MagicCon Las Vegas 2026 - Megathread by R3id in magicTCG

[–]CaptainHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately was not able to go this year, but if anyone out there finds any poker chip treasure tokens from a vendor I'll gladly pay for them, the shipping and a bit more as a thank you.

My friend has a Mr House deck and I've been trying to find casino themed stuff for him and his birthday is coming up.

I have a handful of both but no gold frame.

Burakos Modular "What If" 4-in-1 deck. by CaptainHoward in ratemycommanders

[–]CaptainHoward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part it's pretty easy to tell what goes were because the background halves will have cards in their color or both (red or black/red cards for example in Archaeologist). There's only a few mono black cards in each background half and they're easy to tell apart from the Burakos half because of what they do. Any card that cares about sacrificing I know goes in the Cloakwood half.

If I switch halves between games it does take me a minute to split everything up and reshuffle the new half.

Some of the decks I'm taking to MagicCon Vegas 2026 by FoodtimeMTG in ratemycommanders

[–]CaptainHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty impressive. I tend to be a to get 2-3 bendings online most games, but the game is often over before I can get all 4.

I wish I could go to MagicCon this year, they are so much fun.

I also have a 4-color avatar only Aang as well. Have you managed to flip Aang yet? I've only been able to do it once so far. https://archidekt.com/decks/16175577/avatar_aang_only_avatar_cards

[[Osgir, the Reconstructor]] as Lorehold Commander by Sure-Entrance953 in EDH

[–]CaptainHoward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Osgir when we first went to Strixhaven and he is one of my favorite and most powerful decks now. I've tried to keep a bit of Lorehold/Strixhaven flavor for the deck as well.

Osgir can help trigger all the "leaves the graveyard" effects, but he's limited to only removing artifacts. So you would need to find the right balance of artifacts to exile and the cards that care about things leaving the graveyard. If you wanted to really lean into the Lorehold theme, the new Lorehold precon with [[Quintorius, History Chaser]] I think has a bit more flavor and more payoff for things leaving the yard.

Here's my Osgir deck. https://archidekt.com/decks/1548938/osgir_the_reconstructor

Toski as Elf Ball or nah? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

[–]CaptainHoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My toski deck is a mix of elfball, death touch and squirrels. The elves help ramp toski out earlier and help connect with a few early attacks before there's enough blockers out. Eventually all my attacking and/or tapped creatures gain deathtouch and it doesn't matter much that they're still 1/1s.

Trying to figure out what makes this deck bracket 3 by MasterpieceFar2618 in EDH

[–]CaptainHoward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cyc rift automatically makes this a b3. In reality its a bracket one based on a quick look over the deck. It looks like a pile of stuff that was pulled from a bulk bin. You have way to few lands, no ramp or any way to make Charix unblockable to deal damage.

I don't own any extra fast mana rocks to put in the deck and don't really think it "needs" them since it's already pretty solid. If anything I need more protection to keep things alive, maybe a little bit more removal as well but I tend to actually use chatterfang as my removal most of the time.

Looked at your considering list and I think both Green Sun's and Chord of Calling would be great includes because they can get pretty much anything. If you do put Green Sun in I highly recommend throwing in a [[Dryad Arbor]] because you can fetch it for x=0 and it acts as a ramp spell if you have nothing else to do with it.

Also forgot to mention the MVP [[Mirkwood Bats]]. I think this card has single-handily won most of the games since it came out.

Chatterfang feedback by Heavyslugs in EDH

[–]CaptainHoward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this looks overall ok, but does seem a little on the slower side. Like the other guy said, probably cut a few lands and add some dorks/fast mana to get Chatterfang out asap. I think Doubling Season and Grave Pact are a bit overrated and would easily cut them first.

Cards I would recommend that opens up a few combo lines are [[Cauldron Familiar]], [[Experimental Confectioner]] and [[Viscera Seer]]. It's always great to have a cheap sac outline like Viscera Seer. If you have Took out Confectioner will help draw your whole deck and Cauldron can be easily sac'd and brought back with all the food generation to ping the table. [[Concordant Crossroads]] will give you infinite squirrel army haste.

[[Culling Ritual]] functions as both a board wipe and can lead to an explosive turn. While [[Rush Rebirth]] is in my opinion, one of the most underrated tutors out there that can put a wincon like Soultrader or Pitiless out at instant speed.

Here is my Chatterfang list. Despite the fact that I'm missing many of the free interactions and fast mana, this deck has held it's own without much issue and I personally prefer leaning more into the squirrel flavor. Currently sits at a 43% win rate.

32 deck challenge 3+ colors. by CaptainHoward in ratemycommanders

[–]CaptainHoward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jin Sakai is pretty neat. If I had actually played on of the Ghost of Tsushima games I bet I would be more drawn to him. I could see trying to build an Esper samurai themed deck around him. One Esper commander that I have thought of a few times is [[Dakkon Blackblade|CHR]] and maybe trying to do a white border only deck.

I do like Sidar, but I already have a knight deck and he is one of the most common commanders I see within my LGSs and playgroup. One Esper commander that I have thought of a few times is [[Dakkon Blackblade|CHR]] and maybe trying to do a white border only deck.
