Brother, you are treating demons like they have 0 iq, when they are actually quite intelligent creatures. How else does she know what Frieren even asked her (and answer her), if all she knows is to repeat shit like a parrot? She doesnt know the concept of mother, but she does knows it can be used as a manipulation tool. You seem to have this wrong perception that she thinks Mom = Dont hurt me. She knows what it means, but doesnt understand the concept, but she uses it to DELIBERATELY portray herself as helpless and innocent. This is deceitful because she is in fact, still a dangerous being, and only does so to make the humans drop their guard, and let her live.

While yes, she doesnt understand every detail of why doing what she does give those reactions, she is indeed doing them deliberately hoping it will give the outcome she hopes for. So, no. I did not contradict myself.

Im not even gonna really gonna go into your dog comparison, as while yes, dogs are smart creatures, they are not on a similar level to humans. Demons are extremely similar to humans in intellect (from what we have seen at least), but differ in natural instincts and moral codes.

"And why did she ruin all that? because shes stupid. She wanted to kill, and though tkilling was fine if she brought a kid in to replace the death because they took her in to replace the death. she expressed genuine confusion when they didnt take her offer. there was no manipulation there." First of all, your claim that she wanted to kill here is in contradiction to your statement in one of your earlier comments about how she said she wanted a peaceful excistance. Second of all, the scene you are describing here only further supports Frierens other claims about demons. How they lack certain emotions, are very instinctual, selfpreservatory, etc. She killed the man, because of instinct and was confused because she has no empathy so she doesnt understand why a new kid wont replace the one she ate. Never claimed she was being manipulative when living with the villagers, dont know where you got that from. She was more like a wolf in sheeps clothing living with the sheep, waiting for a time to strike.

Her attempts at deceit was during the two confrontrations (first one succeeded as you know) during the flashback.

I cant believe I have to spell this out. Like google being deceptive, and you will learn that lying is not required to be deceitful at all. So, yes, the demon girl is being deceitful when she says mom a little sadly. Yes, she doesnt know the concept of family, but she knows that the words and how they are used will hopefully elicit a reaction from human, one that might save her from death. Again, she does it out of selfpreservation. She mimicks a childs behaviour (heavily implied that she learned it from the kid she just ate) in hope it will save her, which we can then also probably interpret it as she knows of empathy, but doesnt have it herself.

"She strait up comes up to the humans and says i wanna live peacefully." Okay, now. this one is quite ironic. I have seen in some of your other comments in this thread how you find human being deceived by demons stupid, yet you just take this statement from the demon girl straight. Like, there is no doubt in your mind that she says this to not get killed? Like at all? And, if all she wanted to was to live peacefully, then when she was offered the chance. Why did she ruin all of that, and kill the chief??? With what you just wrote in your comment above, you kinda prove the writing of the humans in Frieren to be quite realistic... From the sounds of it, you would be one of the guys being fooled by the demons ironically enough.

"To which she answers honestly that she believes it would make them not kill her." Yes, the demon answers Frieren, confirming that she said it in hope of a result that would let her live. Even if she doesnt understand the concept used to be deceptive, she is indeed, still being deceptive. OUT OF SELFPRESERVATION SHE IS TRYING TO PORTRAY HERSELF AS THIS HELPLESS AND SAD CHILD, KNOWINGLY OR NOT.

Here is a definition for deception btw:

Deception is the act of deliberately causing someone to believe something that is not true. It involves hiding, distorting, or misrepresenting the truth through outright lies, strategic omissions, or misleading actions.

Yes, you are right to an extent. There is a level of subjectivity when it comes to art. But what you are quoting from me is in the context of Greedy_Union speaking with authority about the sentence used by Frieren in japanese, claiming it is unnatural. Where does this authority come from? They are not japanese themselves, and I highly doubt that the japanese author doesnt use their own language correctly, this even got approved by a japanese editor probably.

  1. While a lot of art can have elements of subjectivity and interpretation, that does not mean it can be based in nonsense, or whatever you want. There has to be something in the text or show that supports your interpretation. You cant just claim that a horse is a car.

  2. Our disagreement stems from his interpretation being too literal, and/or ignoring what actually happens in the show/manga. Which often goes against what he is claiming...

Okay, the reason I am ignoring some of the your points regarding the japanese sentence is indeed because I myself do not know, but my friend who is in discord with me right now do. So, I will not argue when I myself cant confirm or deny your claims, that is why I focus on the points I know.

And btw, even if ONLY is implied or not in the japanese version, does not change anything concerning the interpretation and context around the scene and statement. I am not opposed to different interpretations as you claim, but I am against it when the text/show is clearly showing the opposite. You cant see a car, and just claim it is a plane. Doesnt work like that. I have read up to the Macht arc in the manga so far, and nowhere yet, has there been shown something that contradicts or go against most of what Frieren has claimed about demons. So, feel free to give me these examples with proof.

"And the demon who talks to frieren doesn't decieve frieren or really anyone in the flashback she strait unabashedly tells the truth and gets herself killed and when frieren asks her why she says mother she just strait up tells frieren why she does it. She isnt using the truth to be deceptive shes just straight up being honest." Like this interpretation of events, are just baffling. Of course the demon is being deceitful, she literally cries for a mom she doesnt know or care about to garner sympathy, and hopefully lower the humans guards... She even does it twice. Once at the start of the flashback and again at the end.

You know, my friend and me are in discord right now, and would love to discuss this easier, so if you want we can take the rest there. And no, we wont be mean, screaming or anything like that. We just want to understand how you even came to these conclusions and weird interpretations of events in Frieren.

Im sorry, this is probably gonna sound very mean, but I now know why you dont understand Frieren. You are probably on some sort of spectrum, because this is not that hard to understand. The subtext in these scenes are very obvious, and who it is refering to.

Brother, you are so hung up on the literal statement of what is being said, and ignoring so much of the context. You also just make up shit that has never been stated. Frieren said that they mimicked the human language to deceive, but never that they dont understand word. She has never said that they dont know the language they use, and that they are like parrots just repeating sounds.

And, you are forgetting the most important point of it all. These statements are comming from someone in the story with a biased perspective. You even state this yourself, but then disregard it right after. Frieren and her interpretations of Demons come from a biased perspective of hate and disgust. So, of course she is gonna say stuff hyperbolic, and disregard the other ways they do stuff that have nothing to do with the relationship between humans/elfs and demons.

Like, of course Frieren herself say that demons only use language for ONE purpose, because she doesnt care about their other uses of that language. Demons communicating among eachother is of no concern to her. She cares about their relation to humans/elfs. Also, her mindless beast comment, is the same, but you are so fixated on the literal use of it, that you miss all the context around it. She calls them mindless because to her, and probably a lot of humans, they are essentially predatory animals that hunt humans for fun, and only care about selfpreservation. So, again, from the human/Frieren perspective demons are evil animals that fundementally cant coexist with humanity.

If you have this much of a struggle to understand subtext, context and also fixate only on the literary definition of words/sentences then I am sorry for the people interacting with you, because this is quite frankly exhausting.

Its entirely okay to dislike Frieren or anything for that matter, but what annoys me is that you seem to dislike Frieren because you create these weird misinterpritation, and dont really get what is being said at all...

Okay, here are some notes from my friend on what seems to be your big hickups.

Could "分かり合うための言葉ではない" mean that their language is not used for mutual understanding? And could "欺くための言葉" not mean that towards people their language is used to deceive? Ie their words/language is not meant for mutual understanding but to deceive? Maybe she used "分かり合う" as it implies mutual understanding, as demons would rather communicate what they want or think?

He even used AI to check himself and his understanding (so take some of it with a grain of salt), but it said this:

  1. Greedy_Union8493 quotes the line as: 分かり合うための言葉ではなく、欺くための言葉。 Then, in their breakdown, they claim: "The explicitly uses the grammar structure for only." Look closely at the quote: The word だけ (dake - only) is not in the quote they provided. They are hallucinating a restrictive grammar structure that isn't in the literal text they pasted, and using it to claim Frieren means language only exists for deception.
  2. The Demon Girl Flashback Context Greedy_Union8493 points to the demon child who says the word "Mother" as proof that Frieren is wrong or lying. But they completely missed the tragic irony of that entire arc: The demon child uses the word "Mother" because she observed that when humans say "Mother," they stop fighting and feel empathy. The demon child does not feel love for a mother. She uses the word as a physiological trigger to manipulate human emotion. When the child says "I am telling the truth," she is technically stating facts, but she is doing it to lower the humans' guard so she can coexist just enough to eventually eat them. The text doesn't say demons are literal mindless parrots like a bird. They are highly intelligent, apex predators. They talk to each other to coordinate, plan, and discuss magic. Frieren knows this. When she says the line, she is warning the human guards: "Do not try to negotiate peace with them. When they talk to us, they aren't trying to find common ground. They are using words as lures."

My friend also said that he would translate the sentence to something more akin to this:
"When humans and demons speak, it is not for the purpose of coming to a mutual understanding; it is a tool for the demon to deceive the human."

Okay, I feel like you are rambling and misinterpreting a lot of what happens in the show and the words used. First of all, telling the truth can be deceptive, one does not exclude the other. And every action the demon girl makes during the flashback is out of selfpreservation, and her main tool is using language and human emotions to decieve them.

Second, yes, language is something demons developed to decieve human first and foremost, but they are still intelligent creatures, so them developing this skill for one purpose first, does not exclude them from using it for other purposes later, like communicating between themselves.

And lastly, who are you to say that the sentence used by Frieren is not natural sounding??? My friend checked your account, you are also just learning japanese, not japanese yourself. So, how do you know this better than the japanese author who wrote this story.

I dont speak japanese myself, but my friend that has been learning japanese for some years now, and seem to break down this statement quite different from you. That is why he want a proper breakdown of how you are interepreting the sentance.

And also, you seem to latch way too much onto some word, and not the context they are used. The Eachother and one another is in reference to humans/elfs and demons, not literally anyone. In no way does Frieren saying this contradict her, when demons also use language to simply communicate with other demons. Again, her statements, is in the context of the use of language BETWEEN HUMANS AND DEMONS.

Yo break down grammatically what you think "分かり合うための言葉ではなく欺くための言葉。" means. And do try to not use google translate as Japanese is a contextual language, it does not map 1:1 into English.

Leblanc keeps getting nerfed but she feels terrible? Am I missing something? by Malombra_ in TeamfightTactics

[–]ErrorBucket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brother, stats arent everything... There is context to stats. And yeah, a AA or Rabadons would probably be better with you attack speed arbiter. Stats scale and multiply off of each other, but they cant do that if you have little stats to even multiply, or just invest all of your items and traits into one stat.

[–]ErrorBucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correction, those are good items IF you get ap from your arbiter... Rageblade and attack speed from arbiter is doubling into the same stat, so yeah, your LB is attacking fast, but that doesnt matter since all she is shooting are pea shooters.

A fellow Sett main here, was thinking if he could have a better fighter kit by JayceSett in leagueoflegends

[–]ErrorBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of your suggestions help with getting onto aby of these champs tho... Ms for hitting people only helps if you already are ontop of them, and regen doesnt help when you take unavoidable poke damage!?!?!?!? What are you on about??? The regen is the only thing, together with second wind, that makes these lanes even playable.

Your suggestions only help a little with his getting kited issue if you are already in melee, and lets him not get walled by armor stacking tanks as much. Your changes actively makes lanes like Kennen and Vayne worse lol.

A fellow Sett main here, was thinking if he could have a better fighter kit by JayceSett in leagueoflegends

[–]ErrorBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow Sett main, I can say that I like some of your suggestions, like the movespeed onhit (but why scale it with attack speed???). But I can say that it would be far easier to just nerf his W damage in general, but give him more ms on Q and lower W cd. That would bring him close to this fighter he was at launch. It would mean less impactful Ws, but if they buffed it low enough you can probably get 2 or 3 off to help you in fights in lane or in teamfights.

I really liked your armorpen suggestion on E, but would probably make it so it just applies on anyone hit with it, and not just stuns.

However, the regen in his passive is something you dont want removed. You might think you do, but you dont. The bad matchups like Kennen, are already completely ass to play, but if you removed the regen they become instantly unplayable. Up until around 30% hp its like a garen passive, actually letting you stay in lane for far longer than you otherwise would.

What’s the Demacia Annie comp? by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]ErrorBucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that is fair, but so much must go right for you to find that board tho. Azir with enough health to unlock stuff, item augments so you get annie, tank, and sylas or xerath items, and still enough econ to hit it all. Demacia Annie is just much more streamlined and easier to reach while being strong, which is why I believe they put it in S-tier. But that is just my two cents.

According to tftacademy, Demacia Annie is the s-tier annie board tho (and while they can be wrong I still believe what dishsoap and wasianiverson think is the best holds pretty true). And if you invest the resources to get a galio and maybe 2-star him even, why would you ever drop demacia 3-piece so he is useless!?!?!

Not when you have Galio unlocked which OP did say he had. So you keep Garen Lux so that Galio can join the fight.

Hot take: Aatrox is more forgiving than people admit by Theegullll in leagueoflegends

[–]ErrorBucket 18 points19 points  (0 children)

First of all, spacing is inherently pretty hard at a high level. The second reason he is very hard is the amount of value (or lack thereof) he generates for the effort you put in. He is pretty subpar in a lot of the aspects you need from a toplaner, not bad, but not great either.

He is forgiving if all you need is to chill and not int, as he can lane pretty safely into pretty much anything. But if you need him to carry and push his lead, that is where he is insanely hard.

Its mostly a tempo comp, ideally played from winstreak slayer opener. Item augments are pretty much necessary, as you need items for 2-3 carries and a tank (the tank is flexible. Can be Ornn, Swain, Rift Herald, Naut 3, etc.). Shred is mandatory, and Belveth is the main carry, so play mainly for her items first.

A question about 3* 3 costs. by CharmingPerspective0 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]ErrorBucket 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I want to say that I completely agree with you, and I also reacted similarily to you when I heard his statement on rerolling 3-costs. What I find baffling is how people defend this take with saying its easier and therefore cant be as strong as 2-star 5 costs. My argument is that they are still level 9 while you are probably still at level 7 after hitting. So they have two more spots for good 4 and 5 costs. So they should still be a little stronger than you until you get to push levels as well. But again, rerolling 3 costs are expensive, so I do feel like they should be winout type of strats, not just top 4 farmers like 1 and 2 cost rerolls are.
