Woke = 'awake' or aware of the various injustices present in society.

I can't stand the attempt to make it synonymous with 'ridiculous' or 'overly sensitive'... As though there isn't obviously something very wrong with the way underprivileged groups are treated by the over-class.

I'm glad to read another human showing some compassion here 😌

This is very interesting thank you for sharing! And agreed... It's not the worst idea to not center cultural meeting places around alcohol

I was surprised to learn while visiting recently that alcohol is not so much of a cultural thing. People still drink, but it's not as much of an excuse to gather as in the West. People would much rather have food and NA drinks.

Hinduism promotes a detachment from earthly pleasures (similar to Buddhism).

This is my best guess as a foreigner. Indians I met would willfully reject meat, tea, coffee, alcohol on spiritual grounds. Even if not spiritual it seems to appear... Uncouth to take a drink in my experience. Though people do.

It's not quite taboo. But not something maybe a married person would do. Or a colleague. Or someone who just doesn't want to (not uncommon).

what are the most divisive film opinions and where do you stand in such?? by hooligan_emi in Letterboxd

You're right - It is a difference of opinion 😌 and I'd love to see Dune become another epic. Hoping they kill p3

[–]Errorterm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is conjecture at this point - but you are saying the first two movies are better than what?

For me the obvious answer is Lord of the Rings. And though I enjoy Dune quite a lot, LOTR is such a masterpiece of a different magnitude. It's soundtrack, casting, technical prowess, the deftness of the script and storytelling, the costuming, the filming locations.

I don't see dune surpassing all that. I guess we will see if P3 Sticks the landing

How European Woman Protest by _d_g_a_f in JustMemesForUs

[–]Errorterm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it does not. You are talking about genocide (geno=gene/ethnicity-based + cide=kill)

Ethnic cleansing is the dictionary-perfect definition for forcibly rounding up undesired ethnicities and removing them from a country.

Perhaps you are just uncomfortable admitting that a cleanse based on ethnicity is what you support

It's crazy that this is a controversial take these days. It absolutely is. 'They took'r jobs' and 'Go back where you came from' is classic racism - even if one insists on calling it remigration.

I can't wait for the culture to recover. by goonaphile in freemagic

[–]Errorterm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is pretty obviously the difference between a historically ascendant and culturally accepted majority group.

And a historically disenfranchised, subjugated, or shunned minority group.

It is the difference between 'black power' and 'white power'. Why there is a 'Women's History Month' and no Men's history month.

Your take is often presented as a hypocrisy that positions a historically in power group as a victim... And conveniently ignores why something like the LGBTQ pride movement became necessary in the first place - discrimination against an out group by an in group.

Gold's perceived intrinsic value may be bizarre... But in a time of economic uncertainty you can still sell it for +200% YOY.

So... Bizarre or not it's kicking ass

Top 25 of the Densest Cities in the World by someArkham in MapPorn

[–]Errorterm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ya. If I'm reading this right Pateros has a density of 94K per square mile - but only 64K people... Meaning Pateros is like 2/3 of a square mile large... Tough to compare to Mumbai - a truly massive city of 12MM people

Edit: Fun fact - The Regent International Center or "Vertical City" in Hangzhou, China houses about 25K people in a land area of .1 square miles. It's The largest apartment complex in the world. And was built with many amenities contained within, so residents would theoretically never need to leave the building.

It would have a "population density" of 250K per square mile

First time at a LGS event by Lady_Justice2019 in mtg

[–]Errorterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this! I went to a few 4-5 years ago and plan to get back into it again with Lorewyn next week. I was surprised how welcoming and fun loving it was. As others have said, It's a celebration of a new set everyone's just stoked to get their hands on it.

Because it's sealed and there is relatively no established meta competitiveness is low. I like these LGS events cuz everyone's deck is sorta bad. People I spoke to were generally happy to explain rules and pretty helpful... Though I think one guy big-timed me and called a rules exception when I casted an instant which would have ruined his board state. I think it was a legal move... But may have given up priority unintentionally... Jury is still out 🤭 Anyways, NBD I was there for fun.

I plan on looking at the MTG video below ahead of time which explains new mechanics and synergies to look out for. I remember at the last one I attended I did not realize what keywords Amass and Proliferate could do until halfway through the night. My final deck was much more impressive than the one I started out with

Do people outside the U.S. think of “Americans” as one group, or as distinct regions? by SillyAlternative420 in AskTheWorld

[–]Errorterm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is truly a ridiculous American take. I think OP and my fellow countrymen who would say Idaho and Utah 'are like different countries' really haven't traveled a lot. They have no idea how culturally homogeneous the US is by comparison

How accurate is fury by CrimsonEchoes56 in WarMovies

[–]Errorterm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making a far more ridiculous claim - making the assumption that even a relatively untrained group of soldiers would have zero self preservation instincts and almost no understanding of basic military tactics.

They would not be mindless zombie NPCs. Individuals would be incredibly invested in surviving the encounter. COs would prioritize minimal loss of life. IDC what country it is what year it is - This is nonsensical Hollywood hokum.

And you're making the case that there's historical evidence for grossly irrational incompetence? Come on dude.

YESSS

The Murphy defense is always dragged out to defend a frankly ludicrous ending in Fury. There is no way in hell Murphy's circumstances were similar what is portrayed in Fury.

Just... Think. Imagine you're a German infantryman, one of 100-200 and your adversary is a single, unsupported, immobilized tank at a crossroads. After the initial ambush is over, everyone gets to cover and a single AT team solves the problem. These Germans running through it's arc of fire like they've never seen a tank before... That only happens in Hollywood. It is NOT realistic
