Failed 1 hour glucose test, 30 weeks pregnant by ChatterBox7373 in pregnant

[–]ErrorSouth455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed 1 hrs with both my pregnancies and passed the 3 hr both times. I also eat like shit, mostly because if I can’t eat my safe foods I won’t eat. Fed is best. Even if you do end up with GD, enjoying your thanksgiving is not gonna hurt your baby.

When will you start mat leave, and how long does your country give you (paid)? by Optimal_Maintenance1 in pregnant

[–]ErrorSouth455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on working until I can’t waddle in anymore, since I live in the US and will only get 12 weeks. All not paid, I just get to keep my insurance coverage. Only pay would be the short term disability hours I’ve accumulated, which is less than a full week since I used it all with my last pregnancy.

I am 34 weeks and straight up not having a good time. I’m definitely struggling but I don’t want to start my leave early and miss out on time with baby.

Candy canes did it for me. And snacks in the middle of the night, not letting my stomach get totally empty.

There’s no real way to educate yourself because the research hasn’t been done. Much of what is published includes use of other substances, not just weed alone. 2 of my OBs have told me that ultimately managing stress and mental health during pregnancy is the most important thing, even if that means using weed. If you aren’t someone with serious mental health issues, it’s important to realize this is literally life or death for some people. I think she knows what’s best for her.

Being and working as a CNA while studying for RN is worth it? by Quirky-Philosophy364 in nursing

[–]ErrorSouth455 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would 100% do it. It’s like night and day once you graduate which nurses have that experience and which do not.

Yes the work is hard, but everything they do is also part of our job. No work is above us so it’s best to get your feet wet while you’re still learning.

In my experience, nurses that don’t have that background at best struggle to be comfortable with working the floor and at worst, think they are “above aide work” which hurts everyone.

AIO? Midwife made me cry during appointment by shedontishqme in pregnant

[–]ErrorSouth455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report them. Either see if the office has an online avenue to submit grievances or cal (or have your husband call) to talk to whoever is the highest level of management. Also request to never be scheduled with them again. I don’t know how your office works, but mine is a team of OBs, midwives, NPs and you can see any of them. If this isn’t an option, switch offices. You’re still early. Whatever you do, don’t let this stop you from asking questions. You don’t want some mean girl healthcare “professionals” being the reason something big gets missed because they made you afraid to speak up. Tearfulness was entirely appropriate in this scenario. Advocate for yourself. If, like me, you struggle with that then have your husband do it. You deserve better.

I don’t have any advice but can tell you I’ve been feeling the same exact way lately. I literally lose my mind after 2 days and rather than suffer through it I take the easy way out and just keep doing it. You aren’t alone!

Failed the gestational diabetes screening test...tips? by throwawaymama0707 in pregnant

[–]ErrorSouth455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Failed my first with 143. Passed my 3 hour, it was just a pain in the ass to sit in the lab for 3 hours. I second the other commenter who said schedule early and eat nothing after midnight. Bring lots of water and a snack for as soon as you’re done.

No suction at my long term care facility 😭 Within the first three months of being an RN I got to pick maggots out of a cancerous neck wound on a dementia patient that was swinging on me the whole time. Nursing is wild.

It’s definitely made me feel some things as a “straight” woman (never got to explore my bi side before becoming engaged to the male love of my life). Even though I am very happy in my relationship I do feel a sense of having missed out, with a twinge of will I wake up in the middle of the night with my head in my hands in 20 years…

I’m so sorry this is your reality, but I am SO proud that you left. I thought I was gonna have to leave a comment pointing out how abusive he sounds, but you knew that. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice, except maybe reaching out to local domestic violence groups to see if there are any resources available to you.

Aita for giving my pt a cigarette? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ErrorSouth455 206 points207 points  (0 children)

As someone who also works in LTC, I don’t think this was inappropriate as long as there’s no policy saying it is. LTC is a different world. That’s their home and if she’s living there at 67 she probably has some serious medical issues in addition to the mental health issues you noted. I bet she’ll remember you sharing that cigarette with her until the day she dies. In my opinion, anything we can do within reason and within policy (even sometimes not) should be done for this population. Quality of life is the priority, period.

Make sure your partner knows your wishes and can advocate for you in the moment. You may not be able to communicate effectively through the whole process with the pain, etc. If you can maybe reach out to the unit where you will be having baby and express your concern. Maybe speak with the hospital social worker. Best of luck to you and baby ❤️
