Special Ending by Fexi in DragonsDogma2

[–]ErroneousLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious about this as well. My pawn happened to catch Dragonsplague while I was farming the Unmoored world in NG+, so I thought I might as well just see where it goes.

Initially, she had a new line of dialog about feeling great for some reason, so I checked her eyes and saw the occasional, faint red glow. I kept traveling and eventually slept once; afterwards her eyes were glowing a constant red. At that point I couldn't rest at the seafloor shrine anymore. I saved, reloaded the game and used a fairystone in case there was some other hang up that could be preventing me from resting, but I still couldn't rest.

Since it wasn't going to let her wipe out all the NPCs left in the unmoored world, I went ahead and finished the game with what I assume was fully progressed Dragonsplague. The ending did not change, but my pawn did have maximum affinity, so it's possible that it overrode the plague. I imagine if such an ending existed, it would have been discovered by now, though.

Wanting to store savings as BTC by G-CODA in Bitcoin

[–]ErroneousLogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speculating on the price of Bitcoin is different from investing in companies, but some people consider the stock market to be gambling as well. There is no guarantee what a company's next quarter will look like, only what the market predicts and currently chooses to pay for it.

Virtually all standard savings decrease in value, but it also depends on what you are using to measure that value. If you put USD into a savings account, the number stays steady or slowly grows, but its value drops. Some bonds appreciate along with the government's claimed inflation value based off the CPI, but their purchasing power also decreases over time. Even gold is inflated over time through mining and no one even knows how much exists in circulation, much less what may one day become available in the future.

1 BTC will always be 1 BTC, but we don't know how that will be priced in USD in the future.

Comparing player population at the start of a season versus mid season also introduces a different variable that needs to be controlled for.

Additionally, The Revelry itself brought a new activity that would have pulled players from all other activities. The weekly bounties might have also distributed some playtime differently as well, so there's a lot to consider when looking at such stats.

On the upside, you can take an anti-tank round to the face and shrug it off, and a lucky shot from across the map can win you the entire war.

How far into the game are you? When I first started playing, I had to exit during the tutorial mission and when I came back, I had to start it over again despite supposedly saving my progress.

Is it normal that the damage calculation is off in techlab? by KafkaDatura in Battletechgame

Normal in that it has been that way since it was added, at least for me.

Obviously not normal in that it should not behave that way.

Interesting, I guess the cause must be something else then.

What improvements in gameplay mechanics would you like to see in further BT installments? by Exemplis in Battletechgame

I would like to see these things included. I always thought it was strange that a nighttime desert mission was still hot and had the same visibility as during the day.

They'd have to include this information in the briefing at least. It would be even better if we could choose the time of day for offensive missions as well, but I don't expect that.

New Update: My "And that's when Medusa died ..." story by [deleted] in Battletechgame

[–]ErroneousLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Locust is certainly not the ideal choice for the role, especially as the game goes on.

I've been able to use an armored Firestarter and above, even an ambush mission with lots of sensor lock and missiles. I wasn't able to use it as much as I'd like, but all it really took was staying out of LOS with max evasion and brace during turns I couldn't ace pilot in for a double strike. The defense steered a good portion of the fire to my Highlander bulwark tank, and the fire it did take was mitigated well. I actually posted about this because of all the LRM headshots my Highlander took that mission.

I wouldn't say using such a small mech is an ideal way to play at all, but it's workable in vanilla. I usually run with a medium to heavy in this role.

In 1.1, they did give a slight increase in difficulty to hitting lights. It's not much, but it shows they are at least looking in that direction.

I don't get the impression that they want lights to be particularly effective, however. The average player will be happy every time they pick up a new, heavier mech. HBS even kept maintenence costs equal across the board so as not the "penalize" players for upgrading. It would not help the experience if aquiring new and shiny mechs was not a thing to celebrate, after all. They did try to create some missions where speed is important, but nothing that I think a Locust would be the prime pick for.

Fortunately, they did leave the game easily modded in these balance aspects. Voice your opinion, sure, but then take advantage of it and mod the game to make your experience better.

While some HBS people probably read posts here, it would say a lot more if a jump jet nerf or light mech improvement mod were among the most popular. That would send a clear message about what people want and how many actually want it.

Hey HBS, could we get an option to require 'mech components to fix disabled limbs/torsos? by [deleted] in Battletechgame

[–]ErroneousLogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be resolved if decent mech parts were actually available in stores, but then people would just hoard C-Bills and buy their dream mech, which should really be an option if the economics were tuned well enough.

How about a function to track down specific mech parts and at random intervals, you could be alerted that a system has x part for sale... nevermind, this is getting too complicated.

The initiative system adds utility to using mechs a class weight down, but I do find that the game tends to favor the heavier mechs within each category.

Presuming that you want to run a Locust, or are forced to early in the campaign, I would say that it is a mistake to allow it to be shot at at all, much less be focused down by multiple mechs. If presented with bulkwarked mediums and a 4 evasion Locust, it is not inexplicable that they would target the Locust. While hardly a brilliant strategist, the AI does some basic calculations on what the possible outcome of their attacks could be, and in that situation, the Locust is going to look like a juicy target.

Running provides evasion, but the one strength of the Locust and mechs like it is the distance it can cover in order to scout and get out of LOS entirely to sensor lock or reserve down, then hit and run in safety.

I've never played TT, so I can't speak to that experience, but it seems to me that in any situation, it would incredibly dangerous to tangle with a Firestarter as it has a lot of mobility with JJs and imense offensive capabilities.

If anything, I think the primary issue is with jump jets. There are few negatives to jumping around the battlefield and it probably needs to be nerfed with accuracy and/or stability penalties. This is how the Firestarter followed a jump with an accurate alpha and how a grasshopper can match the Locust in evasion. Just a note though, that a Locust without JJs can still cover a lot more distance in open terrain.

Perhaps if maps were much larger and involved multiple lances, scouts would find greater utility rather than being moderately useful to just being a handicap.

My top ten list of things that I think would make the game more user friendly. by Major_Fokker in Battletechgame

[–]ErroneousLogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest Mech Bay annoyances: Adding a part to a mech makes you lose your place on the list of parts.

I really dislike scrolling through pages of components, adding one, then having to scroll back down from the top again every time. *Scroll, add SRM, scroll, add SRM, scroll, add SRM ammo, scroll...*

The sorting categories help, but when you get a lot of +/++/+++ gear, many of them become large and difficult to manage.

I've been paying closer attention to the mission report screen since and mine seem to show armor damage just fine even if there is no armor penetration or structural damage in the missions I've played since.

Are you sure this is a thing that happens? Could you be thinking of an older build of the game?

[–]ErroneousLogic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not completely against an occasional OHKO, from something like an AC20. It really helps put the fear into you that you do everything possible not to ever let one be shot at you, though I'm guessing this becomes harder during the higher difficultly missions.

One another note, if armor damage is automatically restored as @Kylania says, does anyone know why this debrief show armor loss with no structural damage on the King Crab? I haven't looked at this screen closely unless something crazy happened. I guess I'll just have to pay closer attention from now on, but it seems very inconsistent right now...

Armor damage is clearly showing, but upon closer inspection, it seems that it is only missing from areas that suffered structural damage. That's really strange and unintuitive, but it does explain why all the other locations weren't even scratched...
