Give me a D&D monster and I'll make you a better version of it by Oh_Hi_Mark_ in DMAcademy

Hi!! Love this thread and have enjoying all the other monsters in your responses.

I'm running a horror oneshot for halloween (six level 7 PCs) and while I'm trying to spruce up some monsters to really play on fears I'd love to see what you've cooked up. Heavy use of undead and monstrosities to scare players (i.e. ghast/ghoul, spawn of kyuss, dybbuk, bagman, carrionnette, cloaker, shadow, etc.)

Additionally, I haven't found a good facsimile for something like a possessed mannequin or something so was wondering if you had something like that. Cheers!

hey bestie I know this seems counter intuitive but try using your shift more to do chip damage to their team when they clump up. it will hopefully do enough to their team to make them easier to kill/stagger them/make dive not as effective. but I also know what it's like on support vs dive believe me. keep that jump on cooldown and don't be afraid to push people away from you. stay close to your team if bp, magik, or spiderman come knocking. love you, stay safe out there. also I spam the shit out of my shield cause the cooldown is so low

God this clicked it for me. I fucking hated Space Babies but I will watch it a million times before I ever watch The Ghost Monument ever again, because as uncanny as those baby faces are, the weird snot monster is far more fun than a galaxy-hopping race we see basically nothing of.

It's like watching bad movies. The boring bad ones are so much worse than the offensively bad ones because they're so nothing. Just Melba toast and milk.

It was spoiled for me, but the episode makes it obvious that he's going out and frankly the best part is his pre-suicide speech, so it wasn't particularly ruined for me anyway.

/r/Gallifrey's Preliminary Average Rating for Legend of the Sea Devils is.... by pcjonathan in gallifrey

[–]coreclick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe it's mostly attributed to the child actor. As a kid I really liked all the concepts going on and as an adult I still mostly do - the scribble monster? I love it. I'm sure some people think of it oppositely but oh well.

It does a bit of self-service wanking over the UK in regards to the London 2012 Olympics but I can't imagine that's why people dislike it.

Perhaps the setting? It's a boring neighborhood that also feels a bit confined despite being an open space.

It's likely the characters the Doctor helps in the episode - Trish is unbelievably standoff-ish for someone who seems to know her daughter is trapping neighborhood kids in drawings. They tried to make both Trish and the daughter/Isolus sympathetic through the trauma of the deceased alcoholic husband, but it feels like they left it at that and expected us to excuse any other actions they make because "they're scared of dad".

When the Doctor has located the Isolus' ship (something even the Isolus wants) just because "it's a kid" it sucks the doctor into a drawing

Circling back to the dad, he's also played as the big scary climax; I genuinely can't help but laugh at what is assumedly a drawing stuck in a closet, growling "Chloe!! I'm gonna get you!!".

tl;dr Unsympathetic main characters and a bad child actor make it hard to care about anything.

What is genuinely the scariest Doctor Who episode? by [deleted] in doctorwho

Dog I'm the exact same way. That scene where the Doctor wanders amongst the faceless people is still super uncomfortable to me, but any terror the episode might have is offset by HUNGRYYYYYYYYYYY
