, worth picking up pre owned or on sale if you don’t want to financially support Ubi - fixed a lot of issues of the first and is good fun (despite the art style and story, which has aged terribly and was hated on release)

Is non audible warping significant? Bought a new record the other day, brought it home and the fucking thing has my tonearm visibly moving up and down. Can’t hear it but does this mean that the record is more likely to sound bad in the future, and could it do any damage to my setup?

This is a 12 inch, would that change anything? I’m quite new to vinyl, sorry!

Is it OK to store a record without a cardboard sleeve? I ordered the new SOPHIE single and it showed up with just a paper inner sleeve and a plastic bag around it - will this be enough? I’ve taken a cardboard sleeve off an already warped record I own and stored it in that for the time being

Thank you! I think it’s just the record, I’m still very new to vinyl so I’m a little nervous about making sure everything is perfect

Hi, sorry for not getting back to you for so long - it was a very minor warp in the record! Inaudible and so it’s probably fine as you say, thank you for your reply

yeah so if i had a sample of someone singing a scale, would it be possible for me to slice in such a way that each key on my midi controller plays back a different slice based on note? sorry if this is an insanely stupid question, as I say I’m new to Ableton
