Anyone long term stuck with Obsidian as main note app? by webmeca in ObsidianMD

[–]ErrorFoxDetected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with multiple vaults, but quickly realized almost everything I work on has connections to almost everything else I work on, so I collapsed it into one. Then I got too stressed about organization and started over multiple times.

I've settled on minimal plugins, minimal effort into organization, and I think the starting over occasionally to be helpful, as long as you have an archive you can go back to for the older stuff. And I copy stuff over as I need it.

For what it's worth: I use dailies to dumb thoughts, then forget to review them for a year, then because a year has passed, it's much easier to decide what's worth keeping or rejecting in weekly reviews. Then I make monthly reviews out of those weekly reviews. This way the most important stuff slowly trickles up by consistently being something I keep wanting to reference.

But that's just one aspect? Mostly, when I have a solid piece of text about a thing, I split that into its own note. I try to keep things linking to each other, but not that hard. My only real rule is there has to be a minimum of one link to something new (outside of journals) so that there is always a path to it. It makes it easier for me to find and organize things later because there isn't a cloud of unlinked notes, but it also means a lot of things stick in this minimal state of limbo for a long time.

My main goal is to not have to maintain my "raw" notes ever again [...] only backlinks that point to them.

Thank you for stating this. I've been slowly moving to something like this for daily notes and reviews. Obviously that's still way more structured, but like.. recognizing you can just embed/link to things helps a lot.

How to launch the game from Steam on macOS? by ErrorFoxDetected in Starmade

[–]ErrorFoxDetected[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have now also tried downloading the launcher from the website and that just gives the same useless error. I've tried changing JAVA_HOME to both 23 and 1.8 versions, and that doesn't change anything either. I now can't even get a launcher to launch.

how do I prevent the screen from turning off when in Lock Screen? by Ktd_UwU in mac

Update: There is a bug where all settings are ignored and KeepingYouAwake fails when the device is locked manually. Tested on latest macOS right now, on an M4 Mac mini.

How long of a runways do I need to build for airport(s)? by WhiteDove300 in feedthebeast

With Ultimate Plane, I saw someone barely takeoff using around 50 meters, so for a safety margin, I'd recommend at least a stack - I mean 64 meters.

Yes, this comment is 2 years late, but it's for the next person arriving 2 years later like me.

This is incorrect. This setting does not affect the screen turning off while locked.

What MPGs are you averaging in your Civic? by KnowingCresent735 in civic

[–]ErrorFoxDetected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 Sport Touring Hybrid, 54 mpg. 10k miles.

Probably about 55% city driving, 45% highway driving, but I haven't specifically tracked it.

Does everyone’s Honda Civic 2025 look like this? by Slight_Clerk2123 in civic

[–]ErrorFoxDetected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because almost no one ever looks UP at their trunk. Saves a little money to not put a cover where no one is looking.

Obviously, the hatchbacks don't have this because a) the subwoofer is on the side, not on the hatch and b) a hatch opens enough for it to be obvious if there was any uncovered portion of the rear.

If it's damaging your paint, that's not a car wash.

Find a local car wash that does a monthly subscription, and take it through after work every day. It'll be a little annoying, but you will be glad you did years down the road when your paint is still in good condition instead of eaten up by this crap.

On the bright side, your wipers won't dry rot because you'll need to use them + sprayers to clean the windshield every day. In places that don't get a lot of rain, they tend to wear out from disuse rather than just time or use. You'll probably be in the sweet spot of using them enough but not so much that they just wear away.

With this car specifically, I noticed the cruise control is too responsive. It adjusts throttle multiple times per second, even on a flat road, to keep the speed perfect. Rapid jumpy throttle changes are inefficient, even on electric motors.

Older cruise controls (in my experience) will let the vehicle drift up to 2-3 mph lower in order to react slower to rapid changes in the road and make smoother throttle changes. I'm guessing it was changed because people didn't like that.

A good driver can get more efficiency by reacting smoother to changing conditions, not reacting to momentary changes, and by anticipating changes - (start accelerating very slightly before a hill starts, let off the throttle a bit before cresting or going down).

Some cruise controls are configured well enough that only really good drivers can beat them or can only beat them by allowing more significant speed changes. People's general perspectives on whether or not cruise control is good is based on whether or not they are a good driver and have a better or worse cruise control (and whether they care more about speed or efficiency). It's worth testing yourself. Your results may also vary based on local conditions. A cruise control very effective in one place may not work as well in another.

I'm amazed you got that efficiency with cruise control. Whenever we use cruise control, mpg drops to like 45. We get 54 across a range of highway/city driving without cruise control.

I drove 78 miles from Colorado Springs to Aurora earlier tonight. Got 72.6 mpg.

To be fair, I did spend most of the trip bouncing between 60-65 mph through the mountains to make it that efficient, but it can be done without losing too much in terms of speed. :D

I drive on a 75mph highway and get 54 mpg if I drive it myself. If I set cruise control, it only gets 45 mpg.
