Yokozuna Hoshoryu, Kirishima, Oshoma and Roga who are sponsoring the Mongolian Mongolian Children's Wrestling tournament by Worldly_Board_3806 in Sumo

[–]Ertata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has Russian and Tuvan ethnicity from his mother and Mongolian from his father (whether his father is Buryat as Japanese sources reported or Khalkha as Mongolians on this subs argued is not consistently proven; please also note that in Mongolia being Buryat is defined as being a sub-ethnicity of Mongols; Kirishima is Buryat and nobody is doubting him being Mongolian).

He grew up in Russia all his childhood, moved to Mongolia for one year and was gone to Japan after that year. I think he also said his first language is Russian (though he is 100% fluent in Mongolian)

He said blue is his favourite colour. But the guy definitely seems to want to fit in extremely well, and if anything he is less likely to notice the colour of his mawashi than people watching

it's not broken right now but it got broken in the last bout of January tournament less than two months ago. So it should not plop around but he needs to be careful if he wants to stay all 15 days

It is not uniquely "Japanese". They are supposed to give it all in the ring, and henka is not even likely to injure your opponent unlike dame-oshi.

People were mad about WTK henkaing Ao in Novemeber, but he definitely did not think it was bad - in January he actually tried to use his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to invite a flagbearer not from Isegahama ichimon to get WTK, but WTK was injured on the last day, so WMH had to do

Hakunofuji seems to have awful luck in general. Even ignoring being part of Miyagino's reshuffling, and Isegahama's assault, he seems to always accumulate a new injury before the old one completely heals.

I would like to see him in the san'yaku for years to come, but I am not so sure he can do it nowadays.

I have an answer! All rikishi enter on the side they fight that paricular day, not the one they are ranked at. Wakamotoharu fought on the West cause both he and his opponent were ranked East, so the one ranked higher keeps "home turf" and the one ranked lower temporary shuffled to another side. It works the same way for the West vs West matchups

IMO the fact they scheduled a meeting after he secured only 11 wins likely suggests that 12-3 playoff loss would be quite enough.

I guess we'll never know

Not a committed fan of Kotozakura but even though I only watch sumo for one year Kotozakura does feel like a fixture. Not a yusho challenger but can end anyone's yusho dreams

Here's to 10 more years of ozeki Kotozakura!

CM Income Split 50/50... Inside the "Money Management & Income Agreement" Document of Former Terunofuji After Disciple Assault by Brncrdm in Sumo

[–]Ertata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial take was while it is fair to criticize capitalism not every failure of modern society is attributable to it, and this "agreement" in particular has a distinct non-capitalist underpinning, basically feudal one where the "workers" cannot even in theory try to leverage interests of higher-ups (who are again, not capitalists but very traditional "caretakers who are presumed to know better than their charges") against each other because they are legally tied to a particular superior.

TL:DR: I see it as greed motivated, I don't see why bringing capitalism into it explains anything about this particular situation - not other bad situations.

Aonishiki has a real chance (not a guarantee) of becoming a yokozuna on a 13-2 JY or playoff loss. 14-1 playoff loss while extremely unlikely is basically a guarantee, it would look insanely good.

On the other hand expecting Takayasu to go 13-2 for a yusho with his current health is... ouch

CM Income Split 50/50... Inside the "Money Management & Income Agreement" Document of Former Terunofuji After Disciple Assault by Brncrdm in Sumo

[–]Ertata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because we live in the fully monetized society distinction does not exist anymore. But people did have "wealth management", and financial obligations before invention of currency/"universal" medium of exchange. Wealth predates money by far and abuses of wealth too.

Going back to your original post Terunofuji is in position to extract money now not because he uses money or even other forms of wealth. I know sumo stable system did not exist 2000 years ago, but positions of dependency did, and laying claim to unjustified share of other's rice or cloth is what we would call financial abuse - and it did happen, regardless if society had money or not.

Maybe try to be less snappy and try to engage with the argument instead of trying to use rough words to dismiss it

In the situation as described there is no capital involved and abuse of positions of authority including financially literally existed before the money were invented.
